Chapter 330: The Witch Doctor’s Home
The cave where the troll lived had a strong urine smell, but Jesse was now used to such smells, having experienced many things in life.
Inside the cave were various shells, trinkets, and dolls hanging on the earthen walls, which started to seem eerie after a while.
Considering that this hunter was probably not skilled in witchcraft, one had to wonder about her mental state.
As for coins, Jesse did not find a single one, except for two square Gurubashi coins, which, as the jewelry merchant had mentioned earlier, were no longer usable as currency.
However, since the mask was already damaged, Jesse decided to take both of these coins following a "take what you can get" approach.
At this point, he was starting to feel disappointed, with only the trash-like corner of the cave remaining.
This seemed to be where the troll slept, as Jesse uncovered dirty blankets and foul-smelling clutter, only to stumble upon a gold tooth.
This golden tooth is very pretty and sharp, about the size of a large dog’s tooth.
Why is this troll keeping this tooth? Is it waiting to replace its own tooth?
Anyway, this trip wasn’t in vain.
"Saenor," he said. "Help me find a purple liquid stored in a bottle, in this cave, and around the cave… See if this hunter has any similar items in his collection. Trolls use that kind of liquid for witchcraft rituals, it must be magical."
The imp stood on Jesse’s shoulder and said, "Master, I doubt we can find the liquid you mentioned here! I hardly sense any magical presence here, except for the eerie life lingering throughout the forest… Let’s leave quickly!"
Jesse also felt something similar, the hunter seems to be merely hiding here, there are no magical items or valuables in the cave.
This made him even more curious about the purpose of the mask, it simply looks like a wooden object.
After searching around the cave with no results, they rested by the seaside for a night and returned to the Troll Witch Doctor in the afternoon the next day.
Holding the broken mask in his hand, Jesse felt that the troll might be getting angry.
Since the quality is poor, I don’t think it’s very valuable.
He took a piece and hit the door, saying, "I have your things, Silvia."
After a while, the small window was opened again, with a skeleton mask on the door.
"That hunter isn’t too difficult to deal with." Jesse handed the larger mask to the window and said, "But the mask is broken."
Silvia suddenly opened the door and mumbled something in troll language, which Jesse couldn’t understand, but he knew it wasn’t something good.
She snatched the half mask from Jesse’s hand, looked at another one, trembled for a while, asked something in troll language, then realized the human in front of her couldn’t understand and said in a common language, "What about that troll, did you kill her?"
"No," Jesse said. "You said I would kill her if she didn’t give it to me, now she has, why should I kill her?"
"But my things got damaged!" the troll yelled.
"At least I brought them back," Jesse said.
The troll tried to shut the door, but Jesse grabbed it and asked, "Do you want to be difficult?"
"I need to go in to get something for you, so get your coins ready!" the troll said, pulling hard on the door, but it didn’t budge much.
She looked at Jesse in surprise, showing her sharp teeth, and said, "Let go, savage!"
"I want to go in too," Jesse said. "I don’t want you to lock the door behind you and refuse to pay. I might have to use magic to blast your door open."
Silvia stared at Jesse for a while, then released her grip and said, "Forget it. I warn you, don’t touch any materials."
She led Jesse inside, and Jesse noticed that the witch doctor had long red hair tied back with cords from her mask.
She was about the same height as herself, wearing a dark red robe. Even though she claimed she wasn’t good at close combat, Jesse could still see the muscular outline of her body from behind.
Although the troll’s arms were oddly long, her body was somewhat normal, but any sense of beauty that a human could appreciate was ruined by her big, flat feet.
Even though the troll’s feet with two thick toes in front helped her move quickly and climb trees easily in the forest’s tricky terrain, they were so large that she walked a bit awkwardly, giving her a strange kind of beauty.
Inside the cave was much cleaner than expected, even though it was dug out. The walls and ceiling were very smooth, supported by columns that made it look stable.
This place must have existed before the troll arrived; she just repurposed it.
The witch doctor arranged various materials in several cabinets, neatly placing unidentified animal paws, eyeballs of unknown creatures, scales, and some dried animal specimens.
Of course, there were several shrunken skulls with eyes and lips sewn shut, missing their skulls and eyeballs.
At first glance, these items didn’t seem to be materials for alchemy or witchcraft, but more like some kind of exhibition.
Silvia carefully placed the mask into a box and then entered the room. Jesse, feeling suffocated, took off his cloak, leaned against the wall away from those items, and sighed deeply while sitting on a nearby recliner woven with vines.
He rolled up his pant leg to check the bug bite, relieved to see it had almost healed.
Lucky for him, it wasn’t a venomous bug.
However, after trekking through the rainforest, he couldn’t relax. He took off his boots to inspect his feet, carefully checked other parts of his body for more bug bites, ensured there were no blisters or sores, before finally feeling relieved.
At that moment, a troll came out and looked at his leg, handing over a sack and saying, "Mushrooms, take them."
Jesse took the mushrooms and took out a gold coin from the elf cloth bag to give to the troll.
"What is that mask for?"
Silvia stared at the box containing the mask and said, "It has been damaged, lost its magic, so now it’s just a piece of trash, with no meaning except for some memories, human."
"Sorry, I was just curious," Jesse said. "I have some other things I want to ask about, it’s about Mojo."
"Hmph, about Mojo," the troll nodded and said, "Every curious guest who is full of knowledge, when meeting a troll they can talk to, the first thing they want to ask is about Mojo."
"What exactly is Mojo, is it the troll’s blood? Or something else?" Jesse asked.
"That’s a difficult question to answer," Silvia chuckled and said, "Just buy a bottle and research it yourself, I don’t want to discuss this with a human."
"Do you have Mojo?"
"Of course I do, and it’s the best quality."
"How much?"
"One bottle for 80 silver coins," Silvia said, holding up two fingers. "For a bottle this size, you won’t find better Mojo in Booty Bay."
