Chapter 128: The Great Palatine Conqueror
Finally, the day to depart has arrived.
Jesse asked imp to watch the pocket watch and wake him up at 5 o’clock, but he woke up before 4 o’clock because he slept early the day before. He had important things to do that day, so he couldn’t afford to sleep in.
He took his packed luggage and double-checked that he locked the door securely. Before leaving, he woke up the landlord, reminding him again to take care of his small rented house and not rent it out before the lease expired. Then, he headed towards the harbor.
The day was getting brighter later and later. Around 5 o’clock, the sky was as blue as ink. Apart from the drowsy guards on the street, there was no one else around.
However, everything changed completely once he reached the docks.
Even though it was still early dawn, the Stormwind Harbor was already crowded. It’s no wonder that later on, the Alliance had to expand the port when preparing for the Northern Expedition.
Of course, it was probably also because The Feast of Winter Veil was approaching.
Isn’t it strange that Jesse, who rarely visited the port for business, was participating in the crowded port activities at this time?
Different from the usual Stormwind accent on the streets, the port was filled with people speaking various accents, mostly from Lordaeron and even some from Kul Tiras.
Unlike the game map, Kul Tiras was actually closer to Stormwind than Lordaeron. The island where it was located was just off the coast of Palatine Bay. It would take about a week to sail from there to Boralus Harbor.
Despite that, he rarely saw Kul Tirans. This time, he saw several Kul Tiras soldiers wearing green clothes, with a golden ship anchor emblem on their shoulders. These people were tall and broad-shouldered like a pack of hyenas, shouting in a language that was almost incomprehensible.
Some large ships were hovering outside the port, seemingly because the docks were almost full and unable to accept any more ships. The dock administrator seemed to be urging the sailors to sail quickly and make way for incoming ships.
Jesse navigated through the crowd while gazing at the so-called "Great Palatine Conqueror" on the port. According to Greed, this ship was quite large and should stand out.
While looking into the distance, Jesse accidentally tripped on something slippery and almost fell. When he looked down, he seemed to have just stepped on a sea fish. He heard an irritated man nearby, but the crowd quickly blocked Jesse’s view, and he couldn’t tell where the voice was coming from.
Just as he was checking his shoes for any damage, a strong hand suddenly grabbed his cloak…
"Oh my goodness!"
Jesse grabbed the hood on his neck, thinking that a thief was about to rob him. But when he turned around, he saw Greed. "Hey, kid, lost your way?"
Greed wore a dark brown leather jacket, with thick metal chains around his arms, wrists, and waist.
He also had a light green headband tying back his dark brown-almost black hair into a ponytail.
Jesse had never seen him dressed like this before, it was different from his usual style and even different from all the dwarves in Stormwind.
Jesse almost didn’t recognize him at first.
Seeing Jesse’s surprised expression, Greed proudly said, "Don’t I look handsome? This is the outfit I brought from Aerie Peak. Even though I left the knights’ order, they didn’t take this outfit back. I am going to wear this Wildhammer battle armor back to the Hinterlands and remind them of who I am."
"It’s definitely distinctive," Jesse nodded.
"Follow me," Greed said, "The ship Palatine is over there, not far from here."
He was right, "The Great Palatine Conqueror" was docked at the northernmost bay of the port, a large dark brown ship with runes carved on the bow resembling some kind of magical symbols.
As Greed and Jesse approached, several strong dock workers were carefully carrying a large crate covered with cloth and ropes onto the ship. But what caught Jesse’s attention more was the little goblin shouting and creating a commotion below.
To put it simply, it was his first time seeing a goblin up close, and the appearance of this little creature suddenly added a magical touch to the plain medieval-style dilapidated dock.
"Oh my goodness!" the goblin pointed at the exhausted workers and shouted in a very fluent language, "If your king didn’t ban Ogres from entering the city, I would hire you useless lot. If you dare to damage the guests’ belongings, you’ll be in big trouble. Stormwind’s law doesn’t specifically ban trolls from entering! Trolls are not only stronger than you bunch of weaklings, but they also aren’t picky eaters."
The goblin was slightly shorter than a Gnomish, but his head seemed exaggerated due to his tall pointed ears and extremely fluffy red hair.
His rough and dry green skin, restless dark yellow eyes darting around, full of sticky saliva when talking, and his skinny limbs trembling like a scared mouse.
"Hurry up! Can’t you hear the bald head rushing us? We need to depart in two hours. The guests’ goods are not all packed yet. I can’t believe how slow you big dummies are."
However, as Jesse and Greed approached, the goblin glanced briefly at the Dwarf Wildhammer and awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Ah, are you guests of the ‘Great Palatine Conqueror’?" the goblin smiled, his eyes almost disappearing under the green wrinkled face. "Just give me your names, and you can board the ship. We guarantee departure within two hours, without leaving any important guest’s luggage behind. Our service quality is well known from Booty Bay to Winter Veil Town!"
"Jesse Seso."
"Oh, let me see, Mr. Jesse Seso, welcome!"
"Desire for more"
"’Desire for more’… What’s that?"
"It’s ‘desire for more,’ what else?"
The goblin scratched his head and said, "Desire for more is a common name among dwarves, Mr. Desire for more. You must provide your family background, or else if I let you pass without verification, I can’t take responsibility!"
Desire for more frowned and said, "Thunderfist, Desire for more Thunderfist."
"Here is the Desire for more from the Thunderfist family!" the goblin pointed to a roster in his hand and said, "I’m Jazik, the first mate of this ship, in charge of things that captains can’t be bothered with. We will spend half a month together in the future. Nice to meet you both! Please come on board!"
The two followed a group of workers carrying large boxes onto the ship. Jesse saw the goblin’s face, which was originally smiling, darken suddenly as he continued to curse at the workers. He looked at Desire for more, who was walking with his head down, and asked, "Even I know about the Thunderfist family from Aerie Peak. I wouldn’t have heard you mention it if it weren’t for this trip."
"There’s nothing to mention." Desire for more stood on the deck, looked around, and said, "No matter how famous a family is, it loses its significance when you have hundreds of relatives all over the world, especially when you are the most useless one among this inexplicable group of relatives."
