Chapter 247: As You Wish
What did he originally want to do?
To earn money and gain stronger power, he had to seize the opportunity to master Shadow Magic. If there was a chance to increase his strength, he could not miss it.
Did he deviate from this path last night?
Maybe, to enhance his power…
But can we blame that succubus?
Molofeel did not disobey his orders, did not use Charm Spell, did not let others know about her existence, and did not harm him. Instead, she obeyed his every command without question.
And if it wasn’t for her unleashing the power of the shadow on her own, she wouldn’t have taken off her armor and walked up, at most just sitting there, mocking the tiny flame tricks.
In the end, she just wanted to help herself achieve her goals.
He went too far in pursuit of powerful strength.
Before crossing over, he could never quite understand the difficult choices faced by someone like Illidan Stormrage.
Of course, he doesn’t understand much now either, because he collapsed before facing a choice much simpler than Illidan’s.
He didn’t witness the collapse of the entire Kaldorei Empire, didn’t hear of the betrayal of the great queen who seemed like a god, didn’t experience the annihilation of his kin by the demonic army, didn’t directly face the corrupting gifts shown by the dark Titan Sargeras himself, and didn’t see the temptation of the ancient magic of the Well of Eternity.
Did not face the choice between a lifetime of love and intimacy with his dearest elder brother.
It was just a fire magic that nearly destroyed his efforts to control the shadows.
From beginning to end, the one making mistakes was himself.
Molofeel was just a scapegoat he wanted to blame, all those crazy excuses from last night.
Even the Goretusk was commanded by him to be captured by the succubus, just because he was uncomfortable from the burns and needed some life energy to recover.
The demon, out of control from his raging magic, almost burned to death, couldn’t even walk properly. He had to capture a wild boar, which resulted in a cut from the shadow-tormented beast. But still, he smiled while touching the black blood flowing from his eyes.
This was one of the few clear memories he had from last night.
Back home, Jesse opened the door, Molofeel was sitting on the bed, looking at the Demonic text written by the imp, seeming to be recovering well.
"When are you going to start learning Eredun, master? It’s really inconvenient to speak the common language, like some strange language invented by barbaric monsters."
"Master…please don’t make me be with her, I beg you…" the imp pleaded with a mournful face.
"You go back first, Saenor." Upon hearing this, the imp immediately crawled into the bag.
"Let’s talk, Molofeel," Jesse sat down at the table.
The succubus looked up and asked, "Are you really going to kill me?"
"You know something was wrong last night," Jesse said.
"Are you happy, master?" the succubus said. "If you are, that’s enough for me."
She seemed to sense Jesse’s emotions and her tone changed from teasing to serious, even wrapping her tail tightly around her legs.
"Indeed," Jesse said. "I learned how to control the Shadow Flame, and you gave me a feeling I’ve never experienced before."
"But you did think about killing me," Molofeel said.
"Why do you feel that way?" Jesse asked. "And, don’t you not care about dying? Like you said, you can leave this world, return to the Twisting Nether, maybe wait for a long time to resurrect, find another master, or just be free to go wherever you want. Why do you care if I want to kill you?"
"But right now, I don’t want to leave you," Molofeel said. "I felt happy being with you last night."
Jesse frowned and said, "It sounds very strange to hear a demon say these things, incredibly strange."
"Where’s the weirdness? Can’t I pursue what I want?" The succubus bent down, rested her arms on the table, and looked into Jesse’s eyes, saying, "I thought you liked to freely unleash your nature, not be bound by others of your kind in Stormwind. I thought you’ve been waiting for an opportunity like last night for a long time… But it seems you’re not happy, and that’s not like you."
"I guess you’re afraid of stronger power, no… you’re afraid that power will change who you are now. So last night wasn’t what you truly wanted… right?"
"Tell me, my dear, what can I do to make you truly happy? I want to see you a bit happier, not gloomy, self-reproaching, or sad. And I don’t want you thinking every day about how to send me back to the Twisting Nether."
"Why?" Jesse couldn’t help but ask.
"I want your heart, have you forgotten?" The succubus whispered, leaning closer and saying softly, "Twisting a mortal’s soul and making him submit to me… what’s the point? It’s too easy, no challenge at all… don’t you think?"
Ah… darn.
This is all part of the succubus’s plan.
Jesse felt like, no matter which way he turned, he was moving towards the succubus’s goal.
But does he need to care about this now?
Molofeel saw that Jesse was silent, and said, "Please set new rules for me, anything at all, master. I will remember and try my best to follow them. If I make a mistake, please tell me, okay? You can also punish me directly…"
Jesse breathed out softly and said, "You haven’t made a mistake, and for now, there’s no need for any other rules, Molofeel. I have no intention of harming you."
I couldn’t control myself, whether it was desire for flesh or an unrestrained craving for power.
Jesse knew that the appearance of the succubus was another challenge to his resolve, she was like a personification of darkness itself.
As his power grew, the pull of corruption would surely become more dangerous.
If he couldn’t resist this corruption and chose to avoid it, it would mean rejecting the possibility of becoming stronger.
Even Arcane magic can drive people to madness with addiction, the path of a mage is no easier than the current one.
No matter where he went, just like Amy Malin said, being prepared and understanding what he faced would help him deal with difficulties more easily.
Jesse felt that he was far from his limit, his will was strong enough to keep going, he should not give up so easily.
In the game, you can summon a succubus at level 20. Is he really weaker than even a level 20 warlock now?
Thinking about this, he gently touched the succubus’s horn.
"I need a nap, Molofeel. I didn’t sleep last night, I can’t keep up as a human anymore. I need to be well-rested for my afternoon class. Watch the pocket watch and wake me up in two hours."
"As you wish, my dear," the succubus said with a smile.
