Chapter 327: Lukoukanipi
Do you want to go meet a Forest Troll?
If we talk about Gurubashi jungle trolls, at least there are some peaceful ones like the Darkspear tribe, who are not as aggressive as the exiles.
But the northern Forest Trolls are the true trolls, encompassing almost all frightening rumors about trolls, such as cannibalism, hunting for heads, skinning, dark magic, worship of evil gods, foul rituals…
However, since this Forest Troll can have a place in Booty Bay, it means she is relatively well-behaved. If Miserheld has known her for so long, it indicates she has also somewhat integrated over the years.
Following the goblin’s directions, Jesse walked along the narrow streets, gradually moving away from the coast, reaching a hill surrounded by palm trees.
The buildings here became increasingly dilapidated. Although you could still see traces of human architecture, they had been patched up and customized by subsequent residents, each with their own style, almost deviating from human architectural norms.
"A broken palm tree leaned on a slope with a dwelling below."
Jesse remembered the goblin’s words as he saw a broken palm tree leaning on a slope with a creepy cave entrance below it, allowing a person to stoop inside.
Jesse walked towards the cave entrance covered by rotten leaves, pushed aside the eerie tree roots hanging down like white hairs, and walked deeper until he was suddenly blocked by a wooden door with a small window for peering through.
This was indeed a "dwelling".
Jesse raised his hand and knocked on the door, asking, "Is anyone there? Excuse me, is anyone there?"
Hearing no response, he glanced outside and noticed the sunlight was starting to fade. Had the troll gone out and not returned yet?
Just as he was considering whether to leave and come back at night, the door behind him creaked suddenly.
Jesse turned around to see a square hole open in the door, revealing a skull mask. He instinctively grabbed his magic wand, ready to cast the Scorch Curse spell.
He took a step closer and realized it wasn’t a real skull head but a wooden troll mask.
As an experienced player, Jesse shouldn’t have been surprised, because many troll priests in the game wear these masks, but this eerie cave really set the mood perfectly.
"A human? What do you want to buy?" The person behind the mask spoke with a hoarse voice like an old lady, and through the eye holes of the mask, Jesse could see their pale yellow cat-like eyes and light green skin.
"Speak, I don’t have time to play with you."
"I want to buy a special purple mushroom from the Hinterlands, the kind that only grows underwater, the one that Vilebranch’s lady…"
"I am not Vilebranch," the troll said coldly. "I am Silvia now. Are you talking about the Lukoukanipi mushroom?"
"I’m not sure." Jesse carefully recalled the details of the mission in the game. He remembered that initially this kind of mushroom was added by a chef as a seasoning, so he said, "It seems like this thing can make food taste better…"
Hearing Jesse’s words, the troll laughed and said, "Of course it will taste better. Lukoukanipi is a very powerful hallucinogenic fungus. If you eat it and wish for the food in your mouth to taste good, it will taste delicious as you desire."
"So," Jesse said, "Do you have that kind of mushroom here?"
"Of course!"
"How much money."
"Three gold coins each."
"Why is it so expensive?"
"You can go to Hinterlands yourself, human." Silvia said, "I could even tell you directly where to find that kind of mushroom more easily, but I can also warn you in advance about your fate, which is having your scalp peeled off and hung on a wooden wall as a trophy at the Vilebranch hunter’s residence. Because if you are capable of finding that kind of mushroom, three gold coins will not be an unacceptable price for you…"
Considering that Miserheld might try this recipe, Jesse definitely could not just buy one, if he bought two or even three, the price would be a bit outrageous.
Although he had come to Booty Bay with the intention of spending 10 gold coins, this preparation was for buying a potion, drinking it, and everything would be fine.
The situation now was slightly more troublesome than expected when departing from Stormwind, spending 9 gold coins just on buying a few ingredients did not align with the original expectations.
So Jesse leaned against the door and asked, "Is there anything else we can exchange with? Like any tasks you need help with?"
"A job worth three gold coins?" Silvia chuckled a few times, her voice sounding like a cough, "Even in Booty Bay, money isn’t that easy to come by, young man."
"Tiger teeth, Raptor feathers, Basilisk eyes, gorilla tendons…" Jesse said, "Whatever you want, I can try to help you get."
Silvia stayed quiet for a while and asked, "Are you an Alchemist, a Herbalist, or a hired hunter?"
"I can be all of them," Jesse replied. "If you need, I can even be a mage."
He cast a Light Spell to brighten the dark cave, then casually tossed it aside, approaching the window saying, "So, do you have a suitable job now, Miss Silvia?"
The troll rasped, "First tell me, have you dealt with any tough opponents before?"
"A Death Knight," Jesse said. "I once killed a Death Knight without any weapons, using his own black dagger to pierce his eye socket. He crumbled like mud, his soul unable to escape."
Silvia’s eyes shifted, "Hmm, seems I underestimated you. Your young eyes deceived my judgment."
"Since you’re so skilled, I do have a job for you. If you succeed, I’ll waive off two gold coins and sell you a mushroom at a discount."
Two gold coins, the troll’s offer seemed fair, especially considering the cost and danger of going back to Hinterlands, not to mention travel expenses.
"Let’s see." said Jesse.
"I had something taken by a jungle troll," Silvia said. "It might not be very valuable, but it means a lot to me, a mask."
"I used to be friends with that troll, but not anymore. She’s a hunter, living in a cave by the sea outside Booty Bay. She knows I can’t go out to find her… I’m not a skilled fighter."
"How far?" Jesse asked.
The troll said, "From the entrance to Stranglethorn, follow the road through the valley to the east. It will take about half a day to reach the beach. Watch out for the panthers, humans inside, but I don’t think you should fear those common beasts. Once you’re out of the rainforest, follow the beach north… In just a few hours, you’ll see a narrow path leading to the jungle shade. The cave is inside, not far from the coast."
"Got it, does the troll live alone?" Jesse asked.
"Yes, I’m sure she lives alone," Silvia chuckled, then said coldly, "Because no one would want to be with that ugly, stupid, arrogant b*tch, except for me, the kind-hearted fool who pities her."
She grew angrier as she spoke, eventually turning into a teeth-gritting rebuke.
"What does she look like?" Jesse asked.
"She had light blue skin, two metal rings on her nose, messy yellow hair, very tall, short teeth with only a little bit showing through her lips."
"Then tell me about the features of that mask."
"The mask is blue, eyes closed tightly, a very long nose, like a male troll." Silvia said, "If you find it, you’ll recognize it right away."
"Blue, eyes shut, long nose, got it," Jesse nodded.
"If she won’t give up the mask, or if you can’t find where the mask is, then kill her," Silvia said, "Remember to bring back her head, I’ll make her spill everything."
