Chapter 324: Trading Post
It was only when they truly entered the corners of Booty Bay that they realized finding a place to stay for the night in such a complex town was not difficult.
With the protection of two demons, he felt that he could remove the word "barely" from his thoughts.
In the depths of the town were abandoned shacks everywhere, with some even occupied by people. After casually searching for half an hour, Jesse found a place that wasn’t particularly dirty or smelly. Sitting under the shelter, sleepiness quickly took over.
For Jesse, this place was definitely not the worst he had ever stayed in.
When Jesse woke up in the morning, the whole Booty Bay was already bustling. Everywhere he looked, he could see sails of all colors swaying back and forth in the bay.
Jesse remembered that in the game, if he kept walking down from the inn, he would reach the direction of the neutral auction house and the bank.
Looking down from here, it was still a chaotic area where he couldn’t see clearly the functions. However, it was much busier than the other side of the dock, so it seemed to be a marketplace indeed.
There were many goblins here, everywhere was filled with noisy chatter. Many shops and stalls were built using planks, similar to the strange walls and floors in The Salty Sailor Tavern before, which seemed to be made from materials of abandoned ships.
Approaching a small stall almost hanging on the side of the street, Jesse looked at the messy Gurubashi coins and troll voodoo dolls on the stall and asked a fat goblin inside, "Hello, sir, I want to know if there’s a place in Booty Bay that sells potions?"
The goblin squinted and replied in broken common language, "Go see for yourself up ahead."
Jesse picked up a rectangular copper coin carved with a sharp-toothed face and asked, "How much is this Gurubashi coin?"
The goblin looked at him and asked, "Do you understand this?"
"There are many in the troll ruins in Stranglethorn," Jesse said, "They are ancient coins abandoned by the jungle trolls."
"It’s not abandoned, kid," the chubby goblin sat up and said, "It just has a different use now. You can take these two silver coins and make a little necklace out of them! You can’t find these anywhere outside of Booty Bay!"
"But Darkshire has them," Jesse said, "But I still think the goods from Booty Bay are genuine, right?"
"Of course!" the goblin said with a smile.
Jesse placed down two silver coins and put the Gurubashi coin that the goblin boss handed him into his bag.
"Young lad, are you a new antique dealer or an alchemy apprentice?" the goblin licked his lips, picked up a white coin shaped like a skull in his hand, and smiled, "There are plenty of alchemists in town – goblins, humans… I even heard there’s a Troll Witch Doctor from the north. What kind of medicine are you looking for, to cure illness, save lives, or just have some fun?"
Jesse said, "I want the kind of potions that are brought from Kalimdor, like the special ones made by Centaur or Tauren, or maybe your goblin’s secret recipe."
The goblin cleared his throat and said, "Since you seem to know your stuff, go straight down this road, young man. You’ll soon see that Tauren and their employer, the trading post manager Razlovis, all the rare items from Kalimdor are sold by him."
When Jesse heard about the trading post, he felt a bit nervous.
He had heard many rumors related to Booty Bay’s auction house before, with each item selling for tens, even hundreds, or even several hundred gold coins.
Ursula didn’t say how much the Noggenfogger Elixir cost, but no one knew the highest price for a potion that could protect you from a deadly curse.
"Have you heard of the Noggenfogger Elixir, boss?" Jesse casually asked, "I heard this potion from Kalimdor can make people pretend to be dead, is it true or fake?"
The boss shook his head and said, "Noggenfogger? The one from Gadgetzan? He seems to be an Alchemist, but I don’t know much about him."
Jesse thanked the boss, followed the direction the boss pointed, walked past groups of street vendors and shops, and finally reached the trading post at the end, amidst a strong smell of salted fish.
Goblin sentries were everywhere, guarding crates of goods piled up on a special dock and a tall stone vault. From far away, he saw a tall Tauren with brown fur, wearing a cage-like helmet or some kind of special "face protector," sitting there. Beside him, a goblin with a fancy headscarf was arguing with a High Elf below a chest.
"You can’t go in!" a Goblin Sentry stopped Jesse as he tried to move forward, waving a harpoon in hand, saying, "Back off, mage, no casting spells here!"
"I’m here to buy things," Jesse explained.
"Don’t be rude to our guest, sir, but there’s no auction today, what do you want to buy?" a goblin next to the guard asked.
