Chapter 337: Mage’s Determination
"Once a Death Knight leaves its body, it becomes very weak," Jesse said. "They’re just spirits, even Teron Gorefiend is the same, although quite terrifying. But isn’t Vereesa… Ms. Vereesa helping? Without her, it’s impossible. Do you really think I can face the leaders of the Horde alone?"
Amy chuckled and said, "You say she defeated you, she says you defeated her. Are you two not getting along?"
"She’s modest," Jesse said. "With her power, she can easily take down three or four Ogres in the blink of an eye. Just imagine, Amy. Those Ogres are over three meters tall monsters. Any of them could knock me out with a single punch."
"I don’t believe it."
"You don’t believe she can kill Ogres?"
"I don’t believe you’re as bad as you say," Amy said with a smile.
Jesse picked up a piece of wolf ribs, stripped off some meat, and chewed on it, saying, "Then I’m out of luck."
Amy scooped up some pumpkin meat with a spoon and said, "Do you think I don’t know? Master Andromath, who is usually strict, is willing to promote you to a full-fledged mage in two years, Jesse. You will be the first young person to become a full-fledged mage shortly after turning twenty."
Jesse shook his head and said, "According to him, we still have to take the exam, Amy. You know how difficult it is to become an official mage. He is just giving me a chance, who knows what will happen in two years."
"Are you saying all this to take care of my feelings?" Amy raised an eyebrow and said, "Everyone knows what’s going on, Jesse."
"Of course not, but it’s still uncertain. It’s too early to say now," Jesse said.
The sommelier brought the grilled fish to the table, the crispy scales sizzling. Jesse noticed Amy drinking wine non-stop, staring at the fish in front of her, her smile fading slowly.
She seemed to be preoccupied with something.
"What’s wrong?" Jesse said. "You seem worried about something."
Amy seemed taken aback by the question, blinked and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Well, I’m making a very important decision these days, Jesse. I feel like I need your advice, or maybe encouragement."
"Tell me about it?"
"I… want to apply to go to Nethergarde."
"Nethergarde?" Jesse asked in surprise. "Are you planning to join the expedition army?"
"Expedition army? Of course not, I’m just a beginner mage," Amy softly shook her head. "They definitely won’t let me go through the Dark Portal, so at most I will just support the frontline battles in Nethergarde with my skills."
Jesse nodded as he took the wine offered by the sommelier and took a sip. "Why the sudden decision?" he asked.
"I need some solid experiences that can help me become an official mage, Jesse," Amy said with her head down. "Just studying and being a teaching assistant… who knows when I’ll finish. I’m getting closer to thirty, I can’t continue like this. Of course, it’s not because I envy you or anything, you are a strong motivation for me."
Hearing this, Jesse was unsure of what to say.
The cold and bitter wine swirled in his mouth, his mind filled with thoughts of the chaotic and dark future that had not yet happened.
The current Warchief of the Horde, Ner’zhul, used three Sacred Tools to cast a powerful teleportation spell, directly tearing apart the entire Draenor. In order to prevent the destructive energy of Draenor from affecting Azeroth, the expedition army had to destroy the Dark Portal, completely cutting off the two worlds…
"Master Malin must know some general situation about the Dark Portal, maybe he chose not to tell you because he doesn’t want you to go to Nethergarde?"
"His thoughts can’t influence my decision," Amy asked with a straight face. "Are you also going to advise me like that old man to stay here?"
"No," said Jesse. "I know you don’t want to stay in the Mage Quarter, just a reminder."
"I knew you would understand me," the female mage smiled. "Unfortunately, if I go, I might not be able to return to Stormwind for a long time."
Jesse nodded, took a sip of wine and said, "At least you can be further away from the mages bothering you."
Amy chuckled, "That guy, what does he think…"
"When do you plan to apply to Master Andromath?" Jesse asked.
"Since I’ve made up my mind, let’s do it tomorrow," Amy said. "I don’t know if I can pass the application, not every apprentice mage is allowed to go support Nethergarde, maybe in the end, it will all be for nothing."
"Then I wish you good luck," Jesse raised his glass.
They clinked glasses, Amy drank several sips in one go, even Jesse couldn’t help but glance at her.
After spending over half a year with Amy, he had started to see her as family. He couldn’t help worrying about the unknown situation at the Dark Portal and Nethergarde.
Amy noticed that Jesse looked upset, and jokingly asked, "Are you going to miss me when I leave?"
"Since it’s your wish, I definitely support you going," Jesse said.
The female mage nodded, took another sip, closed her eyes, swallowed, and said, "I think I’ll miss you when I go to the Dark Swamp."
Jesse wiped away the drink from his mouth and said, "Maybe I’ll go to Nethergarde too, Amy. Then we won’t have to worry about missing each other."
"You’re going too?" Amy asked. "Even if you don’t go, you can still become an official mage. Why take the risk?"
"After the Dark Portal appeared, everything else seems less important. Not that solving the problems with Gnolls or Murlocs, bandits, is not important, but compared to standing at the Dark Portal in the south… Perhaps it’s because I’m not a king, that’s why I think this way," Jesse said loudly after finishing his drink. "I’ll have another glass, a glass of mead!"
Even a black dragon is closely related to the other side of the Dark Portal, he thought.
After hearing the sommelier’s answer, Jesse continued, "Even if you don’t say you want to go, I feel like one day I will go to that place."
He took the offered mead, took a sip, raised his finger, and continuously drew circles in the air, saying, "The Dark Portal is like a vortex. Every time I look over there, I feel like that place is slowly pulling me towards it."
After hearing that, Amy smiled happily and nodded continuously.
She stared at Jesse for a while, and Jesse touched his face and asked, "Am I drunk?"
"No," Amy said with a blushing face, "I just suddenly felt that Jesse, Teron Gorefiend should die at your hands."
