Chapter 69: Sorry

After realizing the boy was someone who had sold his soul to the devil, Lin Lin was slightly stunned.

After all, in Lin Lin’s eyes, this boy was completely different from the person she imagined who would make a deal with the devil.

Lin Lin thought that most people who made deals with the devil were those who were at the end of their rope.

The boy did not seem to be filled with sadness or anger; in fact, he appeared much calmer than the City Lord.

The boy seemed to have no intention of hiding anything from Lin Lin. After noticing her confusion, he raised his long eyelashes and said, "So, sister, you really sold your soul to the devil? I must have seen that correctly."

Since he didn’t know Lin Lin’s name, he referred to her as "sister." It felt very natural, and he did not show much awkwardness like many boys his age would when saying it.

"Uh, I am," Lin Lin admitted.

The boy smiled a little; he was fully confident in his judgment and did not think he was wrong.

"Actually, it’s not just my soul," the boy pointed to his black eyes, then rolled up his left sleeve to show Lin Lin his metallic arm that gleamed with a cool sheen. "My eyes, my left arm, and my leg bones were all used to make a deal with the devil."

…Boy, you have technology that is years ahead of this world.

Lin Lin felt dazed.

Although she knew that the power source for this mechanical arm was likely magic, she still felt a shock from the invasion of modern technology.

"Oh, it’s a bit scary, right?" The boy pulled down his sleeve to prevent Lin Lin from dazing out too long.

"No," Lin Lin said firmly, "I now trust your skill level completely."

The boy looked surprised.

According to the boy, his name was Caligo, and he was a contracted worker for the Demon King Castle. If there were some messy tasks, they could be given to him.

"I will do my best," Caligo said calmly, "You are a subordinate of the Demon King Castle, so you have that right too."

In that moment, Lin Lin felt that she had indeed become an accomplice to the demon, and she gained a privilege among her fellow humans.

Lin Lin felt even more embarrassed to urge the matter of the teleportation circle.

In the small room, the flames were still burning. Lin Lin finally stood up, moving away from the heat of the fire, and decided to walk around a long table filled with things.

It was clear that Caligo had learned a lot of different subjects, like astronomy, biology, magic circles, and even some art and physics.

Lin Lin saw a light purple hourglass on the long table, about the size of her hand, slowly working.

Lin Lin noticed it was glowing.

The gentle white light looked a bit like the holy glow of a light-type spell.

Lin Lin reached out and touched it lightly, and as soon as she did, she saw the sand in the hourglass start to flow faster.

The entire room began to shake.

Lin Lin realized why Caligo’s house was so small; it was made entirely of magic.

"Please do not turn the hourglass upside down," Caligo said calmly; the boy probably wasn’t new to customers wanting to touch things. "Please turn it back to its original direction."

"I didn’t turn it upside down, I touched it, and it flowed faster," Lin Lin added.

"Oh?" Caligo lifted his head from the pile of books and strode over.

Lin Lin remembered him saying that both of his leg bones were traded with demons, but at least for now, he still looked healthy and his legs were very agile.

Confirming what Lin Lin said was true, Caligo reached out his hand, and the magic wand flew from the corner straight into his palm. He gently sensed the hourglass with the magic wand from a distance.

The shaking of the house stopped, and the hourglass returned to normal.

Outside, the hooting of an owl and the sound of wings flapping against the window could be heard.

"Don’t shout! There’s nothing unusual!" Caligo shouted to the anxious owl outside.

Then, the magic wand flew back to its original place, and the red-haired boy with a ponytail looked at Lin Lin again, speaking in a strange tone, "You are truly an important person."

Lin Lin felt uneasy under his gaze; it was rare for a boy his age to have such sharp eyes.

"Moon Elf’s earrings, a devil’s deal, a witch’s bracelet…" Caligo’s gaze swept over those suspicious places, "and… a human cherished by time and space magic."

Caligo’s words reminded Lin Lin of something; she took out a hairpin from her pocket, the one given to her by the orca Bulwo, which she had influenced in a world created by magic.

When Caligo saw the hairpin in Lin Lin’s palm, his eyes immediately lit up, but his dark pupils reflected no one.

"You don’t need to tell me; let me guess!" Caligo picked up the hairpin from Lin Lin’s hand, checking it against the light glow of the hourglass. "This is a time-traveling hairpin, even though it looks so fragile."

He was quite fond of the hairpin, "Can you give it to me? I’m sure I can use it to discover something interesting."

Lin Lin nodded, as the hairpin was of no use to her.

She realized now that the young man before her was purely practical; he believed in neither the God of Light nor the devil, only in the value he created.

Therefore, this boy, who had learned many things, seemed to be someone who could analyze without being limited by a viewpoint.

"Is there really a spell to go back to the past?" Lin Lin asked.

"There is," Caligo replied, still turning the hairpin, "There are historical records that a mage once sent their wand a hundred years ago, and after it was sent, it was found buried less than twenty meters underground, still showing signs of use from other mages."

Lin Lin showed a look of surprise; the hairpin seemed less precious than she had imagined.

