Chapter 110: Common Ground for Everyone
Ursula gave him a glare but then nodded, "That’s true, the scale was perfect, Jesse, its effects were even better than I expected. Alright, I’ll let you off this time, you little rascal."
"By the way, what do you want to do with that scale?" Jesse asked quietly.
"It’s a secret," Ursula said with her head tilted, "You’re not honest with me, so don’t expect others to tell you everything."
Jesse shrugged helplessly and looked at Gakin, lit up by the fire in the middle.
At that moment, Gakin was casting the Curse of Weakness spell and then began explaining the spellcasting movements. These were instructions Jesse had written for him, so he didn’t pay much attention.
Everyone could now smell the aroma of roasted meat, drifting back from the inn’s kitchen.
If this is the last spell, then dinner will be ready soon. Jesse has been waiting for this moment from the beginning.
Gakin suddenly said, "Our group has been around for a while now. Zardeth and I would like to give it a name to strengthen our bond and continue sharing and helping each other. What do you think?"
Erlan shouted, "Agree!" Ursula and Surena nodded, and Jesse naturally had no reason to refuse.
"It’s great that everyone agrees," Gakin said. "Do any of you have a suitable name to suggest and see what everyone thinks?"
Surena said, "Black Rose, don’t you think this name is cool?"
"It sounds like a pirate group," Ursula said. "And wouldn’t it be too flashy?"
"It does have that vibe," Gakin said.
"Dark Brotherhood!" Erlan suddenly said. "We were born in darkness, and we grew in darkness!"
When Jesse heard this name, he shivered. Calling it that name seemed a bit silly. This is Azeroth, not Tamriel!
Ursula said, "It doesn’t sound like a good person. We’re not planning any evil crimes here, no need to make ourselves look so wicked."
"Can’t do this, can’t do that, then you suggest something, Mrs. Deline!" Erlan said unhappily.
Ursula hesitated for a while, she seemed to have no good ideas either.
"I have a suggestion," Zardeth said. "Let’s call it Dagger Association. When each of us joins the group, we perform a sacrifice ritual by using a dagger to kill a lamb. I believe the dagger is a symbol that connects us, our common ground."
Gakin said, "It’s discreet enough, but won’t people think we’re a group of killers?"
Zardeth said, "Compared to the Dark Brotherhood and the Black Rose, they seem more like groups of killers, right? After all, the dagger has been an important ceremonial tool throughout history."
"This name is too boring," Ursula said.
"Stop talking, Ursula Deline!" Erlan said. "Let’s just go with Dagger Association. Do we really need to make the name so complicated?"
"What do Surena and Jesse think?" Gakin asked.
"I don’t mind," Jesse said. "Let’s call it the Dagger Association."
"Since Zardeth said so, I agree too," Surena said.
Actually, when Zardeth suggested the name Dagger Association, Jesse was surprised but not completely unexpected.
In the game, over twenty years later, Azeroth’s warlocks formed an organization called the Black Mirror Council. This council, which used to be made up of six powerful warlocks, called themselves the "Six Daggers."
Maybe Zardeth’s Dagger Association is the original form of this Six Daggers council?
Jesse always thought that the founder of the Six Daggers council was Kansared Eberlok, the initial leader of the Black Mirror Council. Compared to these warlocks, Kansared was much more famous among non-human warlock players.
But now, Jesse had never heard of this person in the real Azeroth. However, he knew that "Eberlok" was a noble surname in Gran, meaning that Kansared may currently be in Grand Town, which would later become Darkshire.
Could he be there secretly studying dark magic?
"Alright, I now announce that the first gathering of the Dagger Association begins!" Gakin declared, only to hear Surena exclaim, "Thank the Holy Light, finally something to eat, my stomach is starting to growl."
"Thank you, Holy Light?!"
"Tsk!"
Several men chuckled, and the previously solemn basement suddenly felt much lighter.
Jesse slowly sat up, stretched a bit, put away the book, and waited for Jarel to bring the food down.
He had been fasting the whole day in anticipation of this free feast. Feeling quite hungry already, just the mention of a feast made his stomach growl even louder.
"Do you like it here, Jesse?" Ursula’s voice whispered in his ear.
"Of course," Jesse replied. "It’s quite relaxing here."
"Is it because of Surena?" she asked again.
"Surena?" Jesse asked in confusion. "Why her? I hardly know her."
"You don’t know? Is it really true? Those few men are all romantically involved with her," whispered Ursula. "Gakin, Erlan, even Jarel… Even the sommelier who claims not to be associated with the warlock group, Zardeth, has also been with her. I don’t know, but he definitely isn’t as upright as he appears. How about you?"
Jesse wasn’t surprised at all by this. Surena seems to be of that type. However, he still shook his head and simply said, "Maybe our relationship hasn’t reached that point yet."
"Be cautious, Jesse," Ursula said. "Whenever anything involves that matter, it becomes infinitely more complicated. I think you’re a kind young lad, so I don’t want you to get dragged into it. When those scoundrels create a mess someday, as long as you haven’t gotten involved, you can stay out of trouble, do you understand what I mean?"
Hearing the word "kindness," Jesse suddenly thought of the sheep that he had turned into a wild dog. He wondered how it was doing now. Was it eaten by a wolf, caught by a Gnoll, or still wandering in the forest?
"Surena is not to my liking."
Ursula asked further, "Could it be that you like men?"
"No," Jesse said. "It’s just that Surena doesn’t suit my taste."
Ursula whispered, "Don’t speak too soon. When it really comes to that point, I hope you remember what you said and don’t just obediently comply when the time comes."
Jesse glanced at Gakin and Erlan, then back at Surena.
"If she were a bit paler, it would be alright, but now even with the lights slightly dimmed, I can’t see clearly."
He stopped talking, just clicked his tongue and shook his head in self-mockery, Ursula laughed and sat back down.
