Chapter 181: Two Strange People
Back at Greed’s side, he shouted from afar, "Why is it taking so long? Do you have so much to say?"
Jesse asked back, "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Right now there are few people, quickly go in and check on your injury." Greed pointed at the door of the building ahead, saying, "What if they want to have lunch and do something else again."
Jesse said, "I’m not in that much pain right now… it’s not like we can’t wait."
"It’s not about my medicine still working!" Greed pointed to the group of elves over there, saying, "Do you think talking to a beauty for a while will cure you?"
"The beauty who saved my life last night." Jesse said, "Unlike you, always afraid I’ll die slowly."
Greed pointed at Jesse’s nose, hesitated for a moment, then suddenly Jesse said, "Do you know what that Windrunner told me?"
"Alright, boasting time begins." Greed said smugly, "You played the hero to save the beauty, she wanted to marry you to repay the favor but you turned her down? I stopped playing these tricks fifty years ago, Jesse Seso, it’s not interesting."
Jesse opened his mouth and looked down at him with a proud look, not wanting to say anything but just wanting to kick him.
"She wants to help you solve your eye problem," she said.
"Uh, what?" Greed’s face suddenly changed, "What do you mean, she can cure this illness?"
Jesse said, "Her sister is the Ranger-General of Silvermoon City, she might have some connections with the nobles in Silvermoon City and know a botanist."
"Really?" Greed asked, "Why is she willing to help me? Why is she willing to help you?"
Jesse said, "Of course, it’s me saving damsels in distress. She wanted to marry me to repay the debt, but I refused her, so she feels guilty and wants to make it up to me."
"Haha, I’m just kidding, don’t be mad," Greed patted Jesse’s arm and asked, "When are we going to Quel’Thalas? I can’t wait another minute."
"We’re going to Hinterlands," Jesse said, "She can’t get us into Quel’Thalas, but she can bring that elven botanist out of Quel’Thalas, that’s what she said anyway."
Greed scratched his beard and said, "Let’s leave tomorrow, in the morning! But can your shoulder injury handle a carriage ride?"
"I need to talk to Master Duchamp first," Jesse said. "About the injuries…"
He thought to himself, he had already drunk from the Sunwell’s water bottle, surely this couldn’t be too much for him to handle, right?
"Let’s check again tomorrow, we’ll leave in the morning. Meet at the Blue Meeting point, make sure you pack your luggage in advance. Oh, Greed, don’t you still have work at the tavern?"
Greed said, "That dwarf couldn’t handle it himself, yesterday’s chaos worried him, he paid the wages and planned to go home early."
"He didn’t shortchange you, did he?" Jesse asked.
"He wouldn’t dare," Greed muttered, "Those undead don’t listen to me when causing trouble, I have to pay them what they deserve."
After speaking, he stretched lazily and said, "Oh my, finally resolved it. I never thought I could use both eyes to see things again, it feels surreal. Those elves are really helpful!"
"So, what did you do last night? Did she save you, or did you save her?"
"We saved each other," Jesse replied softly.
Greed squinted his eyes and Jesse glanced at him, touching his own lips and nose, asking, "What are you doing? Is there something on my face?"
The dwarf suddenly asked, "You’re not interested in her, are you?"
"What are you implying? I haven’t even realized it myself," Jesse said.
Greed nodded meaningfully and said, "Let me give you some advice, kid. Those female elves may seem polite and serious on the surface in human cities, but in reality, they are quite wild in Quel’Thalas! Be careful, don’t be fooled by those elves."
"Why would she deceive me? I’m not a noble or royalty."
"Who told you that elves care about those things? How do you think those half-elves without parents end up wandering the streets? Can’t even afford to feed a mouth that only eats cookies, right?"
"Ah, you mean that," Jesse smiled and said. "If she wants something, she should just say it directly. Who’s fooling who is still uncertain."
"You’re about to walk down the same foolish path as those before you," Greed said. "Thinking you have it all under control, just playing around, but end up stuck in the mud."
"Those fools?" Jesse said. "Are you talking about yourself?"
"Shh," Greed said, "The most important thing is not here, listen to me."
"The elves outside have grown tired of physical pleasures, no matter how many tricks they play, it easily becomes boring. What’s the difference between humans and beasts? But emotions… are completely different. It’s a unique experience with each person, each race, different environments, different parents… It’s a deeper, more difficult pursuit of excitement, something that elves are more interested in! You think a female elf would fall in love with you, have real feelings for you, like a human you know. No, they are just exploring deeper within you, seeking more unfamiliar feelings. One day, when they find something fresher, more interesting, they will immediately move on, not caring about your existence… They might even enjoy a duel between you and their new love more than anything. They would feel happier, more satisfied."
Jesse’s eyes widened, muttering, "What have you experienced? Have you been wild in Hinterlands?"
"Quiet!" Greed continued, "It’s fine to joke about bringing an elf home and bragging, but don’t get yourself involved in it for real, Jesse! They can live for two thousand years, while you only have a few decades. Do you think they would take you seriously? I don’t want to be consoling your psychological wounds every day in the future."
"Are you talking about me and that Windrunner?" Jesse asked, "Do you think it’s possible?"
"It’s the same for all female elves," Greed said, "I think you’re almost reaching that dangerous edge, so I can’t continue to take it as a joke. Go back to Stormwind, or go to Lordaeron, find a human girl who truly loves and cares for you, who can only live sixty years. Do you understand what I mean? Stop obsessing over some alien creatures. By the way, do you have any special fetishes, like needing to hold onto two long ears to feel something?"
"I’ve never tried, how would I know."
"You could try finding a troll," Greed chuckled.
Jesse looked over at the elves again, Vereesa still standing there, occasionally exchanging words with a few other elves.
Thinking back on their conversation just now, although Vereesa helped herself and Greed a lot, she was only hoping to repay Jesse’s kindness. Maybe it was because of their different races, or something else, that uncomfortable distance always remained between them.
Now thinking about it, even if it’s water from the Sunwell, is it really that important?
Maybe only a kid like him, who grew up on the dirt roads of Lordaeron royal city, would find it amazing. Perhaps for someone like Windrunner, a nobleman’s daughter, it’s nothing special. But to say that he never dreamed of anything would be impossible, of course.
He even fantasized from the moment he arrived in this world about choosing one of the Windrunner sisters, or someone like Jaina, Calia, or even the Black Dragon Queen, Red Dragon Queen, or maybe even all of them.
Of course, this thought didn’t last long, as the reality that hit him after crossing over quickly extinguished it.
Greed looked at Jesse for a long time without speaking, and asked, "What are you thinking? You’re not really interested in female trolls, are you?"
"I can give it a try if the opportunity arises," Jesse replied.
"Ah… I was just kidding. Are you serious?"
"After all, you only live once, dwarf, and besides, for trolls, my height suits better than yours."
