Chapter 248: Mini Alarms
In the afternoon, Jesse took the Warlock Pack to the Mage Quarter.
Bringing the imp to The Slaughtered Lamb for frequent academic exchanges seemed normal, right?
Jesse didn’t go directly to class since the Protection School’s classes were late. He greeted Jarel at The Slaughtered Lamb and headed straight to the Alchemy Room.
In the afternoon, Elwin and Surena had brought in another unlucky fellow for practice from a room deep in the hallway, causing strange shouts that made the basement seem like a prison cell.
Ursula was brewing medicine on the other side, Jesse went straight to her.
"Good afternoon, beautiful and kind Lady Ursula."
"You’re so sweet, Jesse. Have you been to the Dark Iron Dwarves yet?"
"I’ll go tomorrow. I’ll tell you the result when I come back in about a week."
"So eager? Are you coming to ask for potions again this time?"
"Uh, no, but do you have any Mana Potions left? I need one for Redridge…"
Ursula gave him a glare and said, "Oh well, who asked you to be so cute."
"Hehe." Jesse chuckled as he took a small bottle of beginner Mana Potion and put it in his bag.
"So, what brings you here?" Ursula asked.
Jesse asked, "Do you have a safe room here?"
"Safe?" Ursula stared at him for a moment and asked, "What do you mean by safe? If your friend Andromath is determined to break in, nowhere is safe."
"Not really… I plan to summon an imp to ask it some questions," Jesse said. "Surena and the others have taken up the other rooms, and I don’t want to be too close to the door, so I thought of using your room here."
Ursula said, "Go to the back pharmacy, don’t let the imp set my herbs on fire, or I’ll use this spoon to kill you."
"The flames inside have already burned everything," Jesse replied. "Thank you!"
Jesse followed Ursula’s direction to the pharmacy, which turned out to be quite large. Various herbs were stored in bags on shelves, filling the room with a strong herbal scent.
Jesse listened at the door to make sure Ursula was still brewing medicine, then he walked to the far corner of the room and said, "Saenor, come out quietly for me."
When the imp appeared and glanced around, Jesse asked, "You little thing, do you know why I brought you here?"
Saenor smirked and said, "Hehe, your master trusts me more, don’t you think?"
"Of course," Jesse said. "Can you hear people talking outside from inside the bag?"
Imp said helplessly, "It’s hard to hear clearly, Master. The voices outside are too faint to make out! This bag is of good quality… Unless you don’t close the opening tightly, I won’t be invisible."
Jesse glanced at his pocket watch and said, "To make it short, I have a class to attend later. Do you trust that succubus?"
"Trust a Sayaad?!" Imp asked. "Am I crazy?"
"Knowing her true name isn’t enough?" Jesse asked.
"Did she tell you her true name?" Imp asked with fiery eyes. "Is she crazy?"
"Didn’t you also tell me your true name?" Jesse asked.
Imp coughed twice and said, "I… You clearly forced me… But Sayaad’s mind is not normal, they can’t be measured by the thinking of ordinary demons, tsk tsk!"
"Do you demons loyal to your master not tell them your true names?" Jesse asked.
The imp said excitedly, "Most ordinary humans don’t even know the true names of demons. They don’t have the chance to study demonology like your Kirin Tor wizards. You know so much, master!"
Jesse, of course, also learned the true names from the game.
Whether in missions in Outland or facing Dread Lord Razelikh in the Blasted Lands, knowing the true names meant finding the demons’ fatal weakness.
Knowing their true names could weaken, control, or even defeat demons in situations of great power difference. That’s why demons are terrified of their names being revealed.
Illidan Stormrage’s Blood Elf Demon Hunter, Varedis Felsoul, established a soul connection with demons using the artifact "Book of Demon Names" that recorded countless demon true names, making a name for himself in the demon-infested Outland.
Jesse believed that without knowing their true names, a demon couldn’t be trusted.
It seems that the warlocks here don’t really understand the importance of true names. Maybe it will take another ten years for Azeroth’s warlocks to mature and popularize this more stable relationship.
"Alright," Jesse said, "I still can’t fully trust the succubus, Saenor, so you have to help me. From now on, I won’t tie the bag tightly at home, leaving a gap for you. You won’t need to use Phase Shift to disappear at home. But… you need to listen and if the succubus tries to trick me, and you notice it, remind me so she doesn’t realize I’m onto her scheme, okay?"
The imp hesitated for a moment and asked, "Master, how should I remind you then?"
Jesse thought and said, "Hey, why can you hear me clearly when I call your name? Even across different dimensions, you can hear me, right? Every time I call you, you show up."
"It’s because of the contract between us, master!" imp replied.
"Then why don’t you call my name?" Jesse asked.
"What does the master call you?"
Jesse was surprised and asked, "Did I never tell you what my name is?"
"Never," imp said. "But that silly dwarf calls you Jesse, right?"
"I am Jesse Seso," Jesse said. "Do you remember now?"
"I remember!" imp said. "Do you want to try it?"
"Yes," Jesse said. "Go in, Phase Shift invisible, then call my name in another dimension."
"Yes!"
The imp crawled into the bag. Jesse secured the opening and noticed the bag thinning, indicating a Phase Shift had occurred.
Suddenly, he felt his heart go "thump."
——Jesse Seso!
Next, there was a garbled language of Demonic that was barely audible. It didn’t sound like the imp but more like a demon lord from the void speaking.
In the empty pharmacy, Jesse heard the noise, sending a shiver down his spine. But it was clear and distinct nonetheless.
"Come out, Saenor!"
The imp popped out and asked, "How was the effect, my master?"
Jesse inquired, "It was clear enough, what did that Demonic passage mean?"
Imp excitedly said, "Jesse Seso, I’m calling your name to get your attention, that’s roughly the idea, it’s like a spell!"
Jesse said, "Okay, if you notice that succubus is lying to me, or hiding something on purpose to trick me, just call my name. This is very important, Saenor, pay attention to me."
"Absolutely, I will!" imp patted his chest and asked, "Is my master taking me to class today?"
"Impossible, if I take you into Wizard’s Sanctum, that Battle Mage at the entrance will chop off my head before we enter."
Jesse put imp away, and unbuttoned a few shirt buttons inside his coat, saying, "It’s hot inside!"
"Do you know why I still wear so little in winter?" Ursula glanced at his chest and asked, "And you’re talking to a fiery imp… Where’s the imp? Did you get rid of it?"
"What else can I do, am I supposed to live with it?" Jesse placed the Warlock Pack on the cabinet and said, "Good sister, please check this bag for me. It contains the spells that Zardeth gave me to try before. I dare not take them into Wizard’s Sanctum, I’ll come back to collect them in two to three hours."
"Is there anything dangerous in it?" Ursula patted the bag and asked, "Only paper? I’m worried about moisture getting it wet, can it be placed inside the cabinet?"
"There are a few quill pens." Jesse said as he walked, "You can put them in the cabinet, thank you so much."
