Chapter 340: The Person Chased by the Black Dragon
After bidding farewell to Greed in the afternoon, Jesse brought Mojo to The Slaughtered Lamb.
In the Alchemy Room, Ursula was sitting on a chair reading a book, with jars bubbling inside by themselves. When she saw Jesse approaching, she sat up straight.
"Jesse… please don’t tell me any bad news, I’ve been feeling so stressed these days," she said with a worried expression.
"What’s wrong?" asked Jesse as he sat down.
"What else could it be?" Ursula said, "Of course I’m worried that you might have problems from eating the medicine made by goblins."
"It’s not at all like that, Ursula. You saved my life," Jesse said.
"Is it working?" Ursula asked.
"It didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped," Jesse said, "but fortunately, the end result turned out okay."
Ursula held back a laugh and then said, "So, Jesse Seso, in the end, you still had to rely on my concoction, right?"
"Of course, I met a Goblin Alchemist in Booty Bay," Jesse said, "He took one look at the invisibility potion you made and concluded that you are a very skilled Alchemist."
"Do I really need a goblin’s opinion?" Ursula said, "I specialize in potion-making, those little green creatures are all about making explosives!"
Jesse asked, "So I’m curious… where did you learn Alchemy?"
"Can’t I keep it secret?" asked Ursula, looking over this way.
"Of course you can," Jesse said. "I just asked casually, after all everyone has their own secrets."
Saying that, he took out the bottle of Mojo from his bag and said, "Look at this."
"What is this?"
"Don’t you recognize it?" Jesse shook the bottle and said, "This is Mojo, isn’t this what you asked me to find?"
Ursula took the bottle, shook it back and forth, stared for a while and said, "You’re not kidding me, are you? How can Mojo be this thick? And the color is so dark. I’ve seen Mojo before, they were like light purple liquid, a bit sticky indeed, but compared to this… this one looks like paste."
"Where did you get this from?"
Jesse cleared his throat and said, "I bought it from a Troll Witch Doctor. She said this is her best Mojo."
"Oh my," Ursula sighed lightly, shook the bottle again, reached for the cork as if to open it, but hesitated.
"I… I will need to open it when I need it, Jesse, this thing is really rare. You actually got it from a troll, I thought trolls only lived in Booty Bay as a rumor. I never expected you could actually bring back Mojo to me, especially such a powerful Mojo. Although I can’t feel the magical power in it like a mage, especially through this bottle, even so, just by looking at it, I can tell it’s extraordinary."
"I thought that troll was exaggerating on purpose," Jesse said.
He then took out the bottle of Restorative Potion and said, "And also this, Ursula, this trip was quick, so there’s still more than half left. I know this potion requires Elemental Earth, must be very precious, so I have to give it back to you."
Ursula took the potion and hugged it, saying, "You don’t need to be so frugal."
"I don’t want to owe you too much," Jesse smiled and said, "What else can I do for you? In a while, I might have to go to the north of Redridge, it might take a long time, how long exactly I’m not sure. If you need anything around Burning Steppes or Loch Modan, I can help you check it out on the way."
"I haven’t thought about it yet," Ursula said, "But, did the Alchemist in Booty Bay tell you the specific formula for that potion?"
"How could they?" Jesse said, "From what I heard from them, those goblins treat this profitable formula as their life, let alone me as an outsider, even their own kind won’t easily reveal it."
"Such a pity," Ursula said disappointedly, "A potion that can fake death, it’s really rare."
"Well, at least I remember some of the ingredients," Jesse said, "One is a mushroom from Hinterlands, the trolls call it Lukoukanipi, very difficult to gather, then there’s something called Maraglamosh Ghost Grass, and… there’s also the dew glands from a Mire Beast in the southern desert oasis of Kalimdor."
The dew glands of the Mire Beast in Tanaris Oasis were definitely brought over from memories of their past life, that’s part of the Noggenfogger Elixir quest.
Since the strange mushrooms in Hinterlands work well, the other part of the quest should be quite reliable too.
"Desert oasis… Mire Beast… Let’s see if there’s anything that can be used as a replacement." Ursula’s expression became more complicated as she listened, but she still said, "Can you tell me about the feelings you experienced after drinking that potion? All of the feelings…"
"I’ll try my best." Jesse recounted the feelings he had from drinking the potion, and Ursula tried to make notes as best as she could. After finishing, she sighed and said, "It might be difficult to reverse engineer what formula they used based on these clues alone."
"They used Ghost Mushroom before." Jesse said, "But that formula with Ghost Mushroom could cause the fainting you mentioned, and even a chance of memory loss. It wasn’t until they switched Ghost Mushroom with Hinterlands mushrooms that these two side effects were resolved."
"That’s an important clue too." Ursula nodded, saying, "I don’t expect to replicate the goblin potion here, but having some references is good."
"Are there any others?"
"For now… I don’t think so, I’ll come tell you if I remember anything else."
Ursula nodded, saying, "If you need any more potions, remember to come find me."
"Alright," Jesse said, "Do you have a reliable potion bag that can be secured? Last time I was chased by a black dragon while out, and ended up breaking many potion bottles."
"Ah," Ursula said, "I have one."
She handed a small leather bag to Jesse, smiling as she said, "This bag may be small, but it has eight slots to secure potions. Next time a black dragon chases you, they should stay safe."
"I don’t want to be chased by a dragon again," Jesse chuckled, "Thank you."
Ursula paused for a second and asked, "Are you joking? Did you really encounter a black dragon?"
"A young dragon," Jesse said, "but still troublesome."
"I’m thinking, before your next visit, eat and drink well. I want to take a little blood sample from you to see what you are," Ursula stared at Jesse’s wrist and said, "To figure you out."
Blood sample? Jesse glanced at all the strange equipment in the Alchemy Room and started recalling horrific scenes of early human surgeries he had heard about before.
He forced a smile and said, "Don’t joke around."
Ursula asked, "Are you saying you were chased by a black dragon as a joke?"
Jesse’s smile slowly faded as he swallowed nervously.
