Chapter 308: The Girl From Silverlight Lake
In March, the streets of Elwynn Forest and Stormwind were once again dappled with light green. Jesse finally felt a hint of warmth in the breeze coming from the sea.
Looking at the ship named "Ronald’s Blue Parrot" in the harbor, Jesse adjusted his collar and asked, "Is that the boat you’re taking to Menethil Harbor?"
"Yes," Vereesa replied, lifting the brim of her hat and turning around. "So, it’s time to say goodbye, Jesse."
Jesse nodded and said, "Well then, have a safe journey… Oh, by the way, how are you going to pay me for the items you sold?"
Vereesa smiled and said, "I will have Magus send it to you through teleportation magic, to the address of your apartment, including the item I promised."
Jesse responded, "That works, but you’ve been tight-lipped about your return journey all this time, can’t you give me a hint now?"
"This item is definitely more precious than the Sunblade, and as a mage, you will surely like it," Vereesa explained. "I don’t want to reveal it now because technically, it’s not mine to speak of yet."
"But I will get it, don’t worry."
Jesse’s mind was swirling with various lists related to High Elves and Blood Elves, and he couldn’t think of any reliable possibilities.
However, since Vereesa seemed confident, he was looking forward to it. A Windrunner wouldn’t deceive him, right?
"Then I’ll wait."
"I won’t let you down." Vereesa took a few steps, then turned around and said, "If you need any help, remember to write a letter."
"Can my letter be delivered to the gates of Quel’Thalas?" Jesse asked.
"As long as you write your name on it," Vereesa said seriously. "I promise to make sure it reaches my hands."
"Alright then," Jesse said. "Thank you!"
"I should be the one thanking you."
Vereesa said as she waved her hand and walked towards the gangplank.
Jesse raised his hand, watching the elf’s figure gradually blend into the crowd boarding the ship. The light green cape became less conspicuous, he took a deep breath of the salty sea breeze, then spat it out little by little.
Looking at the dark bow of the ship, he couldn’t help but think of the incantations he had written down from Teron Gorefiend. In fact, he hadn’t figured out which ones were Gul’dan’s voice and which were Gorefiend’s own voice.
After coming back, he went to the Cathedral of Light to make sure there were no spooky ghosts hiding in the corners of his body. He then went to Malin to say hello, and was too busy to find imp to carefully organize the content.
Plus, this involves scary things related to Gul’dan and Teron Gorefiend, which is definitely not suitable to try in Stormwind. If any of Gul’dan’s research like "The Hand of Gul’dan" is involved, it could be deadly to cast a spell and summon a Shadow Meteor from the sky to collapse a building.
"Jesse!"
Hearing a shout from a high place almost drowned out by the waves, Jesse looked up.
Vereesa was waving her hands on the bow of the ship, shouting, "Next time I come to Stormwind, I’ll come find you to play!"
"Then remember to teach me Elvish!" Jesse shouted.
The elf hesitated for a moment, then shouted, "Pay up!"
"Okay, I’ll learn a bit, okay."
Jesse said softly, then sat down on a nearby wooden stump.
A strong sense of emptiness and loss washed over him as he listened to the sound of the waves.
He stared at the sea below and suddenly remembered the lunch he had with Greed before leaving. He rubbed his face hard, trying to shake off the awkward feeling.
There were many things in front of him.
The most important thing for him now was the Apprentice Mage Exam on March 22nd, just two weeks away. He had to put all other issues aside because he had already delayed them for too long.
As for the memories in Gorefiend’s mind, he wasn’t in a hurry to explore them. After completing the Apprentice Mage Exam and mastering Demonic, he could cautiously delve into them bit by bit.
After the incident in Gakin, both Zardeth and the others at The Slaughtered Lamb, he became more cautious about these new things.
Besides, he knew that the things he had written down might be much more dangerous than summoning a succubus. If he couldn’t ensure his safety, he might as well keep that scroll hidden away in his bag.
For some time after that, Jesse devoted almost all of his energy to the library.
Studying in the library was not just for the Apprentice Mage Exam, but also to help him escape the endless shadows and undead chaos of the next two to three weeks, and to quickly regain his composure.
Malin told him that the apprentice mage exam is not as difficult as the Arcane challenges, because becoming an apprentice mage is just the beginning, not as advanced as the elite members of the Kirin Tor. It’s important to start with a broad range of knowledge.
So, the focus of studying is the beginner’s Arcane books written by the masters of Dalaran. He spent several days almost sleeping in the library to memorize the key points.