Jesse glanced at him, the goblin was dressed in a dark purple ornate coat, looking quite wealthy, probably an assistant to the auction house manager or something.
"I want to buy some medicine, medicine from Kalimdor," Jesse said.
"Ah… another person wanting to buy Night Elf’s magical medicine," the goblin nodded and said, "You should talk to those short elves from Quel’Thalas, they also want to buy that dream elixir, but they have to wait until the next auction."
"It’s not the dream elixir," Jesse said, "it’s a potion called Noggenfogger Elixir."
"The special potion from the wealthy Noggenfogger in Gadgetzan," the goblin raised his head and asked, "You mean the one that can keep changing a person between life and death?"
"Yes, that’s the one," Jesse said.
"Why do you want to buy that, well, just curious, it’s none of my business," the goblin chuckled and said, "Honestly, it’s been a while since we sold that kind of potion before the Orc visited Azeroth, we haven’t heard any news about Gadgetzan having stock to sell. I know that the Noggenfogger doesn’t even trust the effects of that potion completely, he has been planning to update the formula to create a new generation of products, maybe he encountered some problems in selecting the ingredients."
"You’re an Alchemist? But also a mage, right? Or a warlock?" the goblin asked.
"Mage," Jesse said.
The goblin nodded and said, "Before you leave, don’t you want to see if you have anything good to sell? Our boss loves young mages, they always have some strange things on them, and they usually need money."
He glanced at a few elves standing together in the distance and said, "Do you see them? Those are our big customers. Sometimes trolls offer crazy prices to buy magical items. After all, Gurubashi is the richest place. What do you think?"
"How much do you think I can sell this necklace for?" Jesse took out a Naga pearl necklace from his wrist. The goblin held it in his hand, glanced at the pearls, and said, "Probably forty to sixty silver coins. I’m no expert in jewelry appraisal, but I know this is Naga stuff. Looks harmless, but Naga things are always peculiar. It might be expensive, but not too much, kid."
It was almost the same value as what the grocery merchant in Stormwind estimated, but Jesse had sentimental attachment to this necklace since he always wore it. He couldn’t bear to sell it for just a few dozen silver coins.
After all, this was the loot left behind by the first magical creature he had slain alone. Every time he saw it, he remembered how absurd that night was.
"I’ll think about it. How much can I get for this hat?" Jesse took off his red beret and asked.
"Is this an Orc hat? Or something else?" The goblin flipped through it and said, "It has some magic, but not much. Those elves might not be interested. But if you’re sure about selling it, how about 14 silver coins?"
"I’ll keep it on." Jesse said as he put it away, then he handed the fire magic wand from the Wyrmkin on his back to the goblin and asked, "What about this one?"
"Ah… a magic wand with a flame stone on it. Average quality, but someone will still want it. It can go for a gold coin. The wand itself is well-made. Where did you get it from?"
"That’s the Wyrmkin’s magic wand. I want two gold coins for it," Jesse said.
"The magic wand of the Wyrmkin?" the goblin hesitated, sniffed the wand, and said, "It does smell like black dragon fire. Please wait a moment."
Carrying the magic wand, he walked to another goblin nearby, handed over the wand, they discussed, then the goblin returned and said, "One gold coin and 80 silver coins, how about that? It looks like something a black Wyrmkin has used before."
"Two gold coins," Jesse said.
"Oh, you tricky fellow," the goblin said, "Fine, two gold coins it is."
The goblin wrote a detailed receipt on a piece of paper, handed Jesse two Gurubashi gold coins, and gave the magic wand to the goblin behind.
"That’s settled then. Anything else to offer? I knew you had something else."
"Nope," Jesse said. "Do you have any good items for mages? Like small magical tools or artifacts…"
"I have a Frostbite Dagger made from the icy waters of Winterspring," the goblin said. "Using this dagger to cast ice magic can enhance its power significantly, perfect for human mages like you. It’s short and discreet, allowing you to surprise your enemies with powerful magic attacks!"
"It was previously auctioned for 12 gold coins. If you want it, I can sell it to you for 7 gold coins, mage."
"Just focusing on improving ice magic isn’t enough," said Jesse.
The goblin nodded and said, "Since that’s the case, there is a very powerful dagger known as the Shadow of Sherynia, used by the ancient legendary harpy witch queen Sheryniasia. With this powerful weapon, she helped her daughters rule a region larger than the entire Stranglethorn for decades!"
