Chapter 194: Thanks to Trollbane
That is Thrall, later became the leader and prophet of the Orcs in the land of Lordaeron.
At that time, although he was less than ten years old, he was almost the size of an adult human man, with broad shoulders even wider.
Every move he made, every shout seemed to be born for battle, he was built by the masters here as a killing machine.
Facing the cheers of the audience, Thrall threw the wooden stick in his hand on the ground, raised his hands and continued to shout his name loudly.
Unlike the other Orcs, his eyes were filled with the thrill of battle, pure enjoyment.
He truly wanted to become a powerful gladiator, instead of trying to escape to gain freedom.
Because at this moment, his whole world was here, his life was here, everyone he knew was within the walls, and Lord Blackmoore of Durnholde was his father.
Greed noticed Jesse staring at that Orc, without any excitement or thrill, he asked, "What’s wrong? Do you know this Orc?"
"Do you remember the Orc Shaman we met in Redridge?" Jesse asked.
"Of course I remember, how could I forget!" said the dwarf, looking around for a moment and asking, "Is he here?"
"I don’t know," Jesse said. "But I told him that Frostwolf chieftain’s son is still alive, and he is in Durnholde, that’s why he spared me. This little orc might be the son of that Frostwolf Clan chieftain."
"So do you really know or are you just guessing?" Greed asked again.
Jesse said, "How could I really know? The lord here has long been buying and hunting orc slaves everywhere, I thought if that little orc is still alive he might be here…So he indirectly saved our lives."
Greed looked at the castle in the distance, then glanced at the huge walls behind them, saying, "Maybe that orc priest is already dead down there, I can’t imagine how a lone orc could sneak into this castle."
"I didn’t think he died here," Jesse said.
Greed clicked his tongue and said, "That guy beat us so badly, it’s only fair for him to suffer a bit! Orcs are all the same. But this orc now, this kid, I do see something different in him."
He looked down at the arena, where the young Thrall had already been taken away.
"He seems to have been raised by humans, right? Speaking human language, moving like a human, fighting like a human warrior. But humans won’t accept him, and orcs won’t see him as one of their own. Have you seen how those older orc warriors look at him? It’s the same as how they look at human guards, orcs don’t see him as one of them. I say, he may face difficulties in the future."
Greed said it well. Thrall thought of himself as a human who grew up fast. He lived in a human castle, drank from a human nurse, learned from a human foster father, trained like a human, spoke human language, and had a human name.
As an eight-year-old child, he knew a lot but not everything. He needed time to figure out who he really was, where he was going, and what he needed to do.
Jesse knew that identity, life goals, and values could easily change due to various factors, but one’s race…
Blackmoore might have realized, or maybe not yet, but he definitely believed he could control Thrall.
The practice matches in the arena lasted until midnight. Many people came to watch, including travelers resting and some nobles and merchants.
Jesse saw that some people used passages guarded by the castle guards to reach higher places and have a better view of the matches without crowding with the lower audience.
Considering the size of this so-called practice match, even though the show was cheaper, the total income may not be lower than the main event.
After all, various passersby, unless very poor, wanted a chance to come in and have a look, to see the Orcs and gain some knowledge.
To put it bluntly, this place seemed like the only zoo in the entire Lordaeron continent. By midnight, Greed finally enjoyed himself until he was hoarse from shouting. The gloom that had built up since leaving Alterac City gradually dissipated.
When Jesse came down from the snowy mountain, he suspected that he was feeling a bit homesick.
Seeing Greed find a way to alleviate some of this gloomy feeling, Jesse felt relieved.
The next morning, Jesse walked out of the inn and saw a faint blue mountain silhouette in the far distance, blurry and unclear like a distant dark cloud.
Greed was already standing there, gazing in the same direction.
"What are you looking at?" Jesse asked.
"Aerie Peak," Greed murmured. "I have finally returned!"
"Is that Aerie Peak?"
"Yes," Greed said. "We have to make the rest of the journey on our own. I asked around earlier and no one was going to Hinterlands. Maybe my kindred have all returned to Aerie Peak!"
Jesse looked between the mountains and the rivers scattered across the plains, spotting a continuous stretch of primal forest extending far into the eastern horizon.
"Are there trolls in this forest?"
"Thanks to the Trollbane, trolls don’t usually come here," Greed said. "But just in case, we should stay alert." Jesse looked into the distance again, estimating the distance. It didn’t seem far at first glance, but if the road through the forest is difficult, it might take us 3 days to get there.
"We’re running out of time, Greed. It’s already the 20th today. Even if everything goes smoothly and we reach Aerie Peak the day after tomorrow, stay for a few days, and then hurry to Southshore, we need to arrive before the 5th of January… Honestly, I’m starting to doubt if we have enough time. Maybe we should go back to Tarren Mill and rent a couple of horses to speed up our journey, or else we might miss the ship and have to spend a lot more money finding another one."
Greed said, "No need to stay for a few days. I just need to make an appearance at one dinner party to let them know that Greed Thunderfist is still alive. And I want to take the Gryphon Rider’s war hammer back and return it to his family, brother, or comrade to show that I have avenged for him."
Jesse nodded and said, "But don’t forget about Quel’danil."
"Oh, yeah, Quel’danil," Greed scratched his head. "Quel’danil is north of Aerie Peak, but our city is to the south of the mountain. This means we need to go around the mountain, which will take more than a day. You’re right, Jesse, I didn’t have Quel’danil in the plan before, and we spent quite a bit of time in Dalaran."
"So, are you still up for a job that lasts until the night of the 13th?" Jesse asked.
"Don’t mention it!" Greed waved his hand and said, "I actually got along quite well with the boss. But, if Quel’danil can really cure my problem, Jesse, going back to Southshore would be a much faster solution. Do you remember what I promised you when I asked you to come to Hinterlands back then?"
Jesse’s eyes began to light up. "Of course I remember."
