Chapter 105: Nathrezim’s Grammar
Life Absorption…
Coming back home in the evening, Jesse originally wanted to get a good night’s sleep and discuss things the next day, but he couldn’t sleep with thoughts of that paper and its magical effects on his mind.
He wanted to see if he could turn this poorly-performing Life Drain spell into a real spell. His dream from the beginning was to organize these messy warlock spells into their original form, using his knowledge of Demonic and Orcish languages.
He suddenly sat up and said, "Saenor, come out, we need to work."
"Why do we have to work again?!" Saenor unhappily emerged from the bag, saying, "We’re out of paper! Saenor is too tired!"
"Let’s do something else." Jesse pulled out the few sheets of paper Gakin had given him from under the bed and carefully looked at the spell written on them.
"Elerang, Siliento."
"What are you saying?" imp asked curiously.
"You don’t understand?"
"Why should I understand!" imp grabbed the paper from Jesse and looked at it, saying, "Oh, this is Demonic written in universal alphabet. The pronunciation is different, so how can you read it accurately?" Jesse asked again, "So, what does this Demonic mean?"
"Is this a spell? I can’t tell." imp looked back and forth, saying, "It looks like… transformation, transfer, vitality and other things, but the grammar is not quite right for a spell. This writing looks like the ancient language of the Nathrezim!"
"Don’t tell me you don’t understand the Nathrezim stuff." Jesse felt a bit hopeless upon hearing this, he rubbed his forehead. It seemed that the imp was not reliable after all.
"Who says I don’t understand!" The imp looked around and said, "Although I don’t know many Nathrezim words, if we follow their pronunciation, there should be a linking sound here, linking vitality and transformation! So, it’s like… Eralam, Xileondor! Also, you need to pronounce it like the large wings of Nathrezim, use your throat to vibrate, lower your voice, and drive your Shadow Power as much as possible, after all, those guys are made of shadow flesh, they are not ordinary demons!"
"You’re really an expert." Jesse couldn’t help but sigh.
"Only wretched mortals would be amazed by this knowledge, my master!" The imp bounced around, "The longer you live, the more you know!"
"Why not try this out tonight, I can’t sleep anyway." Jesse looked out of the window, estimating the time it would take to leave the city. Night patrols in Stormwind are very strict, especially in the late hours. If caught by a guard and they find your bag, staff, and so on, upon close examination, you might end up in jail.
"Or I could practice on you." He looked at the imp.
"Please don’t… master!" The imp flopped on the ground, "I don’t want to suffer! What if I die?!"
"My magic isn’t that strong, Saenor," Jesse said, "If I could have just killed you in one shot, would I have struggled so much with that Naga? Think about it."
"Forget it, master, let’s do this, just have a little mercy on me!"
Jesse smiled, picked up the paper with the instructions for the spell, and was about to start following the spell gestures written on it, but then he thought of a question.
This spell extracts life energy. Do demons have life energy?
This thought made him calm down instantly.
"This spell transfers life energy." Jesse asked, "If a demon like you doesn’t have life energy inside, and I forcibly extract from you, what will happen?"
"Nathrezim, right?" imp muttered, "I’ve heard about these demons’ Life Drain. Their extraction is not just life force, but ‘vitality’… This means all creatures, even shadow creatures or undead, as long as they are energy-driven, they possess their own energy, which Nathrezim extracts."
"They can convert the extracted life into death shadows, corrupt the Arcane energy into fel magic, then digest it for their own use. Maybe only Holy Light cannot be successfully extracted, because the energy they absorb is essentially shadow power."
"If this spell really is about extracting Nathrezim’s vitality, I suggest you choose your targets carefully, because I’m sure there’s not much to extract from me. Even if you drain me to death, there’s not much vitality left, as I’m just a tiny poor creature!"
"Forget it," Jesse said. "I’m too tired today. Let’s talk about this another time."
Imp finally heaved a sigh of relief and vanished into the bag amidst a burst of Arcane light.
Lying in bed, Jesse was glad that he didn’t just start smoking without thinking.
What if some fel magic gets into his body? What should he do then?
If the fel magic harms his body, how will he explain it if he needs to seek help? Maybe he should take the opportunity to practice with some animals outside the city, just like Gakin used to do.
There’s just so much to do! It’s giving him a headache just thinking about it.
He has to make a mage robe, prepare for the Orcish language exam, attend the warlock meeting, and keep training with his sword once Greed recovers in a few days.
But if he wants to get stronger, he needs to seize every opportunity to improve and not waste any time.
Thinking back to his lazy life in his previous world, where he slacked off at work and at home every day, he never expected to feel so motivated in this new world.
After all, in Azeroth, if you don’t find ways to get stronger, you could really end up in trouble.
Recently, he has acquired some valuable items, like the most beautiful and precious Naga scales. If he can sell each of them for more than 5 silver each, that would amount to dozens of silver coins. The necklace, according to the merchant, could fetch 40 silver coins. Although reluctant, Jesse thinks that the necklace might have some strange Naga magic that attracts people, so he should sell it.
This kind of dirty thing placed beside would eventually be a trouble, but the silver coin is clean.
Plus, that Orc order… wants to sell it to an antique dealer, if can sell for a few gold coins… really almost enough to buy a toilet.
From the moment he made up his mind to earn money in Stormwind to buy a house for his parents, it’s been just over a month.
Although he can’t expect to find something as valuable as that order every month, but that’s the benefit of improving his own strength.
Without enough strength, even if luck comes, you can’t grasp it.
Now, he thinks of making money as dozens of silver coins, dozens of silver coins. At first, he had to risk everything even for two silver coins.
In the future, if he advances further, such as becoming an apprentice mage, or going further on the path of a warlock, getting his body stronger, able to handle more dangerous situations, he will definitely earn more money.
The disaster of The Scourge Legion is still more than a decade away, as long as he is patient, as long as…
Thinking of this, he felt several times this month he was on the brink of death, yet without taking risks, there can be no improvement. Today at Gakin’s place, Erlan pushed him hard against the wall to disrupt his spell, when he fought back with all his strength, he felt dealing with Erlan was no longer as difficult as the first time they went to The Slaughtered Lamb basement.
