Chapter 97: How Many Ginseng?

Never follow their way of thinking because you can’t fully understand it.

Even though Lin Lin had warned herself many times, she still couldn’t stay calm because the thoughts of everyone at Demon King Castle were too shocking.

What left Lin Lin speechless was that after their last conversation, the Demon King seemed to realize that Lin Lin had not become an undead accountant or a Blood Clan member; she was quite happy with who she was now.

Even though the light-type magic influence and the contract with the Demon King naturally slowed Lin Lin’s growth, it would not truly be a powerful agent.

Your Majesty the Demon King began searching for books on how to professionally raise humans.

Lin Lin was really scared he would try to make some kind of immortality potion next.

In the morning, Lin Lin saw the latest news about the church in the newspaper delivered by the morning wind slime.

"Big News! The statues of the God of Light in three major cities have all gone bald overnight! What kind of force is so low to do this?" Lin Lin read the headline of the newspaper with a blank expression.

After finishing the headline, she looked at the person eating breakfast with her.

The Dark Elf lowered his head to avoid eye contact, while Your Majesty the Demon King raised his chin high, showing a bright smile.

How nice! Just a glance is enough to know who did this bad deed.

Lin Lin’s gaze fell on the bald statue of the God of Light… Hmm, the skull of the God of Light is quite round.

Lin Lin continued to read the newspaper and indeed saw the church officials’ accusations against Demon King Castle. However, they did not believe that the people from Demon King Castle actually did it. They thought that the young people’s recent obsession with the trendy brand "Demon King Castle" had polluted their views, leading them to do anything for attention, and claimed it was a great insult to the church.

The report also stated that the officials advised parents to avoid buying "Demon King Castle" products for their children.

What! Cutting off my source of income?

Lin Lin’s originally calm expression became serious.

Although he was looking down, Felix kept watching Lin Lin’s face in secret. After she looked at him, Felix raised his head and gave up.

Felix pushed the vegetable salad on his plate away and started to slack off. He hadn’t finished this small bowl either.

"I made it, so what," Felix said. "Don’t those old men have any responsibility for driving you out?"

Unlike Felix’s way of thinking, Lin Lin calmly replied, "Anyway, it’s not your fault now."

Felix: ?

Lin Lin, "Your actions have affected the sales of ‘Demon King Castle’ products. Go find someone to blame, like those crazy followers who can’t get the love of the God of Light and have started to lose their minds because they never hear the God’s messages."

The Dark Elf’s slightly furrowed brow relaxed, and the young man let out a cheerful laugh, "What? That’s easy."

"In Lin’s heart, there is only money," Your Majesty the Demon King said with a worried expression, "Please don’t end up like Safir, that miser."

"I will tell him what you think of him," Lin Lin took a sip of soup.

The Demon King put away his recent worries; he subtly sensed what made Lin Lin angry. Although they often upset her, there were clear limits.

First is money.

Second is life.

This is related to her lack of faith, so she didn’t care if the God of Light statue was bald.

"What is this?" Lin Lin nearly spat out her sip of soup.

"It’s a ginseng that is five hundred years old," the Demon King replied with a smile, looking as if he wanted praise, "It’s very good for humans. I learned it from a book."

Is ginseng supposed to taste like this normally?

Lin Lin paused, "How much ginseng did you put in?"

Demon King, "…Ten?"

Lin Lin slowly closed her eyes, feeling her throat starting to get hot.

No, I can’t get angry; being hot-headed will make it worse.

–

Recently, there hasn’t been much financial work, and the little flowers Lin Lin is raising have begun to sprout some buds.

Aside from Chomper, who was forced to be removed after being stained with Demon King’s blood, the rest are growing very well.

Lin Lin felt a sense of achievement as she watered the flowers, while Orion followed behind, filled with great worry.

During the planting process in the flower field, the only thing the esteemed accounting lady did was water them irregularly, making the undead knight very worried that the flowers, which were easy to care for, might be killed by her overwatering.

Orion originally thought that taking care of flowers only required him to fertilize and weed them, but now he also has to find a way to absorb extra water after Lin Lin waters them.

