Chapter 279: Magic Arrows
That night, Jesse arranged to meet Vereesa at The Gilded Rose, and when he arrived at the inn, he saw the elf waiting at the entrance.
"Aren’t you coming in?" Jesse asked.
"Not now, Jesse," Vereesa replied, holding her small bag and walking over, "Why don’t we take a walk along the canal? I bought some snacks, we can eat while walking."
"Don’t you like it in there?" Jesse asked.
"Too many people are paying attention to me, and it’s uncomfortable to talk about anything," Vereesa took a bite of a pastry and said, "I thought I could get used to life in the human city, but it doesn’t seem possible right now."
"Give me one," Jesse took the pastry handed by Vereesa and stuffed it into his mouth, saying while chewing, "I thought you didn’t care back in Darkshire."
"I wanted to challenge myself back then too," the elf said, "but now it’s more like a break between missions, I’d rather not feel unhappy."
Jesse nodded and said, "There are too few elves in Stormwind."
Vereesa tightened her cloak and said, "Now I don’t even know if wearing a hood attracts more attention or not wearing it causes more trouble. There are many people wearing hats outside, but still wearing one here makes me feel like a thief!"
As they chatted, they found a secluded spot by the embankment and sat down.
"How is it?" Vereesa asked, "Is that letter still helpful?"
Jesse replied, "It’s really helpful, thank you so much."
The fairy smiled and said, "That’s good. But you didn’t forget what we discussed earlier today, did you?"
"How could I forget," Jesse replied. "This morning, I thought about it and since we are going to investigate, we will need some stealth. The Shattered Hand Orcs are skilled assassins and they are in exile, so they must be very sensitive to their surroundings. I plan to get some Invisibility Potion for protection."
Vereesa took an apple out of her bag and asked, "Invisibility Potion, I know about that. Where can you get it from? Isn’t Stormwind strict about these things?"
"They are, but there is an Alchemist who can make it for me," Jesse explained. "She just doesn’t have enough materials. I’ll see if I can find time to go back to Darkshire and see if anyone is selling Fadeleaf there. She mentioned it can be found in Stranglethorn."
"I know about Fadeleaf, I can go pick some in Stranglethorn, Jesse."
"But haven’t you never picked herbs before?"
"I took herbalism lessons. It’s an important part of Farstriders’ training. I just never practiced it. Let me have a try," Vereesa insisted.
"No need," Jesse said. "I’ll figure out a way to get the Invisibility Potion myself. I wouldn’t feel right taking your reward otherwise."
"What should I do in Stormwind these days then?" Vereesa held onto the apple core and said, "Do you still have classes? I feel restless being idle here. Just don’t make me interact with humans again. I’m better at communicating with the jungle. I’ll just consider it a way to relax."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course!"
"Okay, don’t go near those Gurubashi ruins," Jesse said. "Stranglethorn used to be the territory of jungle trolls, even though they don’t want to conflict with humans now, we should still be cautious."
Vereesa said, "Fadeleaf usually appears in the marshes, right? I saw on the map that most rivers and wetlands in Stranglethorn are far away from the mountain of Zul’Gurub, so it shouldn’t be a problem."
"There are also troll villages and cities by the sea, where trolls live. So remember to stay away from the coast," Jesse reminded. "And be careful of the predators there, like Raptors, tigers…"
The more Jesse talked, the more he felt that Stranglethorn was suspicious. No wonder everything from inside was so expensive.
Vereesa said, "We might not know who the predators are. I’ll get ready to leave tomorrow."
"Do you need money?" Jesse asked.
"How about giving me 10 silver coins?"
"Here, have some more." Jesse put her money pouch on the table.
"Thank you, this is enough."
Vereesa lifted the money pouch and said as Jesse looked at her, unable to connect her with the noble who generously gave her half of the Sunwell Aquarius.
If that bottle of water were placed in the Mage Quarter, it might be worth a whole house.
Of course, this was just Jesse’s guess; the elves would not bring out and sell Sunwell water to humans.
However, not many things could surprise Archmage Malin, even if Jesse claimed to have had a couple of moves with a black dragon, he only spoke a few words. But when it came to Sunwell Aquarius… it seemed like he was starting to regret his luck running out.
But the value of Sunwell Aquarius was unknown to anyone, Vereesa must have a good idea of how much food these silver coins could buy in Stormwind during this time.
Jesse took an apple out of her bag and took a bite, saying, "From what you said earlier, we are supposed to capture that Death Knight, not kill him, right? I think that’s quite a challenge. For instance, with Gorefiend, in the end, we cornered him, he couldn’t kill you, or get away to come after me… but he still managed to abandon his body and escape."
"If that Death Knight is truly protected by the Shattered Hand Legion, even if we find a way to defeat him, we won’t be able to stop him from escaping like his superiors. Then we’ll have to put in more effort to find his soul, let alone catch him alive."
Vereesa smiled and said, "I have a way to deal with the Death Knight."
As she spoke, the elf took out a small bottle from her waist containing golden liquid and said, "This is called Blessed Wizard Oil. When applied to enchanted arrows, it can harm the Death Knight’s body and prevent his soul from escaping. It has been tested many times during the Death Knight’s invasion of Quel’Thalas."
"We were caught off guard when we encountered the Death Knight in Dalaran City because we didn’t prepare in advance. Making this oil is difficult and the demand is not high. Otherwise, I believe Teron wouldn’t have escaped so easily."
"I will apply this oil to the arrows to prevent his escape, then after defeating him, I will cut off his head to trap the dirty soul part of his Orc. This is what the Alchemists told me."
"I see," Jesse nodded. "As long as you have a plan, that’s good."
"So, you are planning to help me until we catch him, right?" Vereesa asked, leaning closer.
Jesse tossed the core into the river and said, "To be honest, I feel bad just taking your valuable reward for finding him."
