Chapter 172: Three Holy Items (2)
"The Book of Medivh is likely one of them," Kel’Thuzad said. "But from what I know, that book contains too many difficult-to-translate spells and knowledge. Just with this one clue, we cannot determine the purpose of the one giving the orders."
"Alright, let’s count the Book of Medivh. But what about the other two holy items? Master Kel’Thuzad is right, without the other two, we have no idea what the Book of Medivh can be used for," Aethas Sunreaver’s unique accent made his question very clear.
"Perhaps in Quel’Thalas," a scholar from Gilneas said, looking at Aethas.
"Then Teron Gorefiend should give up on that idea," Aethas said. "Unless Silvermoon City’s magic is breached by force, it will not be infiltrated."
"I think this matter should be discussed at a political or military meeting, rather than a language discussion meeting," Kel’Thuzad said. "Let’s focus on the language of the letter itself. As for the content of this letter, I will quickly bring it to the Kirin Tor meeting to discuss with other masters, including Master Antonidas…"
"But our original intention of learning Language Orcish was for the benefit of the Alliance, Master Kel’Thuzad," Duchamp said.
A scholar from Kul Tiras said, "I agree with Master Duchamp’s views. Considering the recent nature of this order, and its potential impact on the safety of treasures held by each kingdom, we Language Orcish researchers should fully utilize our knowledge and abilities to interpret what this order conveys. You have also seen the disaster in Alterac City, the injured soldiers and the burned walls. The allied forces of Lordaeron and Stromgarde suffered a disastrous defeat against the remaining orc forces! By all that is holy, if we had received a similar order earlier, perhaps we could have prevented this tragedy."
Kel’Thuzad looked at him and said, "The failure of Alterac City happened months ago, Master Radimo. Teron Gorefiend has not shown up yet. Even the Holy Light does not know where he is."
He looked at the others and said, "Perhaps he has already gone to Stranglethorn or Hinterlands. The other two artifacts could be stored in the cities of Gurubashi and Amani Trolls. These empires have existed in this world long before recorded history. The ancient artifacts they store in Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman are beyond imagination."
"What Master Kel’Thuzad said does make sense."
"Could it be three representative treasures of humans, elves, and trolls? The Book of Medivh is undoubtedly the representative artifact of our human kingdoms. I hope the expedition of Nethergarde can stop that thief and prevent it from flowing to the other side of the Dark Portal."
"It might be a dwarf? Perhaps the evil artifact underground in Grim Batol, Teron Gorefiend’s subordinates may have found it there and started excavating."
"Let’s focus on the real world, Mr. Korosso, and not talk about distant legends."
"Grim Batol really exists!" shouted a dwarf. Jesse couldn’t believe it. Kel’Thuzad was focusing on something unexpected.
He was hoping the mage would quickly contact the Eye of Dalaran, as everyone agreed.
Jesse took a deep breath and said, "Master, dear teachers, even if Gorefiend went elsewhere, I think Dalaran should be protected. After all, Dalaran and the Kirin Tor protect some of the most powerful artifacts known to humanity…"
"This young apprentice is right. Dalaran is where we need to be cautious," agreed Aethas.
"The Vault’s defenses are strong, as strong as Quel’Thalas," Kel’Thuzad calmly replied. "But I will bring up this suggestion at the next council meeting."
"The Orc command you brought is valuable, Mr. Seso. Please protect it, as many may want to see it. If what you say is true, it could be Teron Gorefiend’s own writing… Now, let the scholars from the Kingdom of Lordaeron present their research."
Kel’Thuzad finished speaking, his eyes fixed on Jesse, his expression cold yet threatening.
Was this an illusion? Was he feeling this way because of his bias against Kel’Thuzad? Wait…
Why was Kel’Thuzad avoiding the main topic and steering the discussion elsewhere?
Jesse suddenly considered a possibility he didn’t want to think about – could he be involved in the plans of the black dragon and Teron Gorefiend?
Could Kel’Thuzad be a traitor, involved in some secret dealings?
Did he help Gorefiend steal the Eye of Dalaran from the treasure vault, in exchange for knowledge on studying the power of death for Death Knights and even guidance from the black dragons?
Thinking about that look, Jesse’s emotions were in turmoil.
Glancing back at the esteemed member of the six-person council, he felt helpless, knowing he couldn’t do anything more for the Eye of Dalaran here.
If his guess was correct, the contents of this letter might not leave this room!
How motivated would those scholars be to continue investigating the identity of the relic after the meeting?
Once they return to their countries, they may just warn their kings and lords – how could they possibly still be concerned about Dalaran?
"Thank you, I will be careful, Master Kel’Thuzad."
After speaking, Jesse turned and walked up the steps feeling a little guilty for not standing up for himself, but now there was nothing he could do.
After clearly seeing Kel’Thuzad’s problem, should he continue openly opposing him?
Jesse’s goal was to survive the crisis, not gloriously become a possible unnoticed part of abomination in Kel’Thuzad’s basement.
However, before he could take a few steps, the entire meeting hall suddenly shook, and dust floated down from above.
Kel’Thuzad frowned, looking up at the skylight, while the scholars in the room gasped in surprise.
"Does Alterac also have earthquakes?" asked a frantic female scholar from Stromgarde.
Holding onto the armrest of her chair, a scholar from Gilneas said, "Strictly speaking, this is not Alterac, but Dalaran is located at the border of the Gilneas Peninsula and Alterac Mountains, madam, so even if there are earthquakes, it’s not unusual."
Just as Jesse regained his balance, a stumbling apprentice rushed up from behind the platform, seeing Kel’Thuzad, he immediately shouted in a trembling voice, "Master, Dalaran is under attack."
This startled everyone up high.
"Who attacked? Was it Terenas II?!" Aethas Sunreaver stood up angrily and asked.
"It’s black dragons! Master, it’s a group of black dragons!"