The amount of work suddenly increased.

Spotting Orion’s figure, Lin Lin turned around and smiled at him, "I remembered to water the plants today too!"

It was the expression of someone who worked hard and hoped for the other person’s approval.

Seeing the lady’s cheerful smile, the Death Knight, wrapped in heavy armor, added another pot of water for Lin Lin and said, "Go ahead, water it."

Water freely.

Great! Lin Lin put her hands on her hips; today was another day where she made a big impact!

After watering, Lin Lin returned to her office to continue working.

If there were no extra tasks caused by others, the finance office was quite relaxed in the middle of the month. Lin Lin sorted out the previous documents and then started to brew flower tea.

The winter at the Demon King Castle was very cold. The fireplace crackled with burning wood. Lin Lin covered her knees with a thick wool blanket, listening to the bubbling water on the stove.

Lin Lin held her cup of tea, blowing away the warm steam rising from the rim.

After that, she did not stay quiet for long before someone knocked on the door.

Dressed warmly for winter with a blanket over her legs, Lin Lin was too lazy to get up and said, "The door is not closed."

The door opened, revealing the bright smile of Your Majesty the Demon King.

When Lin Lin saw the small bottle he was holding, a sense of foreboding washed over her.

Too nourishing! She had been eating too richly lately.

Ever since the Demon King started studying how to raise humans according to the textbooks, her once safe life had been forced into hardship.

It included all kinds of strange foods, various odd potions, and being made to exercise regularly and maintain a good routine.

It was too perfect! No one would feel happy living such a perfect life!

Your Majesty the Demon King entered the room, closed the door, and hung the thick cloak on the coat rack by the door.

"Your room is even warmer," Your Majesty the Demon King fanned his face, feeling the warmth in the air.

"Because I have a cold body," Lin Lin sincerely answered.

This statement piqued the Demon King’s curiosity; he tilted his head, and his curly black hair spilled over his white shirt.

Lin Lin noticed that each person in this group had a similar style of dressing; she had no doubt that once the wardrobe was opened, there would be eight hundred identical shirts.

"Well, being cold-bodied means that my hands and feet are colder than the rest of me."

"Is ginseng not helpful?" Your Majesty the Demon King was surprised.

"The ginseng soup made my throat hoarse all day," Lin Lin answered about the effect of ginseng.

The Demon King came to Lin Lin’s side and casually placed the small bottle he was holding on Lin Lin’s desk.

Lin Lin was drawn to the translucent little bottle, which held a tiny amount of liquid. The deep blue liquid inside shimmered with gold, looking almost like a single drop.

When she felt someone hold her hands, Lin Lin turned around and saw the Demon King kneeling before her on one knee.

Even though the ground was covered with a thick carpet, Lin Lin still thought that Your Majesty the Demon King sometimes looked too relaxed. Didn’t his knees hurt?

The Demon King’s hand was much larger than Lin Lin’s, allowing him to easily hold her hand.

He covered Lin Lin’s hands for a while but realized they were getting colder in his grip.

"…it’s not working," the Demon King said as he released Lin Lin’s hand.

"It’s because your hands are colder than mine. The demon race is like that, right? Although their blood is warmer than ours," Lin Lin guessed. "Is it because the skin is insulating? So, the skin feels a bit cold on the outside?"

Lin Lin placed her hand on the side of the Demon King’s neck, fingers moving to touch the area where blood pulsed through the veins.

As she thought, the temperature was noticeably warmer where the blood vessels were, but the surface of the skin in other areas felt a few degrees cooler.

The Demon King felt a bit itchy from her touch. He shook his head, and besides his long hair moving, it didn’t do anything.

Finally, he couldn’t help but laugh as he buried his head in the warm blanket on Lin Lin’s lap, avoiding her hand, "No, you can’t touch there; it makes me laugh."

"…What a strange sensitive spot," Lin Lin pulled her hand back, "Is it that if you are touched, you will laugh? That seems like an easy way to be pranked!"

