Chapter 114: Alliance Stay Bill
In the next two or three weeks, Jesse practiced sword fighting at night and continued to strengthen his abilities to cast Arcane Intellect during the day, making him able to hold on for longer each time.
Malin’s requirement was to reach a certain standard in casting Mage Armor, making it last for at least 3 to 4 hours. However, when Jesse successfully cast Arcane Intellect for the first time that day, it disappeared after just a few minutes.
So, in order to meet this standard, he had to practice harder and master the skills of manipulating Arcane accurately.
To prevent himself from gradually doubting life under the influence of Arcane Intellect, as Malin had mentioned, he always used Saenor as his training dummy. After all, this guy didn’t seem to notice whether he was clever or foolish at times. As long as Jesse felt his vision improving, he took it as a sign of progress.
Of course, in addition to sword fighting and practicing Arcane Intellect, the most important thing was to continue learning Orcish language and practice writing articles.
In early October, Master Duchamp announced the exam topic, which was similar to what Malin had guessed – to discuss the main conflicts and common interests among the kingdoms within the alliance using Orcish language.
Jesse planned to choose a topic that was currently less popular than the Alliance Expedition theme that was trending – the Alliance Stay Bill.
It wasn’t because he wanted to avoid the trend, but because he knew too much about the future of the Alliance Expedition – the fate of "Lothar’s sons," the missing Marshal Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner, and the battles of the Thousand Year War, the struggles of Argus, and the conflict between the Burning Legion and the Army of Light…
He worried that he might unintentionally reveal too much in his writing or answers, exposing things that should not be revealed.
Cardo Duchamp was not only a teacher of the Orcish language, but also knowledgeable in many languages, having lived in many places and understanding the cultures of various races and kingdoms.
He had extensive knowledge in history and geography. If he accidentally revealed something that should not be known, he would definitely catch it.
In comparison, the "Alliance Accommodation Bill" was much safer. After the fall of Lordaeron, this bill was virtually non-existent. Jesse did not know any more than the locals here.
Simply put, the "Alliance Accommodation Bill" was a law passed by the Kingdom of Lordaeron-led alliance regarding the treatment of Orc prisoners.
It required all members of the alliance to concentrate Orc prisoners in a newly built detention camp in Alterac Valley, and collectively fund its operation.
Recently, many kingdoms or powers detaining Orc prisoners found an issue – Orcs were no longer as violent and bloodthirsty as they were during wartime, showing signs of vulnerability and drowsiness like a collective epidemic.
Antonidas, the leader of the Kirin Tor, believed that this was due to Orcs being influenced by demons. Therefore, he agreed with Terenas II’s proposal to continue detaining these Orcs, find ways to cure the demonic influence, seek coexistence with them, and eventually have them work to make up for the losses of the war.
However, the opinions of Dalaran and Lordaeron faced strong opposition from other kingdoms. Once the detention camp was established, the idea of coexisting with Orcs was no longer the focus of discussion.
Because the cost of maintaining the shelter is shared by the whole alliance, the kingdoms that suffered heavy losses in the war found it difficult to provide enough money to support these Orcs, especially since the people they were supporting had been the ones who harmed their citizens and destroyed their land.
The main issue was that each country had already spent a significant amount on rebuilding the new Stormwind, so they were struggling to support the shelter as well.
The shelter, which was meant to showcase the alliance’s level of civilization, had thrived initially but came to a halt when the finances of the major kingdoms hit rock bottom, turning it into a thorn in the relationships between the kingdoms within the alliance.
To make matters worse, the renowned Danath Trollbane, who was originally in charge of the shelter, had joined the alliance expeditionary force and could no longer hold the position, leading to an increasing number of politicians and nobles openly opposing the Alliance Accommodation Bill.
Since Stormwind had been largely destroyed in the war and the kingdom had bravely resisted and suffered the most damage in the alliance, it was one of the main beneficiaries of the post-war alliance legislation.
The major kingdoms that opposed the bill supported the reconstruction of Stormwind, and Stormwind also received significant assistance from Lordaeron and Dalaran. Therefore, King Varian did not want to offend any party, and the politicians tactfully maintained restraint during discussions on the bill, which allowed Stormwind to become a place where the topic could be discussed relatively objectively.
Jesse spent his days learning spellcasting and the Orcish language, and his evenings were devoted to training with Greed’s swordsmanship.
As Jesse realized, relaxing was important, but more importantly, he increasingly felt the importance of strength in this world.
Soon Jesse would be leaving Stormwind to return to Lordaeron, back to Hillsbrad. He did not know what dangers he might encounter in that land.
He needed to prepare for it, making sure he was fully prepared in every way possible, in his body and mind.
Once he boarded the ship heading to Southshore, there was no turning back.
In fact… practicing swordsmanship and magic was even more important than practicing Language Orcish.
If he didn’t pass Language Orcish, he would just need to pay his own way to Lordaeron. He could then sell the Naga pearl string he had for some silver coins, even if he couldn’t get the 40 silver coins the merchant mentioned, at least it could cover part of the ticket.
Whether it was his physical fitness or magical abilities, they determined how likely he was to survive after leaving Stormwind.
Therefore, whether it was day or night, he was extremely serious and hardworking. After earning his salary of 10 silver coins from Malin, which guaranteed his living for the next two months, he felt more at ease improving himself.
His seriousness in practicing swordsmanship at night sometimes surprised Greed.
After all, Greed didn’t know what Jesse had encountered on the coast of Westfall. The more Jesse thought about how weak the Naga might be, the more he thought of his own weakness, and then felt how powerless he was in this world.
Once he set a goal and worked hard towards it, time flew by. Before he knew it, it was November 12th, time for the Language Orcish exam.
During this time, besides helping Malin deliver packages to Lakeshire and Stonewatch Keep twice, Jesse has been improving himself.
On this day, he had finished his article and revised it several times, prepared possible answers in Orcish Language, and was ready for Master Duchamp’s exam.
