Chapter 281: Who Can Make the Master Happier
"Gakin, Gakin?! Are you still alive?"
Jesse shouted towards the door and pounded on it, but it swung open easily without much force as it was barely closed.
A nauseating smell immediately filled the pitch-black room where Gakin was, a strong odor of manure and blood that couldn’t even be masked by the fragrance.
Jesse’s anger subsided greatly in an instant, caught off guard and feeling intense nausea.
Surena, with a frown on her face, walked in, skillfully took a dagger off the door, held it with both hands pointed towards the darkness, her eyes wide open and unblinking.
"I’m going to cast the Light Spell," Jesse said.
An Arcane light illuminated Gakin’s room, causing Surena to squint involuntarily.
Jesse saw dried dark blood all over the walls, along with brown substances resembling feces, and various unknown liquids forming a cluster of unfamiliar symbols on the walls.
Surena finally couldn’t hold on anymore, leaning against the wall and retching. Jesse glanced at her, walked towards the corridor deep into the house, where various foul smells became even stronger, even catching a whiff of the one he least wanted to smell.
As he reached the bedroom doorway, a Light Spell shone at the entrance. With just one glance at the things inside, he couldn’t focus anymore and sustain the Light Spell.
Wrapped in darkness once more, he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. Although he wasn’t sure if closing his eyes in such darkness served any purpose, maybe it provided a little sense of senseless safety. He just wanted to catch his breath.
After all, that image was a bit hard to digest.
After calming down a bit, he walked in and lit the Light Spell again.
Gakin was lying on the bed, if this person was indeed Gakin.
His eyelids were peeled off, his bloodshot eyes staring straight upward, a somewhat forced smile on his mouth. His teeth gaps were stuffed with feces, overflowing and flowing down to his neck, chest, and bed.
His skin was gone, yellow fat, dark red muscles exposed to the air. His arms and legs were tied with intestines pulled out from the belly, of various thicknesses and colors, dangling on the walls and ceiling, nailed at the other end.
His lower body organs were still erect, appearing swollen as if they would never return to their original state.
On the wall at the head of the bed, there was a message written in blood and feces in a Demonic script. Jesse recognized some characters, but didn’t understand the overall meaning. He knew he needed to learn Demonic faster.
Surena glanced inside and started crying uncontrollably, collapsing in the hallway, covering her face as she sobbed. Jesse didn’t want to look any longer. He could only vaguely recognize Gakin by his size and hair color.
Is this the end of the path of dark arts?
The two of them walked into the corridor. Jesse closed the door and took several deep breaths in a row.
"Did this monster summoned by Gakin? Did this monster kill him?" Surena asked tearfully.
"What else could it be?" Jesse said. "There’s no time to mourn. We need to clean up this place, Surena. Otherwise, the Wizard’s Sanctum people will come, and the whole Dagger Association will be in trouble."
"Let me handle this, Jesse," Surena forced herself to sound calm.
"Are you sure?" Jesse asked. "Are you sure you can handle it? Everything connected to us."
"I know more about Gakin’s situation here than you, right?" Surena said. "Thank you for helping me… Thank you for taking care of that monster. You’ve done enough, now let me take over. I will go see Erlan tonight… he knows better how to deal with this situation."
Jesse nodded, even though Surena was not a qualified warlock yet, what she said was correct. Besides, Erlan must be more experienced in dealing with such matters.
"I know someone at the guard post," Surena said. "If there’s any trouble, I will let you know."
"If there’s any news from the Wizard’s Sanctum, I will inform you all as soon as possible," Jesse said.
"Thank you, and, tonight…" Surena wiped her tears and nodded, "I don’t know what to say, Jesse."
Jesse also nodded in response, as he wasn’t quite sure about the feelings this woman had for Gakin.
Surena locked the door and disappeared at the end of the street. Jesse walked out of Old Town and along the canal, unable to resist, he took off his shirt and jumped into the cold, dark river.
He scrubbed every inch of his body vigorously until his skin and hair made squeaky sounds, only then did he finally sit back on the riverbank.
When he got home, he threw the dirty shirt into a corner. Although it didn’t smell bad, he didn’t want it anymore. He decided to burn it tomorrow and buy a new one.
Molofeel picked up the shirt, sniffed it, then looked this way.
"Master, where did you go?"
Jesse glanced at her, with the image of the monster she had stabbed filling her mind.
"It’s none of your business!"
"Oh really? None of my business?" Molofeel stepped closer.
The unpleasant sweetness emanating from her made Jesse frown, making him think of Gakin again.
"Let me calm down for a moment."
"What, have you met other sisters? They know better how to make you happy, so are you tired of me?" Molofeel asked, pursuing.
Jesse suddenly noticed something off in her words.
He grabbed her wrist and asked, "What did you say? Sisters?"
"You know more than me." Molofeel said somewhat complainly, "You went to see other Sayaad… and didn’t recognize a few of them?"
"I only saw one," Jesse said. "I have pierced her heart. Are you saying there is another one?"
"I smelled the presence of two," Molofeel said.
"Come with me!"
Jesse put on his robe, picked up his magic wand, and ran back to Gakin’s place. He pushed hard on the locked door. Molofeel watched from the shadows in the hallway and said, "The other one probably escaped before you first came here, master. His scent is not as strong now."
"So Gakin summoned two succubus," Jesse said.
Molofeel sniffed the air and said, "It seems Mr. Gakin has gotten what he wanted."
"So, this is just punishment?"
"That’s not what I meant, master."
"Is calling the second succubus going to get killed? Because of some jealousy?"
"Maybe," Molofeel said. "But to me, it seems more like a competition."
Jesse frowned and asked, "What competition?"
"Who can make the master happier," Molofeel said with a smile.
"They’re a bunch of crazy people."
Jesse cursed, but thinking about what the succubus who got killed just said, he had to admit that Molofeel made sense.
"Alright, now the question is different. Weren’t you chasing demons? Where did she go?"
"It’s ‘he’," Molofeel said. "The other one is male."
"Is he still in this city?"
"I’m not sure."
"We need to find him, then get rid of him," Jesse said. "Tonight, or I won’t be able to sleep."
