Chapter 246: Mooncake
Following Amy into the tavern, the lively noise surrounded Jesse.
The young students were actively chatting, discussing the new courses of the semester, chatting about the recent war, celebrities, heroes, and masters’ performance in the war, as well as the defeat of the remains of the Dark Portal tribe and the official start of the Draenor expedition – crossing the Dark Portal.
In their mouths, that distant unknown land seemed to be quickly incorporated into the Kingdom of Stormwind’s territory, like a colony.
Some people even looked forward to one day being able to visit Draenor, enjoying the joy of the great counterattack victory.
If it was a while ago at The Blue Recluse, he quite enjoyed hearing about these fantasies of the heavenly horses, but now he felt he no longer belonged here, he was an outsider.
Violet Prison might be a better place for oneself than Stormwind Prison.
Amy found a spot in the middle, but Jesse wasn’t quite used to it yet. After all, when he and Greed came in, they went straight to the corner and spoke quietly to each other, not wanting anyone else to hear.
So, as soon as Jesse sat down, he felt like he was being judged by everyone around him. Their whispers felt like condemnation and insults, making him feel very uncomfortable.
Is this a shadowy illusion?
How long will he keep blaming the shadows for his actions?
"What would you like to order?" The question from across the table snapped him back to reality.
"I can actually pay for myself, really," Jesse whispered.
Amy frowned and lightly tapped the table, saying, "I finally persuaded you to come out, and now you’re being like this? Then I won’t eat."
"In that case, I’ll have the crab cake, something sweet. I have a magic class in the afternoon," Jesse said.
The female wizard smiled and said, "You chose well, Master Antonidas believes that food and drinks, especially sweets, are the healthiest way to replenish magical powers."
Without realizing it, Jesse touched his right eye and uncontrollably thought of the unhealthiest way he knew to replenish magic.
Amy called for a sommelier and ordered two cups of goat milk, apart from the snacks and cakes for lunch. Lately, Jesse was not very used to going to the tavern for milk.
Holding the goat milk that was brought to him, Jesse said, "About the other day… Sorry, Amy."
"Do you think I brought you here to judge you?" Amy raised an eyebrow and said, "Mishaps happen during the process of learning magic, that’s why we are in a hurry to study protective magic. I’ve even caused much bigger trouble before, almost burned down the Alchemy Room and risked my father’s and my own lives. He has taught many students, and there have been incidents much larger than this one."
"By the way, I also have to thank you for getting the Shadow Protection Potion for my father in time. Otherwise, the consequences could have been much more severe, maybe he would have to take a long break."
Upon hearing this, Jesse said, "It was something I had to do."
"Not every student is as responsible as you, he feels that you understand the importance of taking responsibility," Amy said. "He once told me, Jesse, you are one of his favorite students, even though sometimes you act impulsively out of haste, he may be more forgiving of the recklessness of young people than you think. Rest assured, being affected by the shadows is very dangerous, but if you are careful and recover properly, you will eventually be able to return to normal."
Jesse awkwardly licked his lips and said, "Thank you."
"Thank you." Amy smiled and said, "Hurry, try this mooncake from The Blue Recluse. It’s my favorite. If you find it too sweet, just have a little bit. I’ve been wanting to bring you here for a while."
Jesse nodded, picked up a small slice of the dark red pastry and took a bite. It was soft like cotton candy.
Amy exclaimed, "You should use a spoon… now your hands are all sticky with jam."
"Oops." Jesse quickly licked his fingers.
Watching him appear distracted, Amy’s smile gradually faded.
"I could tell from afar that you weren’t feeling right today, Jesse. I don’t think it’s just because of my dad’s situation, right? I’m a bit worried about you, actually, very worried about you."
"Is it that obvious?" Jesse raised his eyebrows.
"You were in the garden looking like a wounded little cat, licking your wounds. Tell your big sister, talk to me. You can’t always be the one comforting me, right?" Amy picked up a small spoon, scooped up a bit of mooncake and put it in her mouth, saying, "Share with me, when did I comfort you?"
"Comfort you? When was that?"
"Do you really not remember that morning? I feel so sad. Am I not important to you?" Amy sighed and said, "You told me never to doubt my courage until faced with danger. That really woke me up. Before that, I was always afraid of backing down in difficult situations and letting others down when they needed me. But thinking back to the difficulties I faced before, I didn’t run away every time. I think, as long as I am prepared and understand the problems I will face in advance, I can handle troubles more smoothly."
Jesse stared at the female mage in front of him and for a moment, he felt she was like a real-life angel, surrounded by the Holy Light.
"So, what about you? Do you want to tell me about your troubles?"
"I’m just a bit confused about what I’m doing right now," Jesse said.
"Aren’t you learning magic now? A new magic apprentice," Amy said teasingly.
Seeing Jesse’s lack of reaction, she nodded as if she understood something and said, "Oh, so you also feel lost. I thought you were always busy and had something to do all the time."
"How about this, tell me what you initially planned to do, like when you first arrived in Stormwind."
"Buy a house," Jesse said.
"Oh? You want to buy a house in Stormwind?" Amy chuckled and covered her mouth, "I really didn’t know that. Why not rent? Buying a house is too expensive. Of course, I’m not saying you can’t afford it."
"I want to buy tickets for my parents, I want them to come to Stormwind," Jesse confessed.
Just after saying that, thoughts of his parents suddenly brought a wave of discomfort to his heart.
If Henny found out what he did in Elwynn Forest, he might personally use that fork from the backyard to pin him against the old stone wall in the Old Town of the city for everyone to see.
"Isn’t the royal city of Lordaeron good enough?" Amy looked at a piece of fruit on her spoon, squinting as she said, "I heard it’s the biggest human city in the world, with all kinds of things, food and fun… Stormwind seems like a small town compared to it."
"It’s not that exaggerated," Jesse said. "Maybe it’s the biggest city, but also the most broken and oldest city, I think…"
Amy listened attentively as Jesse recounted fascinating and bizarre stories and legends about the ancient and grand city walls, increasingly intrigued, occasionally smiling and chiding him for speaking ill of his hometown.
Unconsciously, as they chatted away, Jesse started to relax a lot.
Perhaps he still retained some humanity as a human being, and hadn’t completely lost his mind.
At least in Amy’s eyes, he was still a normal person, despite getting into trouble and almost causing harm to his own father, he was still a kind young man.
Even if a mistake was made, it was only a scar left behind by a brave battle against the Black Dragon’s attack.
He feels sorry for betraying this trust.
