Chapter 256: Naked Hatred Among Companions
Jesse hung the only small Mana Potion around his neck and crept past, using the cover of the cliff.
At an extremely close distance, he saw the appearance of the Wyrmkin through the occasional light emitted by the Shadowfiend.
Just like Molofeel said, Wyrmkin wasn’t very tall or big, just a bit taller than Jesse.
But his body and tail were incredibly long, especially in the dry thicket, his strange humanoid upper body and lizard-like twisted lower body made Jesse’s scalp tingle.
Covered in countless shiny scales, he looked like a monstrous creature from a dark fantasy movie.
As Molofeel said, he was wearing a red robe on his upper body, but his head couldn’t be seen from this angle.
Jesse cast a spell called Mage Armor.
Just as he finished casting, the magical light dispersed, and Wyrmkin suddenly turned his head!
His bright yellow reptilian eyes remained clear in the darkness, and he quickly stuck out his tongue.
Despite having a humanoid upper body, their heads were unmistakably those of reptiles! When the arcane energy on his body shimmered, the creature suddenly crouched down, resembling a hunting giant lizard, before sprinting towards them on all fours!
Jesse realized that his speed could be terrifying, but Wyrmkin only took a few steps before climbing up the nearby cliff and attacking from above, catching Jesse off guard.
Will Molofeel be able to keep up with his speed?
Jesse immediately cast a Scorch Curse, and the Shadowfire burst into a terrifying explosion of black and red colors on the Wyrmkin. The Wyrmkin tumbled down, its body ablaze with magical fire, casting a blood-red glow on the surrounding trees and stones.
The Wyrmkin mumbled something as it clumsily got up, coughing up black blood. It seemed both angry and resentful. Then, it waved its magic wand, creating a bright lotus flower on itself… Fire Protection Barrier!
As the Wyrmkin cast its spell, it started moving again. It waved the staff in its hand, a magic wand with a blood-red gem, emitting flames and magical light in the darkness.
Although it was a magic wand, it could also be used as a staff. Jesse knew this very well!
This mage is also skilled in melee combat!
Jesse had anticipated a long-range spell battle with this mage, but he was surprised when the mage decided to engage in close combat and take advantage of Jesse’s mage position.
With Mage Armor protecting him, Wyrmkin probably realized using magic wouldn’t work, just as Jesse was concerned about breaching the opponent’s Fire Protection Barrier…
After being hit by flames, Wyrmkin’s rhythm was clearly disrupted. Jesse quickly cast a Curse of Weakness, causing Wyrmkin’s front legs to weaken, almost collapsing into the ground. Despite stumbling, Wyrmkin quickly got back up and continued running.
Even though facing obstacles, its four legs ran very fast.
Just as Jesse was about to use another Fear to interrupt its charge, Wyrmkin suddenly disappeared in a bright light…
Blink Spell, darn it!
His past experience in PVP battles told him that Blink Spell never had invisibility effect. If he couldn’t see him in front, it meant he was already behind him!
Jesse quickly used a Fear spell, causing Wyrmkin, who was about to strike with his magic wand, to scream and step back. Jesse then used Shadow Flame again, hitting the barrier but managing to penetrate Wyrmkin’s scales with Shadow Power.
Despite the black dragon’s strong shadow resistance, Wyrmkin still coughed out purple blood in pain, shuddering and growling. Moreover, his flame barrier became almost transparent after this attack.
Just as Jesse was planning to continue his fire magic attacks, Wyrmkin suddenly roared and spewed out a torrent of flames!
Jesse covered himself with his cloak, only to see the flames change direction towards the sky and then elsewhere. Looking back, Molofeel had deeply stabbed his dark sword into Wyrmkin’s neck, twisting his face to the side while riding on his back.
Enraged, Wyrmkin swung his magic wand fiercely at his head. The succubus dodged, drew her sword, and bright, bloodstained light flew into the air.
The demon landed lightly, and Wyrmkin’s magic wand suddenly lit up. A whirlwind of fire hit where the succubus was standing, but Molofeel easily leaped out of the flames and landed far away, with smoke and sparks trailing behind.
Her skin displayed red runes, and imp shouted from afar, "Thank me for saving your life, Sayaad! Ha!"
Jesse cast Life Drain while the succubus was busy. Ready to weaken Wyrmkin further, the power of Life Drain caused Wyrmkin to tremble, but then it turned back and started chanting a spell.
Seeing Wyrmkin starting to chant a spell, the succubus who had just been hit by flames quickly flew back to attack, but was still a step behind.
Wyrmkin’s speed in casting fire spells was astonishing. A fireball was fiercely thrown from its palm, forcing Jesse to abandon guiding Life Drain and dodge to the side with his cloak.
The fireball hit where Jesse had been standing, exploding and lighting up half of the hillside. The heat wave blew towards Jesse, causing his cloak, collar, and hair to flutter in the hot wind. The vibrant light flowing from the Arcane of the Mage Armor shone like colorful lanterns…
Despite being close, he barely felt any burn himself, just a warmth that wasn’t really a threat.
Wyrmkin Mageweaver chose to engage in close combat for a reason. For Jesse, this level of fire magic posed no real threat.
Just as Wyrmkin was casting a spell, Molofeel leaped onto its hind legs again and plunged the black blade straight down! Wyrmkin shuddered from the strike, stumbled on its hind legs, and fell to the ground!
He was in so much pain that he couldn’t even hold onto the magic wand. His two forearms kept scratching at the succubus on his back. Jesse continued draining his energy with Life Drain until the Wyrmkin was too weak to resist, lying on the ground twitching uncontrollably.
The succubus thrust a sword into his chest, ending the man’s remaining life. Jesse walked over to look at the terrifying reptilian head, took a breath and said, "Fire Protection Barrier… how annoying."
He felt a bit annoyed that his first enemy after learning fire magic turned out to be a Battle Mage with protective barriers.
However, as he wiped the blood from his nose and mouth, there was much less than the blood drained from his body earlier.
This time, he didn’t even vomit.
Perhaps it was because the energy of the black dragon matched his own power more closely, resulting in a more perfect fusion. Or maybe it was because Jesse was getting better at using Life Drain, he could feel the difference.
"Your magic reminds me of Nathrezim… but you are far more enchanting than them," Molofeel said, getting closer.
Jesse chuckled and asked, "Is that a compliment?"
"Of course," Molofeel squinted and said, "Countless succubus are crazy about their beauty."
Jesse didn’t deny that the Dread Lord holds a high position in the Burning Legion and is considered quite "cool" compared to others in the legion.
Jesse picked up the long staff held by the Wyrmkin, which was slightly longer than his own magic wand. Every time the Wyrmkin cast fire spells, the top of the staff, with a circular red gem, glowed with flames.
In the book, it mentions Lady Tirisfal Guardian Aegwynn facing the earthly incarnation of the dark Titan in Northrend, wielding two magic wands. When one of the wands failed under the dark Titan’s terrible magic, she immediately continued the battle with the second wand.
As a warlock who mastered shadow and fire, Jesse had two different types of magic wands. Isn’t that too much?
After strapping the magic wand to his back, Jesse reached down and pulled the red hat of the Wyrmkin from under the lizard’s tattered cloak, dusted off the ash on it, and put it on his head. It still carried a strong scent of reptiles.
Jesse pointed at the imp and said, "You two hide for now. I will go check on that person’s condition. Hopefully, he’s not dead."