Lin Lin remembered her childhood in human society. Even without a ticklish spot on the neck, friends would sneakily put their cold hands on each other in winter to give a fright.

"No one would touch the Demon King’s neck," Your Majesty the Demon King said, with his face buried in the blanket, making a muffled sound.

Lin Lin’s hand moved through the Demon King’s dark long hair, helping to smooth it out.

It seemed that every race found it hard to resist a head pat.

The young man relaxed completely, resting his shoulder on Lin Lin’s lap. With such a large frame, even gentle movements still felt heavy.

The Demon King stayed quiet for a few minutes, while Lin Lin gently stroked his long hair for a few minutes.

The Demon King, realizing it was hard to breathe with his head buried in the blanket, turned his face, and Lin Lin looked down to see his sharp eyebrows and eyes.

The young man had long black eyelashes, and his violet eyes appeared bright in the light.

Lin Lin didn’t know what he was thinking.

"Lin," the Demon King spoke.

"Hmm?" Lin Lin looked down and replied to him.

"Human wizards can live to be two hundred years old," the Demon King said.

"That means he lived a long time," Lin Lin replied.

"But two hundred years is still too short," the Demon King said.

It was strange; Lin Lin thought he cared quite a bit about his life, but he didn’t expect that the ones who first started to panic about the future were the longer-lived creatures in Demon King Castle.

Moreover, it is without reason, a countdown engraved in her heart, as if feeling happy today makes her fear whether this happiness will disappear tomorrow.

There is anxiety without any basis; just thinking about it makes her feel lost.

At this moment, Lin Lin didn’t know what to say, "Actually, it’s okay because my soul belongs to you too."

Lin Lin had seen the actions of that orca who helped the devil collect souls; he would even urge the City Lord’s death, as souls were the most valuable to him.

At this time, His Majesty the Demon King, who once swore that Lin Lin belonged to him because Lin Lin’s soul was his, became silent.

Lin Lin’s words received no response; she gently touched the Demon King’s face with her fingertips.

Still, there was no response.

Lin Lin firmly turned the young man’s face so he had to look up at her.

"I’m not being nice to you so you won’t be sad in the future," Lin Lin said, "I’m speaking to you, smiling at you, and telling you what I think so that you feel happy now."

Lin Lin looked down, staring at him without blinking.

Then she saw Your Majesty the Demon King’s avoiding gaze.

"We have discussed this…" the Demon King said softly.

As soon as he spoke, Lin Lin knew trouble was coming.

Lin Lin didn’t want to know who "we" really included, but it was probably those awful people.

"If your life is in danger, it will turn you into a Blood Clan."

Lin Lin: …

The Demon King said, "Don’t worry, once we turn you and then kill Damonis, you won’t have to call him father."

Lin Lin: …

I always feel that this group of guys is even scarier. What are you all, bad people who manipulate the lives of others, sighing about?

Lin Lin grabbed the Demon King’s horn, trying to twist his neck, "You didn’t understand a single word I said…"

The Demon King shouted in pain, trying to back away.

Lin Lin finally let go of his horn and reached for the small bottle that the Demon King had put in her office at the beginning.

"What is this?" The metallic liquid shook slightly in the bottle because of Lin Lin’s movement.

"This," the Demon King said, seeing Lin Lin’s frown, and leaned closer with a big smile, "is the blood of the Dragon race."

Even though Lin Lin was somewhat prepared, the moment she heard the answer, her head throbbed with pain.

Why, why did she have to endure this suffering?

"I read that many humans think dragon blood can make the body strong, and kings send knights to kill dragons just to drink its blood," the Demon King smiled brightly, "though the effects haven’t been proven yet, you could directly get dragon blood and try it out to see if it works."

"You mean the tyrant in history," Lin Lin no longer wanted to complain, "I am an accountant, not a king!"

Lin Lin’s finger spun the bottle, and the deep blue liquid inside swirled along with it.

The deep blue dragon’s blood.

Lin Lin uttered a name, "Safir?"

The Demon King nodded.

It’s over. Lin Lin’s expression was cold.

The only brain in the Demon King Castle was gone.
