Chapter 276: Contraband
On the way back to Stormwind, Jesse kept thinking about his plan to head to Badlands next.
He had never prepared to deal with Orcs before, even though he didn’t plan on fighting this time, he had to be ready for a possible battle.
The Shattered Hand are a group of fierce and crazy fighters, even a scattered group of defeated soldiers in The Black Morass should not be underestimated.
With Vereesa’s fighting skills and magic, Jesse thought they could handle a patrol team of three or four people, but if discovered by a large number of soldiers, they couldn’t guarantee safety.
To ensure safety, one must have the ability to escape from dangers that they cannot handle.
This requires using an Invisibility Potion.
Since starting to learn alchemy, Jesse has never understood anything about Invisibility Potion. He glanced at it in an alchemy book, but didn’t read further due to its high difficulty and cost.
Returning to Stormwind in the middle of the night on Monday, Jesse finally managed to get Molofeel to sleep, but woke up again at three or four o’clock.
Without asking Ursula, he couldn’t sleep peacefully until dawn.
In the cold early morning when the sky was still dark, there were already many apprentices coming and going in the Mage Quarter, and there were still many diligent and eager students in the Wizard’s Sanctum.
Jesse arrived at the closed tavern door, knocked on it, then knocked harder, and finally it opened slightly.
Jarel glanced outside and could barely see anyone through the crack in the door without relying on Jesse’s white eyes.
"I thought it was Zardeth, why are you here so early?"
"Is Ursula Deline here?"
"Yes, you two are also involved with each other?"
"Always messing around, I need to find her for something urgent."
Jarel sighed and pulled open the door, Jesse hastily rushed in.
The warlocks had all gone home in the middle of the night, leaving Ursula still busy in the basement.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Ursula glanced back and exclaimed, "What’s going on, why are you here so late?"
Jesse glanced at his pocket watch and said, "Now we should be asking why you’re here so early, Ursula. I wanted to ask about the Invisibility Potion."
"Invisibility Potion?" Ursula fiddled with her hair and asked, "Why do you need that? Do you know how strict Stormwind is about controlling Invisibility Potions? Even if you try to buy ingredients at the herb shop, you’ll be investigated."
"Don’t worry," Jesse said, "I won’t use it in Stormwind. I have a task related to Orcs now, and I need the Invisibility Potion to stay safe."
Ursula nodded and said, "Though I can make it, like I said earlier, I can’t get the ingredients for you."
"What do you need?" Jesse said, "I will try my best to get them."
"There are two recipes," Ursula said, "with different durations. One needs Fadeleaf and Wild Steelbloom, and the other requires Ghost Mushroom…"
"I guess the one with Ghost Mushroom lasts longer, right?" Jesse asked.
Ursula nodded and said, "Not only that, it’s also more stable. But gathering Ghost Mushrooms is difficult, well actually, Fadeleaf is hard to find too. Jesse, these ingredients are not available throughout the Kingdom of Stormwind. If you try to buy Wild Steelbloom and Fadeleaf, you’ll likely be noticed by mages or Seek out SI: 7."
"If it were me, I might buy some Wild Steelbloom because it’s a commonly used herb and relatively cheaper. Anything related to Fadeleaf is expensive and connected to light vision. You might need to gather them in Stranglethorn on your own."
Jesse sighed, saying, "So we can’t avoid going there after all."
"You can try your luck at the Black Marsh, they say there’s more Fadeleaf there," Ursula said. "But I heard there’s still fighting going on there, with many Orc deserters. Even without Orc invasions, it’s dangerous enough there."
"Let’s forget about it," Jesse said. "Can you tell me where Fadeleaf usually grows? If it’s in Stranglethorn."
"Swampy areas," Ursula glanced at the bookshelf behind her and said, "The drier parts of the marsh would have them, watch out for the fin fish. Let me draw you a map, I should have a picture of Fadeleaf here…"
Jesse stopped her, saying, "No rush, if we can’t get it immediately, I need to reconsider going to Stranglethorn. I should be able to find an herb map at the Wizard’s Sanctum librarian, have you ever tried Invisibility Potion?"
Ursula said, "Of course I have, how else would I dare say I can make it?"
"How effective is it?" Jesse asked, "Or any tips on how to use it, precautions and such."
"Invisibility Potion is very dangerous, Jesse," Ursula said. "So it requires a high level of skill from the Alchemist, and it’s very costly to make, but since I promised to help you make it for free, I won’t ask much in return."
"It can transform your own magic to create a distortion of light effect, which takes time to work, meaning you won’t suddenly turn invisible after drinking it, but gradually, and this invisibility works not only on your enemies but on yourself as well. While the Invisibility Potion is in effect, you will feel like a blind person who can only see blurry light."
"But the enemies won’t see me at all, right?"
"Of course, as long as I do it…"
"So if I remember the surroundings before drinking it, can I escape?"
"You can do many things." Ursula counted on her fingers, "Escape, steal, or even attack, but you can’t cast spells, as magical vibrations would disrupt the invisibility effect. By the way, are you planning to assassinate an Orc officer?"
Jesse said, "I plan to approach an Orc camp to scout the situation. I’m worried about being spotted by Orcs, as I can’t outrun them. So, I want to get some Invisibility Potion to stay safe."
"Were you sent by those old folks from the Wizard’s Sanctum?" Ursula chuckled, "If they had a bit of conscience, they should have just given you the Invisibility Potion, or taught you some Invisibility spell. But for a young mage like you, Invisibility is not an easy spell to learn, even more dangerous than a potion."
Jesse asked, "Besides the Shadow Protection Potion, what other potions do I need to deal with an Orc Warlock? Do you have any recommendations?"
Ursula replied, "An anti-magic potion? A common choice for dealing with spellcasters. If you are facing a demon servant, you would need a demon slaying potion. If that warlock uses fire magic, something like Fire Protection. If you have a generous budget, there are even more extreme choices, but you don’t seem like you have a lot to spare."
"Is there a potion that can cure the Poison of Undeath?" Jesse inquired.
"Are you trying to fight a Death Knight?" Ursula asked, surprised.
"Maybe." Jesse said, "But we should be prepared at least." Ursula suggested, "Why don’t you bring a priest with you directly."
"We don’t have those conditions anymore, plus we need to prepare more Invisibility Potion, right?" Jesse disagreed, "I’ll start planning with Fadeleaf first."
"Oh, Jesse." Ursula carefully took down a bottle of gray potion from the top of the cabinet and said, "Take a look at this first."