"As for living things, we don’t know," Caligo said, his fiery eyes looking at Lin Lin, "Currently, there are no successful cases in the books."

"If I successfully go back to the past…" Lin Lin said softly.

Caligo understood her thoughts and nodded, "You’re right; if someone really succeeded in going back, they would likely hide their face and name, keeping the spell a secret for their own use."

After all, the influence and temptation of that power are enormous.

"If you really discover something from the hairpin, share it with me," Lin Lin left Caligo her office phone number.

Caligo held the small piece of paper with a strange expression.

Lin Lin thought the boy didn’t want to share his findings, but he looked at her face with sparkling eyes, then at the paper in his hand, "Did you really just leave your contact information like this? Isn’t that a bit reckless?"

What kind of scary monsters do you think the people in Demon King Castle are?

Lin Lin once again felt the curiosity and caution of the boy, who was also human, towards her as a "big person."

His curiosity was really strong.

"First, I need to emphasize that I am not a fighter," Lin Lin said, patting Caligo’s shoulder, "I am a clerk."

When Lin Lin touched Caligo, he instinctively made a small movement to pull away, but he held back. Because it was the touch of a big person.

"And," Lin Lin said, "I am not a mysterious character; I am an accountant."

After Lin Lin said the word "accountant," the light in Caligo’s eyes did not fade away.

He said in a calm and natural tone, "Besides this, you also excel in accounting? Sister, you are really amazing."

I have to admit it.

Lin Lin tried hard to hold back her smiling lips, but in the end, she failed.

Lin Lin had to admit that she was starting to like this young man.

–

Unlike Your Majesty the Demon King, who easily used the teleportation array, Caligo had to choose the right place, formation, and time.

Lin Lin subtly felt that if Caligo was Safir’s apprentice, that dragon should be very happy.

Eager to learn, diligent in work, and very humble.

Fortunately, Caligo’s magic array was much steadier than his carriage, and Lin Lin didn’t feel too much discomfort as she was transported to the demon realm.

Then, standing in the cold night wind, Lin Lin realized something.

She had not told the people at Demon King Castle that she was coming back.

Last time she did not tell him, because Safir was the type who liked to control everything. Safir had everything planned out.

This time, since the orcas were also unsure about when she would return to the Demon King Castle, they did not make any plans, and she also forgot.

Lin Lin held her suitcase, wondering when His Majesty the Demon King would sense her.

Lin Lin learned from Felix that the Demon King’s senses did not precisely know where everyone was, but rather vaguely knew where there were living beings.

As for that time when Lin Lin and Felix returned, it was because the Demon King was already prepared for their arrival, so he focused his energy on sensing if any humans or Dark Elves entered the demon realm, filtering through a series of information.

Lin Lin dragged her suitcase toward the forest; the outer ring of the Demon King Castle was the forest, which had many strange magical creatures and was one of the places the orca brothers imported snacks from.

Lin Lin walked a little while and reached the forest of the Demon King Castle.

Just getting close, she could hear the low roars of various giant magical creatures in the forest.

The Demon King did not intentionally cultivate or eliminate these magical creatures; they were the first line of defense against the brave warriors who entered the demon realm to attack the Demon King Castle.

The terrifying roar of the beast did not stop Lin Lin from stepping into the forest.

As she stepped into the dark forest, she smelled the strong scent of blood.

A huge black bear monster was eating an Abyssal Wild Boar.

Lin Lin looked up at the black bear.

The black bear monster had sharp teeth, a massive body, and its red eyes were especially frightening in the dark.

If Sharon were there, she could find the bear’s species, its dangerous level, and scary legends in the textbook "Encyclopedia of Dangerous Monsters."

The black bear opened its mouth and let out a roar.

Because of the Demon King Imprint, Lin Lin could understand its roar.

"Good evening, adult," the black bear said.

Lin Lin nodded slightly.

"Sir, do you need help with your suitcase?" the black bear asked again.

Lin Lin shook her head, "No, thank you. You are eating, and your hands are dirty."

Lin Lin pointed ahead, "Is the way back to the Demon King Castle this direction?"

The black bear nodded.

Lin Lin continued to walk forward.

One by one, giant eagles, deer, tigers, and leopards appeared.

[Good evening, sir.]

[Sir, you have worked hard on your trip.]

[Do you want to eat something, adult?]

"Wait, a leopard?" Lin Lin’s eyes sparkled.

I just let that stag go because it was too tall and not easy to ride.

But this sleek and well-built leopard looks like it could be ridden.

Lin Lin rode the leopard back to the entrance of Demon King Castle.

Standing at the entrance was Your Majesty the Demon King.

The leopard set down the suitcase it had been holding in its mouth, resting its forehead on the ground to bow to the Demon King.

Lin Lin jumped down from the leopard’s back.

The Demon King glanced at Lin Lin and asked, "What happened to the Death Knight? Didn’t he come to get you?"

Lin Lin thought for a moment if she knew this person. The only one related to knights seemed to be that guy with the head and body separated.

Lin Lin, "If he doesn’t lead, won’t he find me?"
