Chapter 205: The Inevitable Arrival
"Hurry up, Greed, use your electric hammer to think of a solution!"
"My hammer…"
Greed stretched his arms hard, but couldn’t reach the war hammer not far away.
He tried to summon lightning, but after the hammer released its electric power, it only flickered and shook slightly, wrapped tightly in spider webs.
"Do you know any fire magic, Jesse? Light Spell, can Light Spell ignite…"
"I’ll try."
Jesse recited the Light Spell again. He remembered that if his magic failed, it would ignite something, but this time no matter how he chanted the spell, it only produced a soft and gentle light that didn’t ignite the sturdy spider webs!
When he was nervous before, he would cast the wrong spell, but now that he had practiced, even when he wanted to cast the wrong spell on purpose when nervous, he couldn’t do it.
The sound of spiders moving closer and closer on the ground, Greed cursed, and Jesse whispered, "I have a very useful ‘firestone’ to ignite, but remember, after we get out, don’t blame me for using it."
"He, his mother and the rest of them are useless! What the heck!"
"Saenor! Come out!"
"I’m coming! I’m coming! I finally see the light of day!" When Greed heard this voice, he suddenly stopped being angry.
"Who’s talking?"
Greed saw a dark golden little thing covered in black smoke jump out of Jesse’s bag, with a flame above its head. Greed cursed, "What kind of thing are you?!"
"Shut up, shorty! I’ve tolerated you for a long time! Keep yelling and I’ll burn your chubby lips into sausages."
"Dare to curse at me, who do you think you are… wait for me to come down… you wait for me. Jesse Seso, you’re damn… "
"Stop talking! Saenor, quickly burn down the net!"
"Don’t let him save me, let me die here! Ah! I’ll kill this ghostly thing!"
"You didn’t let me save them, but I saved them anyway, hahaha!"
Imp snapped his fingers, a burst of flames immediately burned the spider web entangling the two people clean, and the flames spread far enough to make the whole passage dim and flickering.
"Why don’t you thank me quickly! You stinky shorty!"
"No problem, watch me thank you properly."
Greed fell on the ground, then quickly raised a hammer and smashed it towards Imp, causing a lightning explosion that extinguished all the surrounding fire. A huge snake-like electric current swept towards Saenor, but Imp disappeared with a mocking laugh in a flash of light, releasing a burst of white light and shock wave that pushed Jesse and Greed against the wall together.
Jesse rolled several times after hitting the wall before sliding to the ground. The smoke from the fire and lightning explosion filled the air, causing him to cough uncomfortably.
"Stop fighting! Let’s go… go… hurry! There are still spiders!"
That being said, the sound of the spiders was already completely gone.
It’s not hard to understand that if he was part of this spider nest, hearing an electric weirdo and a fire demon fighting right at the entrance, he wouldn’t dare to stick his head out.
"Spider… sp|der, spider is no big deal."
Greed mumbled as he stood up, flames still burning on him, imp jumped out from not far behind him.
The demon yelled as it jumped around, "Come and fight me, you fool with a mouthful of nonsense, I’ll make sure to kill you."
Greed suddenly turned around, stared at imp picking up a hammer from the ground and threw it, the hammer spun through the air, missing its target, then crashed into the wall and fell down, imp was nowhere to be seen.
Greed’s face was flushed with anger, he ran and scrambled to pick up the hammer, then turned around and shouted, "Where is that demon, where is he?!"
"Come on, come on, come on!"
Imp appeared not far from Jesse, Jesse grabbed its horn and stuffed it into the bag.
"Ah… listen to me, don’t take me back!! Ah… that fat one is too fun! Ahh… I’ll suffocate as the master!! …Uhh uhh uhh…"
Jesse abruptly tightened the Warlock Pack, the bag shook a few times and then fell still, deflated slightly.
Greed stared at Jesse, breathing heavily as if he were about to run out of breath.
After pausing for a while, he finally said, "I have strong muscles! Darn it, can’t even tell apart fat and strong, stupid devil!"
"Let’s go out first…" Jesse said, holding the bag.
The two of them rushed out of the passage and arrived outside. Flames were still dancing on the cloak behind Greed’s butt, and when he took it off, he stepped on it several times.
He picked up the cloak, shook off the dust, looked at Jesse, then at the bag, and then back at Jesse.
"Aren’t you going to say something?"
"What else can I say… we agreed not to rush, right?" Jesse said helplessly.
Greed pointed at him, then dropped his hand and sighed, saying, "You darn it… always coming up with something new for me. Is that a demon? Although I shouldn’t expect anything from you warlocks, when did you bring that guy out?"
"Before we went to Redridge," Jesse replied.
"So early?" Greed said, "I’ve been completely clueless for these past few months?! It’s been hiding in that bag by your side all this time? And I never even knew?"
"Almost, during that time in Redridge…" Jesse said, "He saved me once from that Orc, which indirectly saved you as well, right? And if he hadn’t helped at Stonewatch Keep, I would have surely been killed by Gnolls."
Greed frowned and pinched the back of his neck, sighing, "I can’t believe I’ve been traveling with a demon for so long, oh my goodness."
"Honestly, Jesse, rather than you working with a demon, it bothers me more that you kept it from me… Those Orc Warlocks, some of them work with demons in battle, I’ve seen these kind of things before, so I was somewhat prepared mentally."
He then asked, "Wait, I need to be clear, he does listen to your commands, right? You are able to control him, right?"
Jesse replied, "So far, I haven’t noticed any issues."
"So the insults he hurled at me, you told him to do that?"
"How could that be…"
"Anyway, for now, just don’t let him out, okay?" Greed said, staring intently at the bag at Jesse’s waist.
"I remember… should we gather some spider silk on our way back?" Jesse tried to change the subject, "If we return to Southshore, we can sell the silk and not have made the trip for nothing."
"Um, that makes sense," Greed said. "But we can’t get a lot, it’s getting late, and our bags are almost full."
"Let’s get a clean batch, with minimal dust and dead bugs in it," Jesse said. "Can we make it to Quel’danil before dark?"
"We should be able to," Greed nodded, while tidying up things in the bag.
"But then again, if that demon saved me, does that mean I’m in cahoots with demons? So, there’s not much difference between us now. Oh! I remember hearing humans say—the Dwarves of Wildhammer Mountain, though bad-tempered and aloof from humans, are fiercely against evil, and don’t stand with darkness. I used to be so proud. And now, sigh, I’ve become an accomplice to an evil male witch in the forest."
"Do you realize it’s a bit late now?" Jesse asked.
"You demon leader…," Greed gripped the dagger in his hand, gritting his teeth. "Hurry up and get the spider silk!"
