Chapter 218: Good Lad, Bad Lad
In the early morning, Jesse arrived at the front of The Slaughtered Lamb tavern carrying a bag with his cloak.
He planned to go see Larson’s clothing store as soon as he came out of The Slaughtered Lamb.
Upon entering the tavern, there was not a single person inside.
Jarel peeked his head out from behind the counter and asked, "Who?"
"Do you always ask guests directly who they are?" Jesse asked.
"You little troublemaker." Jarel pointed to the door and said, "Didn’t you see the sign? It’s only a few hours in, who wakes up early and comes to the tavern to drink? People with such a strong craving for alcohol can’t even open their eyes in the morning."
"Alright." Jesse said, "Are they all here?"
"Those guys are the same." Jarel said, "Except Ursula isn’t here."
"Alright." Jesse said, "I’m looking for Ursula."
Jarel said, "This isn’t good, Jesse. She’s been in the basement all this time, hardly going out at night."
"Got it, I’ll go down then. Have a prosperous day."
Jesse said and walked away from the counter.
Jarel put down the glass with a cold hum, saying, "Welcome back, Jesse Seso."
Jesse nodded at him and continued towards the basement. Passing through layers of metal gates, Jesse looked at the passage and felt like some magic runes or illusions like those surrounding Quel’danil Forest should be put up to hide, otherwise it would be too easy to be discovered.
Just as Jarel mentioned, there was no one in the basement hall, but Jesse could hear the gurgling sound of water in the nearby passage, along with the faint noise of wooden spoons touching the cauldron wall.
Jesse walked to the door of the Alchemy Room and saw Ursula wearing a little vest squatting in front of the boiling cauldron, holding a spoon in one hand and staring at the book in earnest, looking like a forest old witch.
"Mrs. Ursula."
Hearing a voice behind her, Ursula suddenly turned around and saw Jesse. She sighed and said, "I thought we were friends."
Jesse asked in confusion, "Aren’t we friends? Why do you say that?"
"Why didn’t you tell me before you left?"
Ursula stirred the pot, poured some liquid into it, and then turned around. Her wet black hair clung to her scalp, and she was covered in sweat.
She looked as if she had just taken a bath and ran out wearing a tank top.
Jesse scratched his head and said, "I told Zardeth, but he said scary things like he would come after me if I didn’t return. I didn’t dare to stay here any longer."
Ursula forced a smile and asked, "That’s just how Zardeth is. So, how do you plan to make it up to me?"
Jesse sighed and asked, "Do I need to make it up to you for this?"
Ursula stared and said, "I’ll help you make a potion and teach you alchemy. But you left for two months without a word. You really didn’t take me seriously."
"Forget it, you cheeky imp. What do you want?" She chuckled and asked, "Why have you come to see me? Just to say hi?"
After Ursula’s words, Jesse was unsure of how to respond.
What Ursula said was not unreasonable. Jesse had asked for her help before, but left without a goodbye, showing disrespect.
"I’m sorry, Ursula. It was my fault," Jesse said.
"Just speak your mind. Aren’t we supposed to help each other? Isn’t that the spirit of the Dagger Association?" Ursula said sarcastically as she started organizing materials on the shelf.
Jesse nodded and said, "So, do you have any Shadow Protection Potions left?"
"5 silver per bottle."
"Oh…"
"Do you still want things for free?" Ursula turned around and said, "If you don’t have materials, it’s fine. I can make a few bottles of this simple thing for you for free. Oh, by the way, since you can make it yourself, you don’t even have the materials… You really want things for free, huh? This time you have to help me with something."
Jesse leaned against the wall behind him and said, "So, what do you want me to help you with? Tell me, I will try my best to help you."
"I need some gunpowder," Ursula said.
"Huh? Gunpowder? Is Gakin planning a rebellion?" Jesse asked.
Ursula shook her head and said, "I don’t want that rough and poor-quality gunpowder. I want a special kind of gunpowder, to be precise, the gunpowder of the Dark Iron Dwarves."
"What’s different about the gunpowder of the Dark Iron Dwarves?"
"I heard from the Bronzebeard Dwarf that the Dark Iron Dwarves infused their gunpowder with a special fire element energy from the depths of Blackrock Mountain, making their firearms extremely powerful. I need a material that can ignite intense burning. I’ve tried several kinds, including regular gunpowder, but none seem to work well. So, I want to see their secret weapon…"
"Isn’t that too much?" Jesse said. "You want me to go on a big adventure in Shadowforge City?"
He thought to himself, "I’m still figuring out how to defeat Hogger, and now you want me to go to Blackrock Depths? Wouldn’t that be constant double critical hits and triple defeats?"
"Of course not," Ursula said. "You just need to go to the north of Redridge, no need to go to the plains. Look for the abandoned camp of Dark Iron Dwarves, see if they have left any gunpowder behind. Many Dark Iron Dwarves villages, camps, and even mines were left untouched due to the Orc War. Now they are busy dealing with the Orcs… they have no time to reclaim lost land. Isn’t this a good opportunity for you to find something valuable?"
"Just need to?" Jesse said. "Do you think I am unaware of the situation in that area? Okay, I will go try. I can’t guarantee I will actually get it. But if I do, you have to make medicine for me for free…"
"Okay," Ursula agreed.
Jesse asked unhappily, "So you also know how dangerous it is, right?! Then why did you agree so readily?"
Ursula couldn’t help but laugh at his words and said, "Indeed, it is very dangerous. So, what do you suggest? How about this?"
Suddenly, she pulled down the strap of her tank top. Jesse watched as her right breast popped out, making his heart race.
Jesse covered his right eye, touched his face, and sighed, "Ursula, I value our friendship. Please don’t make us as chaotic as those people."
Ursula pulled the strap back up, looked at him, and smiled, "Why are you so easily teased? You are such a cute young man."
Jesse frowned, "This is not about being a good or bad young man. I want the potion! It wasn’t my idea to look for it, I shouldn’t have to pay with the potion!"
"Here you go!" Ursula frowned and turned around, then she opened a cabinet, took out four small bottles of Shadow Protection Potion and put them into a small bag, also adding a bottle of Mana Potion for Jesse, saying "Here’s an extra one for you."
Jesse nodded, "Thank you, I will bring you more herbs next time."
"Alright, alright, that’s all minor stuff. Remember what happened last time, don’t cheat me secretly, be careful of me…" Ursula lifted a spoon and waved it.
"Well, it’s quite pretty, just a bit small."
"Go away! Go!"
