Chapter 108: Burst of Energy
"Shut up! Lower your voice!"
Jesse shouted at him.
He flipped through Gakin’s spell conditions again, double-checked his hand gestures, because he was sure he had cast the spell correctly.
The sheep was so excited that its actions and sounds changed, as if something more terrifying than death was chasing after it. This sudden distortion of normal things made Jesse, who was used to all kinds of terrifying monsters, a bit flustered.
Most warlock magic is evil, while animals have a purer sense of nature and naturally react sensitively to dark negative magic.
If Jesse wanted to continue on this path, he couldn’t be startled by these things anymore.
Thinking this, he quietly recited a spell and walked up to the sheep again.
The sheep looked at him, its eyes already trembling continuously. Just as Jesse raised his hand, the sheep was startled again, thrashing about as if its rope was about to break.
"Eramangcilindo…" This time his voice was much softer, but his focus was stronger.
Concentration… just like Malin had said, he had to keep concentrated. After finishing the chant, he suddenly felt a warm energy rushing from his heart, gradually filling his body. He faintly felt a strange connection with the animal, but couldn’t see the essence of this connection.
In other words, Jesse felt that the Life Drain had worked, but there was no green tether line as depicted in the game.
The sheep’s cries turned into sobs, its frantic movements slowed down. Jesse saw it getting weaker and weaker, its struggling reduced to feeble shivers by the tree.
Meanwhile, Jesse felt increasingly hot all over, his skin swelling, eyes itching, heart racing as if a tiny person inside his chest was punching at his ribs.
A sudden wave of nausea disrupted Jesse’s rhythm. He bent over, his right hand still casting spells but finding it harder to concentrate.
Suddenly, a bright yellow light flashed between his fingers and the sheep, then quickly disappeared, leaving behind a fading green glow.
Jesse was shocked by this sudden burst of energy, the guided magic abruptly cut off…
Was that the color of life? Or… fel magic?
No, this magic is Shadow Magic. Those pale yellow and green hues must be the life force drawn out by shadows, the vitality from the sheep.
The sheep had lost its vigor, having just been sheared, its new wool barely grown. But as Gakin said, the remaining short wool was withering and falling off, its skin shriveled and ashen, losing its color.
Jesse approached the sheep and found it unable to stand on its own, skinny like a dog scavenging in a trash pile rather than a sheep.
Its vitality… has been drained by itself?
Jesse looked at his hands, feeling extremely hot all over, his head buzzing, his ears ringing weakly and strongly.
Another wave of nausea surged up his throat, and he vomited out a mouthful of blood, wiping his nose and mouth with his hand, both bleeding.
Watching the bright red blood on the ground made him a little anxious.
"Saenor! Saenor!"
Imp ran over in a hurry, Jesse pointed to the blood on his hand and asked, "What’s happening?"
"I guess you’ve been drawing too much!" imp said. "Your body is already very energetic, unable to bear the strong vitality of this sheep anymore!"
At this moment, the sheep seemed to revive a bit, struggling to get up, limping away into the distance. Surprisingly, the rope was suddenly shaken off due to the sheep’s drastic weight loss!
Jesse couldn’t care about it anymore, he felt extremely thirsty, with dry and cracked lips, blurred vision, and urgently needed to drink some water.
The Crystal Lake was in the northeast. Realizing this, he quickly grabbed his bags and ran. After running for what seemed like a long time, and losing a lot of blood, he finally reached a small stream. He washed his face in the water and saw that his eyes were full of bloodshot lines.
He frantically washed his hands and face until all the bloodstains were gone, and he stopped vomiting blood. When his body started to feel almost normal and his head was no longer spinning, he finally stopped.
Jesse took a few gulps of water, sat on a round stone by the stream, and rested for a while until he caught up with his package.
He wiped off the water stains from his mouth but felt that something was not quite right.
Looking at the back of his hand… the scar there had actually lightened!
The burning scars that still faintly hurt before, now only left some uneven skin with light marks!
Is this the effect of Life Drain?
Did the life energy repair his injuries and then overflow too much, causing his blood vessels to burst?
Despite losing a lot of blood, Jesse did not feel much pain or tiredness.
What surprised him the most was how quickly he absorbed such strong life energy, much stronger than those Dark Iron Dwarves described by Gakin.
Was it because the curse was more accurate, or was there something else going on? Jesse sat on a rock, quietly sensing the changes in his heart. In the past, when he used Shadow Magic, he experienced serious emotional turmoil, whether it was becoming crazier, more excited, or bloodthirsty…
But this time he didn’t feel too many negative emotions. He guessed that maybe the life force of the sheep had healed the damage caused by the shadow, and perhaps this curse could be used as a healing ability.
Of course, not everything was perfect. The biggest flaw was that, after calming down from the shock of the curse’s effect just now, he felt incredibly exhausted.
Even when trying to focus as much as possible, trying to be as accurate as possible, it still inevitably consumed a lot of mental energy. And previously, whether it was Fear, Light Spell, and so on, it wasn’t as strenuous.
Jesse could almost guess that this life-stealing magic was probably a more advanced magic, reaching the limit of his energy.
However, having achieved a very good result in just one attempt, he wanted to immediately return to Stormwind. If he walked faster, he could reach the city gate at night without needing to try more.
He needed to see a doctor or priest to check on his body, especially after coughing up blood, it couldn’t be ignored.
As for the sheep… There are plenty of sheep wandering in Elwynn Forest, so he decided to set it free as compensation for enduring a deadly curse from him.
