Chapter 175: Blood and Wind
This was the true Curse of Agony, much more terrifying than Surena’s, and Jesse stood up, leaning against the wall, trying to keep himself as clear-headed as possible.
He had to rely on his willpower and resistance to darkness to endure round after round of torment from the shadows. If he passed out, his will would collapse and the shadows would quickly become much deadlier than they are now.
He couldn’t hear anything, and could only smell a strong, rusty odor in his nose. He desperately made his way to a small courtyard, and leaned over a puddle at the side of the road to drink rainwater in big gulps, trying to dilute the smell.
Only when the pain finally stopped getting worse, did he sit down against the wall, taking deep breaths one after another, feeling the fact that he was still alive.
Gorefiend underestimated Jesse’s willpower, thinking that a Curse of Agony would finish him off. If it were that simple, wouldn’t Jesse have been struggling in vain all this way?
At that moment, he saw an eye peeking at him from the crack in the wall broken by Gorefiend, seemingly belonging to a child.
"Go back, don’t come out," Jesse said.
However, after the eye disappeared, a small hand reached out from the crack in the wall, holding… an apple.
Jesse was actually starving, so he said thank you, took the apple and took a big bite, feeling a sweet taste in his mouth, making him feel much more alive.
He threw away the core and turned back, the collapsed wall behind him making a series of clinking metal sounds.
"Now it’s your turn, Quel’dorai."
Gorefiend swung his war hammer towards Kaffir, but it missed as Kaffir dodged the attack and leaped onto the wall, heading towards the roof.
Gorefiend reached out towards the elf on the high ground and summoned a red shadow claw to grab at the rooftop!
The elf leaped over the alley, caught the other side of the roof, and narrowly avoided the blood claw attack that tore through a large patch of bricks and tiles.
Is this the real Gorefiend’s Grasp? A pulling skill in the game is as terrifying as a cannonball here…
Seeing the elf escape to the roof, Teron raised his head, with the muscle patterns between his armor seeming to shimmer with Shadow Power.
He leaped and grabbed the edge of the middle tile, then exerted force from his arms to propel himself onto the roof, his cloak fluttering like a giant dark yellow bat.
Jesse couldn’t leave Kaffir behind, so he threw the magic wand onto the rooftop, stepped back two paces, and after a short run-up, grabbed a window ledge with both hands. He then jumped from the window sill to the crack clawed open by the shadow claw, finally making his way to the top, albeit in a more awkward manner.
Several buildings ahead, the pursued and pursuer engaged in a chase. Despite the elf running fast, Gorefiend, being much larger, with a slower pace, and enhanced by his Shadow Power, was catching up quickly!
These two guys were super fast, while Jesse had only been practicing long-distance running in Stormwind for two years. He chased them tirelessly, especially having to sprint with all his might and jump every time there was a gap between buildings.
Kaffir leaped over another gap between buildings, with Gorefiend running and trying to use Gorefiend’s Grasp. Although he didn’t hit his target, the dark red power released by Bloodclaw brushed Kaffir in mid-air, causing him to lose balance.
The elf couldn’t land on the rooftop of the other building and barely grabbed onto the edge.
He climbed onto the rooftop and before he could take two steps, Gorefiend leaped towards him from behind!
As Teron swung his warhammer high in the air, ready to strike down, the agile elf dodged and the hammer hit the rooftop. Even from across several buildings, Jesse could feel the impact.
After dodging, Kaffir turned around and threw a dagger accurately at Gorefiend’s knee!
Gorefiend casually pulled out the dagger and tossed it aside, continuing his attack as if the leg wasn’t his own.
Having experienced the Battle of Quel’Thalas, Gorefiend knew that elves could interrupt spellcasting with an Arcane Torrent. Without using magic, he relentlessly attacked. Kaffir was struggling more and more, but Gorefiend fought on bravely.
Jesse crossed the last gap between buildings, chanting a spell under his breath. The elf barely avoided several attacks, but Gorefiend suddenly released a shockwave of shadows from his foot, disrupting Kaffir’s dodging rhythm. The explosion of energy resembled Shadow’s Fury!
While releasing energy, Gorefiend aimed at the elf and swung the heavy hammer in his hand. This time Kaffir couldn’t dodge and was scraped on the waist by the sharp edges of the hammer…
Kaffir roared, fell to the ground, tried to run out, fell again. Jesse frowned, but he couldn’t shift his focus from casting spells because of this sudden accident.
Gorefiend picked up the war hammer and walked towards Kaffir step by step, but suddenly felt his body being drained by magic from behind, turning around in surprise.
"You’re still alive?"
Gorefiend muttered a spell, made a grasping motion with his hand, unexpectedly pulling Jesse with the magic wand in his hand.
The magic wand struggled to break free from Jesse’s control, Jesse couldn’t hold it and was almost dragged off the roof!
Gorefiend reached out to catch his magic wand midair, lifted it up and aimed the sharp tip at Jesse.
Oh no.
Jesse turned around immediately, Gorefiend forcefully threw the magic wand, its speed of throw comparable to a spear!
Jesse tried to dodge but couldn’t avoid it completely, he was pierced directly through the left shoulder by the magic wand! He was nailed to the wall of the small rooftop cabin behind him, and the intense pain hit him wave after wave, making him want to scream but unable to make a sound.
Teron chuckled and said, "Go ahead, scream out loud. Your cries will only make me savor tonight’s victory even more."
The Death Knight easily leaped over to this side, dragging a clanging war hammer that scraped against the ground, getting closer step by step.
Suddenly, a faint purple arc cut through the rain curtain from a distance and pierced Gorefiend’s neck!
Teron grabbed the arrow from his neck, pulled it out, and tossed it on the ground, muttering, "Another of those vile Quel’dorai, come one, come all."
He smirked and looked towards the other side, a green shadow leaping from a distance, followed by a streak of starlight cutting through the night sky like a bullet aimed straight at Teron.
This time, Teron didn’t take the hit head-on, he sidestepped, and the arc pierced straight into the wall not far from Jesse, kicking up a cloud of Arcane dust.
Arrows flashing with white light kept coming, but Teron blocked them with a black shadow cloak, the arrows hitting the cloak seemed to disappear like vanishing into ink, leaving only scattered dust.
Seeing that the arrows were ineffective, the shadow swiftly rushed towards Teron, two icy glints slashing towards his head in succession.
Teron barely blocked one attack with his warhammer, but got his arm injured by another strike. Angry Teron released a burst of shadow rage, staggering the shadow two steps. Then Jesse finally saw clearly, it was Vereesa Windrunner!