As for the bag of dragon claws and scales, he planned to wait for Greed to come before deciding if there is a way to sell them for money. Dwarves should have friends who are more knowledgeable about materials that can be used to make equipment.
On that morning, Jesse arrived at Malin’s study as usual with a long loaf of bread, took a bite, and opened the door. Amy was sitting inside, with her hand on a long and narrow box, looking towards the door.
The box was thicker than the one used to store scrolls, quite delicate, made of wood, and held together by a green metal with leaf patterns. Elvish runes with Arcane energy were inscribed along the edges.
"Finally, you’re here, Jesse," she squinted at the box and said, "Hurry up and open it to see what’s inside."
"What’s that got to do with me? Can’t you just open it yourself?" Jesse asked casually.
Only then did Jesse realize, could this be the reward sent by Vereesa?
"For me?"
"Of course," Amy said. "Don’t you know someone sent you a gift? It’s a package from Quel’Thalas, sent by Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner. It’s a box sealed with a magic password, and the note on top is written in Elvish for the recipient to know the password."
"How am I supposed to know the password?" Jesse asked, puzzled. "Is there any hint?"
Amy looked through the note and said, "Nope."
"Jesse Seso?"
"No response."
Just then, Malin walked in and glanced at the box, asking softly, "Whose stuff is this? Such a lovely box."
"It’s Jesse’s," Amy said. "From Quel’Thalas. We’ve been trying to figure out the magic password. The note says Jesse knows the password, but Jesse can’t remember it either."
Malin immediately became interested in the magic password. He walked over, examined it, and said, "Judging from the strength of this magic, the password is probably a dozen characters long. Can’t you think of anything?"
"A dozen characters…" Jesse frowned and tentatively said, "Silverlight Lake’s maiden?"
With a loud bang, the box opened a crack and the lid lifted slightly.
Amy’s eyes widened in fear, she couldn’t help but ask, "What is the Silverlight Lake maiden?"
"It’s an ancient elven song," Malin said. "Silverlight Lake used to be called Lordamere Lake, and the elves named her that when they settled in the Tirisfal Forest a long time ago."
Amy nodded and said, "I’ve never heard of this before."
Not to mention her, even Jesse who lived by the shore of Lordamere Lake didn’t know about it.
As the box fully opened, the magical runes dimmed, releasing a faint, unknown floral scent.
Jesse peeked inside and found a long pouch and two bags, one large and one small, each one looking expensive at first glance.
Amy glanced inside and said, "Oh, it seems important. Is it not good for us to stay here and look at it… Do you want to take it back and open it yourself?"
"It’s okay," Jesse said. "Let’s just take a look here. I can’t wait, and I have to go to class later, so I don’t have time to go back home. Master Malin, can you help me look at it this morning?"
"Of course," Malin cast a sidelong glance and said, "I wonder what it is too. Didn’t Ms. Vereesa tell you in advance?"
"I guess this bag is full of money. I helped her out before, and she said she’d pay me back."
Jesse seemed more interested in the long bag, though.
He picked up the larger bag next to him, gave it a shake, and it sounded like there were coins inside – when he opened it, all of them were gold. He quickly tied it up again.
Malin looked at the bag and then glanced at Jesse, making a disapproving noise twice.
Jesse chuckled, pulled out the smaller bag, felt its shape. It seemed to be the shadow gem.
He stuffed the bag into his pocket, grabbed the bread with his mouth, reached his hands into the bag to retrieve the longest one.
This was, of course, what he had been eagerly anticipating.
What could it be…
After untying it, Jesse pulled out a thin straight sword securely wrapped in deep blue enchanted silk.
Slowly unwrapping the silk from the sword hilt covered with deep blue dragon language runes, a oval sky blue gem in the middle of the silver decorative handguard slowly emerged.
As the silk continued to unfold, he saw another smaller teardrop-shaped gem on the silver from the handguard to the sword blade junction. When these two blue gems were fully revealed, Malin gasped.
"Dad, do you know this sword?" asked Amy.
Actually, Jesse also had a feeling about what this was, but he still couldn’t believe it, after all… he had never thought it would be this.
But his heart was already pounding rapidly.
It wasn’t until all the silk was completely removed, and as the silk brushed against the blade, a series of pleasant Arcane chimes rang out, as if carrying a mysterious melody with it, yet not quite clear.
After the blade was completely released, a faint and inconspicuous blue aura gently emanated from the blade, slowly swirling around it.
"I have only seen drawings before, now I finally see the real thing, this is the legendary Azure Dragon Sword," Malin stared at the silver blade and said, "Azuresong Mageblade."
