Chapter 325: The Harpy Relics
Sheryniasia, Jesse had never heard this name in the game before.
However, he knew that harpies did indeed once rule a significant area in Kalimdor in ancient times. It was said that they were descendants of the wilderness goddess Avina and were also ancient magical creatures.
To become a leader among the harpies, one not only needed to kill enough enemies to earn respect but also to kill enough of their own kind to inspire fear. Therefore, a harpy leader’s strength was a crucial factor.
In the game world, the harpies’ power had diminished over time because in the future, Thrall led the Orcs and Trolls to Kalimdor. They united with the Tauren to launch a series of campaigns against the harpies in The Barrens and Durotar, ultimately bringing these vast wildlands under the Horde’s control.
Since then, the harpies had been in decline and could no longer compete with the Orcs and Tauren for dominance over The Barrens and Stonetalon, but this didn’t mean that ancient harpy artifacts wouldn’t still pose a threat.
"How much does this sell for?" Jesse asked.
"I can’t sell it to you right now. You’ll have to wait for the next month’s auction. The starting price will be 120 gold coins, with a deposit of 17 gold coins."
"Is the starting price really that high? I’m not sure how much of a boost this weapon can give to spellcasting." Jesse asked, "Between the legendary Sherynia’s Shadow and the blue dragon’s Azuresong Mageblade, which one is more powerful?"
"You know about the Azuresong Mageblade? Seems like your knowledge of this weapon is limited to just the name." The goblin chuckled and said, "First of all, the Azuresong Mageblade is not a dagger, it’s a magical sword. Also, it’s not with the blue dragon anymore, it was sent to the elves in Quel’Thalas a long time ago. Elves would never sell that sword to us. It’s said that a member of the Council of Tirisfal tried to purchase this legendary artifact from General Windrunner for several gold coins a long time ago, but it didn’t happen. I guess it’s because the elves aren’t interested in metal without magical powers."
"Of course, I’m not saying that this sword could still be sold for that exaggerated price now. That’s just a nearly forgotten legend, especially since the Council of Tirisfal has disappeared. But, at least it shows that this is not something that can be discussed here, young mage. Don’t expect such a treasure to be sold here. And if that sword were to appear here, this town would have been overrun by wizards and collectors long ago."
Hearing this, Jesse realized he was lucky to have the crude scabbard sewn by the leatherworker because he couldn’t leave the sword unattended in Stormwind.
Although Malin and her daughter promised to keep this matter a secret, he trusted their character, yet he couldn’t leave the city without the sword.
Vereesa is really generous indeed… Maybe it’s true as the goblin said, that elves don’t like to measure the value of such items with coins.
But there’s no shortage of people in this world willing to measure everything’s value in gold coins, not to mention thousands of gold coins… Just a few months ago, he would have fought fiercely in the cabin for just a few silver coins.
Right from the start, Jesse knew clearly that this sword cannot be shown easily or used casually.
It can greatly increase its fighting power, but you also need to work hard to improve your strength to a level where you can protect the sword well. This may be what people call "level of requirement".
However, Jesse still remembers when he took out the Azuresong Mageblade from the silk, Malin only felt its power when the sword blade was exposed, so as long as he keeps it well, the sword itself should not attract any extra attention.
Moreover, the goblin merchants in front did not notice anything.
"So, are you interested?" the goblin asked eagerly, "in that dagger?"
"I am a little interested," Jesse said, "I will come to see it next month."
"That’s good then, the trading post always welcomes you mages to visit again!" the goblin said, "By the way, human, when it comes to Noggenfogger Elixir, go check out that specialty shop over there in Gadgetzan, it belongs to Geno and Kade at Steamwheedle Port. You might find some information there."
Saying that, the goblin pointed towards a shop with a bunch of withered palm leaves hanging high up. Jesse saw from afar that the shop seemed to have a wall made of earth-colored bricks, looking very unique among a pile of wooden and stone houses.
After bidding farewell to the goblin at the trading post, Jesse climbed up the stairs to the second level street and arrived at the side of this store, seeing the unnecessarily long sign hanging – the honest Geno and Kade’s Gadgetzan Specialty Goods Trading Center.
With all the different languages, this sign looked like some kind of notice or announcement.
Jesse looked inside and asked, "Is anyone there? Is Mr. Geno Zekard here?"
"Madam!" a female goblin turned around and asked, "Didn’t anyone tell you that Geno Zekard’s shopkeeper is a woman?!"
"I’m sorry, Madam," Jesse said.
"I should have changed the name of the shop a long time ago. After all, my useless husband is practically as good as dead." The female goblin, wearing a silk robe, looked a little taller than the average goblin and didn’t walk as unsteadily.
"What do you want, human? Do you know what we sell here?"
"Noggenfogger Elixir," Jesse cut to the chase.
"Unfortunately, the last bottle was sold last year." the goblin said. "But I’m very familiar with Noggenfogger himself, very familiar! I know he’s been seeking a more interesting formula for his elixirs, so there hasn’t been any new product for a while. Now he’s keeping an eye on Gadgetzan’s mayor, which earns much more than making these strange potions. But I think he’s not in it for the money, just for the love of it. By the way, why don’t you check out the trade depot below? Maybe they still have some stock from a few years ago."
"I came from there, Madam," Jesse said. "They sent me to find you."
"Well, I can’t help you then," the goblin shopkeeper said, looking around and added, "By the way, do you know Alchemist Bucks Miserheld?"
"Who’s that?" Jesse asked, "I don’t know many goblins."
"He lives in Booty Bay, at the very top of the building on the west side. I know he’s good friends with Noggenfogger and they say he was involved in developing those potions, humans," the goblin said, "You can go ask him."
"Thank you, miss," Jesse said.
"You’re welcome, young man," the goblin shopkeeper looked at him sideways and said, "If you need any information about Gadgetzan or Steamwheedle Port, you can ask me! I know a lot of important people and I won’t be stingy like those poor folks down there! I charge two copper coins for every word that comes out of my mouth!"
