Chapter 228: Is There a Follow-Up Move?
"Fear? Fear delights me… mage! Hehe…"
The words spoken by the Gnoll didn’t sound like those of a simple-minded creature. It let out a strange chuckle, and the curved wooden staff in its hand began to gather shadowy power…
Shadow Bolt!
A beam of black shadow rushed over!
The guy didn’t even chant a spell, he is an undead, controlling shadows may have been as simple as instinct for him.
Due to the close distance, Jesse barely lifted his cloak to shield himself, and after a burst of shadow mist exploded on his body, his skin started to itch.
How would it feel if this Shadow Bolt hit without the triple protection of Shadow Protection Potion, Mage Armor, and cloak?
"How long can your magic armor hold?"
The Gnoll Necromancer laughed more wildly, he once again conjured a Shadow Bolt with his magic wand, but this time Jesse easily dodged it.
Seeing another Shadow Bolt coming towards him, unable to dodge, he raised his magic wand and shattered it head-on. The Shadow Power met Gorefiend’s magic wand and seemed to be engulfed as if swallowed by the dark yellow seams of the tattered cloth.
That shadow gem… Necromancer was stunned for a moment, even Jesse was a bit surprised, but the opponent immediately began casting another spell, which Jesse felt very familiar with, somewhat like Curse of Agony.
Why did I make Shadow Potion… Just for this move of yours…
Finally managed to use it at the right time!
Jesse took three steps and then two more to reach a high point. After the opponent finished chanting a spell, he felt uncomfortable all over his body, as if ants were crawling all over him. But if the Shadow Protection Potion didn’t work, it wouldn’t be just simple itching anymore.
Even Surena, who doesn’t study seriously, managed to torture him with Curse of Agony. Not to mention this undead Gnollmage!
This curse didn’t slow down Jesse’s speed at all. He rushed to the Gnoll in front of him, thrusting a stick out, but the opponent quickly dodged…
This is still a Gnoll after all!
The Necromancer pulled out a sharp dagger and thrust it towards Jesse’s waist. Jesse tried to dodge, and the tip of the dagger left a white mark on his cloak… It was better than getting a critical hit on his waist directly.
However, Jesse felt a twinge of pain in his mind, but his reaction was not slow at all. While dodging, he ruthlessly stabbed the sword into the cheek with his other hand, almost piercing the opponent’s large head in one go.
The Necromancer convulsed a couple of times, covered the hilt of the sword on his head, took two steps back, saying, "I am immortal… I am blessed…" Jesse swung his magic wand with all his strength and smashed its skull. The Necromancer’s entire skin quickly turned black, collapsed on the ground like a big pile of black dung, emitting a stench that brought back unpleasant memories.
"Come and help, master! The short one is too much for me! I can’t do it anymore!"
Hearing Imp’s cry, Jesse shuddered and looked down below, where Hogger was attacking wildly with a spiked wooden stick in one hand, his other arm only half there.
Next to Hogger, a resurrected Gnoll was waiting for the right moment to attack Greed, who was struggling to hold on. On the ground, there were already three or four bodies that were either burnt or smashed.
Greed kept blocking the stick with his small shield, which looked deformed from repeated hits.
"Darn it… Nobody told me I’d be fighting dead people! Hurry up and help, Jesse! Darn it, you were supposed to distract Hogger!" He complained as he backed away.
"Here I come… " Jesse muttered, drawing his sword and running down the hill. He raised his magic wand, preparing to cast Curse of Weakness on Hogger again.
After casting the spell, he felt his Shadow Magic land on a soft surface, unlike the sturdy feeling when using curses on others.
Despite being cursed, Hogger only slightly raised his stick, adjusted his pace, and continued his frenzied attacks.
Does this guy have some extra shadow resistance? Is it because the Necromancer earlier gave him some shadow protection spell or something?
Hogger’s swift moves seemed to throw Greed off guard. When the Gnoll tried to strike again, Hogger dodged to the side, causing the stick to hit the ground with a dent. Surprisingly, the Gnoll leader broke the stick on himself!
Hogger remained calm. He quickly pulled out a chopping knife from behind and continued his attack. Due to the spell cast earlier, the undead hyena that was helping Greed turned around, noticing Jesse nearby.
"Siss… Hah!"
"Undead…"
The undead creature approached with a long and a short knife in hand, its eyes glowing eerily like floating ghostly flames.
Spells like Weakness and Fear had no effect on this kind of resurrected mad dog.
Liusa!
A bright Arcane light suddenly appeared between the undead and the warlock. The Gnoll hesitated for a moment, and a sword swiftly stabbed into its forehead.
This fellow surely never dealt with a mage before.
Jesse pulled out his sword and continued forward, raising his magic wand high and casting Curse of Weakness at Hogger once again!
This time it seemed to work, after being cursed, Hogger gritted his teeth, his hind legs supporting his massive body softened a bit but did not fall. Greed took a breath, and his war hammer in hand sparked with electricity once more.
Jesse could feel that even summoning lightning required energy to maintain, and although the elements responded to Greed’s call, Greed, who rarely exercised his energy, relied solely on his unwavering will to repeatedly awaken the lightning.
But even so, he was starting to struggle now.
Nevertheless, Greed struck from below while Hogger’s legs were weak, hitting its chest with a hammer!
Hogger grunted and staggered backward, spitting out a puddle of pus and blood from his mouth, but eventually managed to stumble back a few steps, supporting himself as he retreated.
This guy really doesn’t know how he ended up like this, being so tough to beat.
Jesse ran over and stabbed Hogger in the neck from behind with his sword, pulling it out forcefully at an angle, causing a pool of blood to spill out. Hogger struggled to move aside, covering the stab wound on his neck, muttering something under his breath.
"No one can… kill Hogger!"
As they spoke, it suddenly threw a dark round ball towards us. The dwarf’s eyes widened and he shouted loudly, "It’s a bomb! Get down!"
Jesse quickly dodged to the side upon hearing this, and Greed scrambled away. With a loud bang, an explosion knocked both of them over. Jesse rolled a few times before coughing and getting back up. His crystal-like Mage Armor shone brightly after the blast, and despite being thrown a distance, he didn’t feel much pain.
This is indeed advanced magic… The effect is so pronounced, it’s definitely not like in games where you just reduce resistance by 8% and take 10% less damage.
He got up, looking at the dispersing smoke and asked, "Greed?"
"The big guy is running! The big guy is running!" imp shouted nearby.
"Where did the bomb come from, darn it!" Greed grumbled. "It must not get away!"
Jesse said, "Then let’s chase it!"
