Chapter 95: Another Angel Looks Up

If it weren’t for the church of the God of Light next door, Lin Lin would think she was being scammed.

After all, not everyone meets a kindly old man dressed as a priest while shopping, asking about their age, race, and family.

Wait a minute, with her rich life experience, Lin Lin glanced at the big cathedral; just because this old man appeared next to the church doesn’t mean he is really a priest!

Many scammers take advantage of this kind of thinking and boldly cheat in proper places!

When the old man with a very kind face came to talk, Lin Lin’s sense of caution was at an all-time high.

She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but Lin Lin felt like the old man’s gaze was always on her face. Although she thought she looked quite nice, in this world with many races and standards of beauty, it felt odd to be constantly stared at.

When the old man looked at Lin Lin’s face for the fourth time, she couldn’t help but ask, "Is there something wrong with my face?"

Or did she catch something strange from the Demon King Castle, something odd on her face?

After Lin Lin asked this question, the elderly man with a beard did not seem embarrassed at all.

Although he was quite old, the old man’s eyes were very clear. He looked at Lin Lin with a kind expression and said, "I’m sorry, it’s the first time I’ve seen a half-human favored by the God of Light, and I couldn’t help myself for a moment."

Me? Lin Lin had finished her milk tea and threw the cup in the trash can.

Lin Lin looked left and right, then stared at her hands, flipping them over, but couldn’t see anything different from usual.

Are your eyes getting old? Lin Lin meant to ask this, but her politeness wouldn’t let her say such a rude question.

"May I ask how I am favored by the God of Light?" Lin Lin inquired, having confirmed once more that the old man in front of her was a fraud.

What family would the God of Light favor an employee from the Demon King Castle? If He can’t even tell that, He shouldn’t be called the God of Light.

The old man focused his gaze on Lin Lin once again.

He appeared calm, but deep down, this priest was very shaken.

When he said that Lin Lin was the most favored half-human he had ever seen by the God of Light, it was actually a way to flatter himself and the people in the town. After all, who doesn’t know that the God of Light favors humans the most, followed by other races?

The half-human woman in front of him, with her face, flowing long hair, and pure white hands, was surrounded by tiny light-type particles. These particles clung to her like stubborn gum, completely different from the holy and calm appearance he was used to seeing.

Only highly qualified clergy can notice the light-type particles. In truth, the particles do not have much use. It doesn’t mean that more light-type particles make someone stronger; it simply means that people surrounded by more particles are more likely to have a talent for learning light-type spells and may hear the will of the gods.

Therefore, when it comes to promotions among clergy, how attractive they are to light-type particles will also be considered, along with their abilities and character.

At that moment, the concentration of light-type particles around Lin Lin was even greater than that of the highest-ranked clergy member the old man had ever seen, the assistant to a big bishop.

What was even stranger was that these holy, bright particles did not surround her like fireflies, giving a sense of dignity and tranquility. Instead, they crowded around the woman’s long hair and around her dress, appearing to cling as close as possible, as if they feared being pushed back by other particles and losing their advantageous position.

The old man rubbed his forehead, realizing he was getting old; he was seeing emotions in particles, truly a sign of age.

"You have the bright energy given by the God of Light surrounding you," the old man explained to Lin Lin. He could not directly say what he saw, still doubting whether it was his eyes playing tricks on him rather than an issue with the light particles.

She was a fraud, Lin Lin was absolutely certain.

"Though your words are nice to hear," Lin Lin replied, "I won’t believe you because I cannot use Light Spell."

Lin Lin looked at the surprised expression of the other person and thought that the old man was trying to trick her because of the light-type magic wand she was carrying.

However, the other person could not have guessed that the one holding the light-type magic wand could not use the Light Spell.

Lin Lin believed she had achieved the perfect victory and was about to leave gracefully.

Unexpectedly, just as she was leaving, the old man reached out and grabbed her arm.

Unlike most old people, this man was quite strong; although he looked thin, he had a powerful aura that seemed to come from within.

This aura made Lin Lin pause for a moment, and then she, holding the novel she had bought, was pulled into the God of Light church by the old man.

Lin Lin had not been very lucky before, as the God of Light churches she had seen were mostly ruined and abandoned, but this time she saw a real, popular church in use.

After entering, the old man released his dry grip on Lin Lin’s arm, and Lin Lin stared ahead, still in shock.

There were many people! Most of them whispered in hushed tones, showing a devout appearance. At the door, young monks and nuns lowered their heads respectfully when they saw the old man, "Father."

Lin Lin: …He is real.

