Chapter 124: Ready for Greed
At noon, Jesse returned home and started packing her bags. She began packing a day early because she had too many things to organize.
First, all the books about warlocks, like Demonic and Language Orcish, and the pile of notes that imp wrote for him, must be taken away and packed up properly.
To keep things secret, Jesse decided not to open them on the way, it’s best to seal them in a lockable small box and take them back the same way. The only goal is not to leave those things in Stormwind, to keep his little secret safe from being discovered by others.
These books do not contain any magic energy, so they can’t be detected even in Dalaran, but there are people in Dalaran who may recognize their content, so they must be sealed and not opened.
The biggest issues are the imp and the magic wand of Teron’gor taken from the Orc’s body.
The problem with the imp is the most serious, as he often carried the wand in and out of Stormwind, visited Mage Quarter, but never took him into Wizard’s Sanctum.
However, Jesse believed that even if there are warlocks in Dalaran, occasionally carrying a bit of Shadow Power wouldn’t cause a big reaction immediately, as alchemists also carry a hint of shadow energy.
Besides, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious sign of shadow presence on the surface of the wand.
Dealing with the imp is more troublesome, as it is a real demon, relying on just that package, will there really be no issues in Dalaran?
If he doesn’t want to bring the imp along, he has to either kill it or set it free.
It’s safer to kill, we don’t know what trouble letting it go might bring.
But if it’s killed…
This journey is long, we don’t know what unexpected things might happen along the way. It’s hard to say whether the benefits or disadvantages Saenor might bring are greater.
In the end, Jesse decided to leave the imp, and wrapped it up in the Warlock Pack.
Since nothing has gone wrong for so long, even a big Stormwind, no one can tell there’s a demon inside. Not even Morganth from Stonewatch Keep noticed anything wrong, not even the Gnolls.
Still, Dalaran remains a challenge.
If all else fails, let it wander in the forest of Hillsbrad Foothills for a while. After all, a demon doesn’t need food or drink, and it should be fine to stand under a tree for a few days, right?
Jesse rubbed his eyes, wondering what would happen when Greed sees this imp.
In fact, Greed has become more tolerant of his Black Magic during this time, while continuing to slice sausages… who knows how much longer it can go on.
In short, when a demon suddenly appears, it’s not a simple situation anymore. It’s about waiting for the right moment to deal with Greed.
Also, at Aerie Peak…
Maybe it’s better to let him wander outside at Aerie Peak, rather than bringing a demon into the Wildhammer clan’s mountain fortress. The risk is too high.
Jesse previously bought a small locked wooden box from the general store, filled it with the remaining books, dictionary, and notes, packed it full, then placed Gorefiend’s letter in the Warlock Pack along with the imp. That should be enough luggage for the trip.
As for the remaining Naga scales and other materials he left behind, as well as extra potions, he decided to leave them at the rental place. The landlord was trustworthy, so Jesse paid three months’ rent in advance to have him look after everything.
After tidying up all these things, Jesse sat on the bed looking at the messy packages and boxes on the floor, glanced out the window, and gazed at Stormwind’s white sky.
Having been here for over two years, he was finally going back. He wondered how Lordaeron had changed.
Thinking about this, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
The Kingdom of Lordaeron doesn’t have a 10% GDP growth every year, so how much could it have changed?
During the rebuilding of Stormwind, the changes were happening quickly. Every time you looked out the window, it seemed like a new building popped up.
In the evening, Jesse and Greed agreed to meet at The Gilded Rose. When Jesse arrived, Greed was already inside, ordering drinks.
Jesse glanced at the clear liquid in the glass, took a sniff, and realized it was strong sweet wine.
"Are we going big this time?"
"You can’t drink tomorrow night, young man," Greed said. "We’re boarding the ship at 6 am the day after. You have a pocket watch, remember? Don’t oversleep."
"Don’t worry," Jesse replied. "I’ve been waking up at 5 am every morning for the past two months. I have to clean up after that mage if I want to avoid fines. I’ve developed a habit of going to bed and waking up early now."
Greed asked, "Is your luggage ready?"
Jesse said, "I have a small suitcase, but it’s not very convenient to carry. You have a large woven bag, right? The one used for carrying herbs. Can you help me pack some things in it?"
Greed replied, "Of course, I don’t have much luggage myself, and whatever I have, I carry it with me. There’s still plenty of space in that bag. How big is your suitcase exactly?"
"It’s like a bookshelf." Jesse gestured at a small square, saying, "A bit bigger than a book, the things inside may not be much heavier than the box itself."
Greed nodded and said, "Just give it to me, I guess it’s your…"
"Oh." Jesse glanced around and said, "There are so many people here, please give me a way out, big brother."
"I always forget, but what can a few books do." Greed lowered his voice and asked, "Your things are too dangerous, I plan to bury them at the bottom of the bag. When the time comes, don’t think about taking them out to look at anytime."
"I didn’t plan to look at them anyway." Jesse said, "I locked the box to bring it and lock it back, just to avoid others finding it in my rented room."
"That’s good, we’ll both be safer." Greed said.
The two looked at the sommelier serving a few thick and spicy grilled wolf steaks, topped with shiny red chili sauce.
Greed swallowed and asked, "Are you sure those mages can buy good tickets?"
"How can I be sure." Jesse said, "Both of my teachers said it’s fine, only you think there’s a problem. Can you not bother me and let me eat peacefully?"
Greed grinned, tore off a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing while saying, "I feel like happiness came too suddenly! By the way, have you found a tenant yet?"
"Tenant?" Jesse asked, "What tenant?"
"We’ll be gone for two or three months, aren’t you going to rent out your house?" Greed said, "It’s a waste to pay rent for three months with nobody living in it, don’t you feel sorry?"
"The things in my house are worth more than the rent, and I can’t take them with me, so it’s like using the house as a storage." Jesse took a sip of wine and curiously asked, "Are tenants easy to find?"
Greed nodded and said, "I leased the house to a mother and daughter, rumored to have fled from the south, the little girl is as thin as a Kobold."
Jesse frowned and said, "Your description is quite odd."
"You can say it’s vivid or not," Greed continued, "This family has been staying near the Stormwind gate for almost a month, they finally found a house. I told them to hurry and find a new place, otherwise I’d feel awkward moving back in."
