Chapter 216: Debts Must Be Repaid
The rest of the afternoon, Jesse spent almost the entire time queuing at the top floor of the Wizard’s Sanctum. When this tower was first built, they surely didn’t expect so many apprentices one day.
Of course, the slow registration process was also a factor. With so many students, only two elderly mages were busy handling them, and the process was particularly slow.
After spending a long time shopping for a robe, when he came out, it was already evening and the clothing store had closed.
After registering and getting the course schedule, starting from Tuesday the 22nd, he had classes basically all day. There were classes for Language Orcish, Dragon Language, and Inscriptions. On Wednesday morning, there was a Language Orcish class, and Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning were for Protection School classes.
It seemed like all his classes for the year were concentrated from Tuesday to Thursday, meaning he had four days a week for practice… which essentially meant free time.
When he got home to get money to buy some food, Jesse saw Greed squatting by the canal at the doorstep again fetching water.
"Jesse asked from afar, ‘It’s so dark, can you see how many you’ve hit?’"
"’Nope,’ Greed replied. ‘Jesse, come on, want to see who can hit more? I just hit twelve a moment ago, impressive huh?’"
"Saying this, the dwarf handed Jesse a piece of broken tile and pointed to the water, saying, ‘Give it a try.’"
Jesse looked at him knowingly. After practicing countless times in past lives, he unexpectedly had the chance to show off?
Dwarf, you’ve brought this upon yourself.
He leaned over, lowered his hand, adjusted to about 20 degrees from the surface of the water, and the familiar feeling returned.
With a very standard horizontal throwing posture, the tile was thrown out, bouncing on the water’s surface six or seven times, then creating a series of countless water splashes before finally hitting the opposite bank with a loud crack, even startling the nearby old men fishing.
"This is… how many…" Greed was too shocked to speak.
"Is this meaningful?" Jesse said, "This river isn’t wide enough, Greed. Let’s compare it to the Nazferiti river another day."
"No need to compare," Greed frowned. "I sometimes really doubt what you’ve been doing for the past ten years… Do you have forty-eight hours in a day?"
Jesse glanced at him, thinking, do I have to tell you about all the efforts I put into learning how to throw water bamboo just to show off on Zhihu?
The dwarf shook his head and said, "How boring, Jesse Seso, you’re such a boring person. Oh, almost forgot the important thing – we were supposed to have dinner together, why didn’t you come find me?"
"Who made plans with you?"
"We said we’d drink today after yesterday’s discussion. You still owe me a drink. Trying to act dumb and get away with it?"
"Weren’t you supposed to come tomorrow or the day after? Okay, you owe me, go go go…"
The two people pushed each other to the Golden Rose restaurant. Jesse had just sat down and said, "Today is my second time eating here."
"Who did you come here with the first time?" the dwarf asked.
"If you promise not to tell anyone, I will tell you," Jesse said.
"I swear on my beard that I won’t tell anyone. Besides, I have no one else to tell… Jesse, I don’t have any friends in this town to chat with anyway."
"Then, guess."
"You make me swear and then make me guess? Okay, Varian Wrynn."
"No, it was Vereesa Windrunner."
"Okay, okay, enough chatting, just tell me."
"That’s right," Jesse said. "She came to Stormwind, just to find me. What do you think, Greed Thunderfist? Are you jealous? Alleria Windrunner doesn’t even know you. Her sister is trying to flirt with me."
Greed frowned and asked, "Really?"
Jesse laughed twice, then said seriously, "No, she’s not trying to flirt with me."
"Who cares if she’s trying to flirt with you. I mean, is it really Vereesa?" Greed asked. "What is she here for?"
"She said she’s investigating that order, the one we sold," Jesse replied.
Greed asked, "Wasn’t that letter given to the elves? Oh right… she is an elf, so Quel’Thalas plans to dig something out from Teron Gorefiend’s henchmen, and we won’t benefit from it. I was actually thinking about that person, you know, always helping Teron Gorefiend. Could he have hidden a lot of good stuff from the orcs?"
"You’re right," Jesse shook her head. "Once a Windrunner is onto something, there’s nothing much we can do."
The waiter arrived with a plate of crab legs and placed it on the table, followed by a plate of sliced bread. Both of them watched her as she walked away.
"Don’t give her any clues," Greed tapped the table and whispered, "Don’t tell her important information. Let’s find it first before she does, right? Then we can give her what she needs to report back. It’s a win-win situation. You understand Orcish language, but she doesn’t!"
Jesse said, "It sounds like we can easily defeat him, but he’s Teron Gorefiend’s trusted friend!"
"Didn’t you even beat Gorefiend himself?" Greed asked.
"Without Vereesa and Kaffir, I couldn’t have won," Jesse said. "And Greed, don’t forget she’s the one who healed your eyes, you shouldn’t be plotting against her…"
"That’s true, but she helped me because she didn’t want to owe you anything!" Greed said.
Jesse picked up a crab leg, thought for a moment after hearing Greed’s words, and said, "I’ve said what I needed to say this morning!"
"Just because she asked you to say it, you did?" Greed said unhappily.
Jesse threw down the crab leg and said, "You didn’t even tell me you were planning to kill that Death Knight! I’m about to start school, wanting to study magic well and become an archmage, why do you have so many plans?"
"At least discuss it with me… Besides, if you’re not brave enough to kill that Death Knight, how can you become an archmage!"
As Greed said that, he picked up the crab leg, cracked open the shell with his nails, dug out the meat, and started eating.
"The key is not him." Jesse took another stick and said, "Even if we can defeat that guy, he must have a lot of helpers, Orcs, or some other creatures. He used to be a high-ranking member of the tribe. Does he suddenly become alone now? And I have a feeling…"
The sommelier placed two glasses of dark beer on the table, and they watched her leave. Jesse continued, "Do you think the trouble caused by the Gnolls in Redridge could be instigated by that Death Knight? Is the purpose to help the tribe retreat into the Dark Portal and distract the forces of the Kingdom of Stormwind?"
"It’s not impossible, but are you just guessing without any basis?" Greed said. "Then what do you think that Death Knight is doing in Duskwood? You mentioned last time that you thought the Worgen in Duskwood is a Death Knight, but there hasn’t been much Gnoll activity in Duskwood since the big explosion. If I were to guess, Raven Hill is a big graveyard. The Death Knight may have gone there to gather reinforcements. Speaking of which, those undead in Dalaran are really terrifying, much scarier than the ghouls in Duskwood. The more human-like, the scarier."
"It’s possible," Jesse said.
The dwarf asked again, "Since they can directly resurrect the dead, why not just kill one and revive one, instead of going to the graveyard?"
"Wouldn’t killing attract attention?" Jesse replied. "Pulling the dead out of the grave directly, the sheriff won’t investigate you, especially when nobody cares about Raven Hill Graveyard. With undead everywhere, it’s the perfect crime scene."
"Indeed," Greed nodded.
But as they discussed, Jesse thought about what happened in Dalaran that night and suddenly had a thought.
"Do you think that Death Knight is looking for a new body?"