Lin Lin began to act respectfully, glancing at how others folded their hands in prayer, and she did the same.

It felt like strangers in the same elevator suddenly started counting, and even though you were confused, in that atmosphere, you couldn’t help but join in the counting.

Fortunately, the God of Light church was not as mysterious as Lin Lin had imagined; the elderly priest took her into the inner area.

To match the characteristics of the God of Light, the buildings had large windows, allowing sunlight to stream in freely.

The priest led Lin Lin into a smaller, more solemn room.

The room was extremely simple, with just a wooden table holding a floating light orb that gently shimmered. The orb was translucent, constantly flashing soft, light colors: red, yellow, purple… all colors were included within it.

This is a magic orb used to test children’s abilities.

Even though the children who came here to be tested hoped to enter the sanctuary, kids with magical powers were already very rare, and those with the power of light were even fewer, so children with magic would mostly be nurtured. However, those with weaker abilities might fail the test and return to a normal life.

Lin Lin had clearly missed the best time for training, but according to the priest’s understanding, if she truly was a light-type mage, then the Light Spell should be as easy for her as breathing.

The Light Spell is the most basic light-type spell, and mages of other types can also use it to create light for illumination.

"Bring your palm close to it," the priest moved a little further away from the floating sphere and stood behind Lin Lin to avoid affecting the test results with his magic.

The moment Lin Lin’s palm approached the magic sphere, the transparent orb began to emit a faint glow.

The priest smiled, "This is quite a standard performance for a light-type mage."

As Lin Lin’s palm got close to the magic sphere, she could feel a thread of energy naturally being drawn away and merging into the translucent magic sphere.

The colors began to change.

For some reason, Lin Lin thought of times in modern society when she played mobile games and could never draw an SSR card, feeling as if she were destined to have bad luck.

But this time, when the magic sphere finally stopped changing and stabilized in a certain state, Lin Lin was quite sure she had drawn a rare one.

Lin Lin gazed at the magic ball for a long time.

As if sensing something unusual in Lin Lin’s quietness, the priest standing behind her spoke gently, "Most people are not purely light-type, so a completely white glow doesn’t happen. As long as you shine, it can be considered light-type, whether the light inside is green or blue."

Lin Lin looked up at the magic ball and stepped to the left so she wouldn’t block the priest’s view of it. "Is that so? Even that counts as light-type?"

Lin Lin felt that something was not quite right.

The priest’s calm smile, always in control, froze when he saw the color of the magic ball.

A colorful shade of black.

A rather chaotic color, with shattered hues contained within, reflecting a rich variety of colors.

The old man with a grizzled beard widened his eyes. He pushed past Lin Lin to stand in front of the magic ball.

From behind, one could see the tremble of the old man’s hands.

Although the priest did not say a word, Lin Lin felt as if she could hear his inner scream.

The priest lifted the magic ball with both hands and whispered words until the darkness faded away and the magic ball became semi-transparent again.

The old man sighed with relief and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

He turned to look at Lin Lin again, his expression was complicated.

Lin Lin gave him an awkward smile and said, "So what kind of attribute do I have?"

The priest urged her to leave quickly, "Anyway, it’s not a light-type!"

You changed your words, huh! You’ve taken on quite a powerful face!

Lin Lin started to regret finishing that cup of milk tea in one go; she could have shown off her strong moral character when facing danger.

The lively town buzzed with activity; around the church, people were busy praying or going about their lives, unaware of the towering roof with a pair of golden short boots lightly stepping on top.

The gray wings hung down naturally, and the six feathers shimmered gently in the sunlight.

The angel with light golden hair looked up at the sky, confirming that some power from the God of Light was focused here.

The god showed little interest in this vast world; most of the time, the God of Light allowed the angels to act as His messengers, exercising His power.

And those who were not noticed by the god, like the free power at the end of His pure white robe, naturally flowed through the air, becoming the strength that guided the angels in the human realm.

The light gray wings flapped, and the mist-like power spread out naturally, restoring the earlier calm.

An angel who was originally in another part of the world, slaughtering monsters infected by chaos, slowly looked up.

Blood stained his sculpted, handsome, and cold face, and his light golden eyes gazed towards the church.

A wizard sensed the angel’s distraction; he saw a gigantic sandworm, towering two stories high, open its tooth-filled mouth behind the angel.

The wizard waved his magic wand, but before his spell could take effect, the emotionless angel had already thrust his staff backward, piercing the hard shell of the sandworm.

The pure white wings blocked the poisonous purple blood of the sandworm.

The angel was very sure that he felt "deceit" from his fellow beings.
