Chapter 83: Angels Are Messengers of the God of Light
Lin Lin received a new magic wand that suited her better, and she walked more confidently in Demon King Castle.
The spell that reminded everyone of embarrassing events was strongly requested to be banned by the creatures; they would rather use [Amnesia] in exchange.
After trying, Lin Lin found that the [Amnesia] spell did not work.
"Because your belief about ‘amnesia’ is not strong, or your feelings are not intense enough," the true inventor of many strange spells, Your Majesty the Demon King, advised Lin Lin.
Lin Lin thought to herself, which means her desire to make someone slip on a banana peel and feel embarrassed is very strong.
Perhaps it’s because she is indeed influenced by "embarrassment."
Lin Lin received a reply from mage Caligo.
The young wizard seemed busy as usual; it looked like he had done a lot lately and only remembered Lin Lin’s letter in the midst of his work, so his reply was very short.
[I need to go to another city in a few days to change my legs. If you still have troubles with spells, you can wear this necklace and come to the teleportation circle to find me today.]
Lin Lin took out a golden, hollow owl necklace from the envelope.
Now that Lin Lin had awakened her magic, she could see the faint black mist that was coming from the owl.
Lin Lin once again confirmed that Caligo had made a deal with the demon race, after all, the Demon King also had this black mist effect when using spells.
Caligo needs to change his legs. Even though Lin Lin knows his leg bones were used to make a deal with the devil, she is still surprised by this statement.
The last time Lin Lin saw Caligo, he looked very healthy; she didn’t expect that his legs needed constant adjustments.
That sounds quite scary.
Lin Lin didn’t hesitate; after all, she had so many days of vacation left. She certainly had to go find Caligo to ask about the situation, and Caligo’s knowledge was all over the place, so he might be able to help Lin Lin solve her problem with the Light Spell not working.
Lin Lin received the letter in the evening, and Caligo asked her to go to the teleportation circle today to visit him.
Although time was a bit tight, considering Caligo was originally an unconventional person, Lin Lin understood.
Putting on her owl necklace, leaving a note on the table that she would be out for a few days, Lin Lin took her magic wand, put on a thick coat, and set off.
Lin Lin’s recent habit of wandering around at night with her magic wand was so common that even the creatures would go out of their way to avoid her, fearing that this accountant might accidentally hurt them while practicing her spells.
Before leaving, Lin Lin walked through the long corridor with statues standing on both sides.
The Fallen Angel Stone Statue appeared before her once again.
The day after Lin Lin’s magic awakened, she returned to carefully examine the statue and saw no problems; she felt nothing when her hand grasped the staff again.
Later, Lin Lin could not remember how her hand, which was tightly gripping the Fallen Angel’s staff without her control, finally let go.
Was it her instinct to survive that made her release her grip?
Since this world was already strange enough, Lin Lin was able to brush off odd occurrences; she had more important things to attend to.
As Lin Lin continued to walk forward, leaving the Fallen Angel Stone Statue behind her.
The Fallen Angel, with tightly closed eyes, slowly opened them, and golden pupils emitted a soft glow in the darkness.
The Fallen Angel calmly watched the back of the woman holding the light-type magic wand as she left.
Angels do not grant humans the right to power, but the Fallen Angel was very aware that this woman’s awakening of power came from her touch.
The angel is a messenger of the God of Light and also a part of Him.
This woman’s strength is very much in harmony with the God of Light.
–
The wind outside the Demon King Castle is quite strong.
Lin Lin wrapped her clothes tightly but could still feel the cold wind sneaking in through her collar.
Unlike Lin Lin, the creatures in the forest seemed very well adapted to the harsh cold, and they kindly asked if she needed help even after she showed up.
"Thank you, but no need," Lin Lin waved off the helpful ones and walked towards the teleportation circle.
Caligo’s teleportation circle is located in a more remote area, probably for the safety of the Demon King Castle.
After sneezing twice, Lin Lin began to rub her hands together vigorously.
Tonight, I will learn the spell to make myself warm!
In the dark forest, the owls are watching over the teleportation circle to keep it safe from harm or for maintenance.
As Lin Lin approached the teleportation circle, the owls’ hooting grew louder.
Some flapped their wings and took off, while others turned their heads to watch Lin Lin.
Once Lin Lin stepped completely into the teleportation circle, the owls fell silent, as if they were keeping watch over her surroundings.
The owl necklace around Lin Lin’s neck glowed brightly, and she felt the dizzying sensation of teleportation again after a long time.
This time, the experience was worse than before; Lin Lin felt her body being pulled and stretched by the space around her, as if it might tear her apart.
Lin Lin stumbled and appeared in front of the magic circle at Caligo’s door, while the owl resting at the cabin’s entrance tapped on the big door with its beak, signaling Caligo that there was a guest.
The door swung open.
Lin Lin originally wanted to question Caligo about the teleportation experience, but she stopped herself when she saw the boy in the wheelchair.
The boy with different colored eyes had a calm expression; he turned his wheelchair to signal Lin Lin to come in.
The moment she entered, the cold disappeared, and the room felt like it was sweltering with heat.
Lin Lin took off her jacket and hung it on the hook behind the door.
The small room was still cramped, and there were even more books; Lin Lin noticed some keywords about "time," suggesting Caligo had been seriously studying the time-traveling hairpin.
"Sorry, I can’t move around well right now," Caligo said, "If you want water, you’ll have to get it yourself."
Lin Lin nodded and saw the hot water boiling on the stove.
"What happened to your leg?" Lin Lin asked Caligo.
The temperature in the air was at least thirty degrees, and even without her jacket, Lin Lin was still sweating, while Caligo, dressed in a shirt and thick wool sweater, seemed completely dry.
Even his legs, sitting in the wheelchair, were covered with a thick blanket.
Caligo took off the black robe of the mage; maybe it was because the robe was not suitable for sitting in a wheelchair, he looked more like a student now.
Like a student from a magical school, Lin Lin quietly thought.
"Oh, the energy in those leg bones has run out," Caligo looked down at his legs, "energy always runs out quickly in cold weather, so I hate winter."
Lin Lin hesitated, "You are going to a city like this? In a wheelchair?"
It seemed really dangerous.
"Yes," Caligo frowned slightly, "I have to take out these bones and replace them with new energy. It’s terrible because I’ve grown up, so my body uses energy faster and faster. It used to last a year and a half, then a year, and now I can’t even last ten months."
Lin Lin made a sound, thinking that Caligo was aware of how fast he was growing, so he looked a little smaller than he really was.
Lin Lin’s silence caught Caligo’s attention.
"I’m sorry," Caligo said, "my heavy legs make me feel uneasy."
Even though Caligo seemed restless, his voice remained calm and cold, making him look like an angry puppet, and Lin Lin watched him with some curiosity.
"It’s okay," Lin Lin immediately shook her head, "if my legs didn’t work, I would also feel unhappy."
The boy pushed the wheelchair to the table, and Lin Lin quickly followed him.
"This hairpin really traveled through time," Caligo said, taking out the hairpin that Lin Lin had given him last time, "and it is exactly like the successful cases recorded before, showing clear signs of use and magical energy."
"If it is exactly the same, does that mean someone is copying the past?" Lin Lin asked.
"Yes," Caligo answered, "and I believe he didn’t just copy one case; it’s just that this case with you happened to succeed."
Lin Lin frowned as she recalled the behavior of the killer whale brother, Bulwo; he really didn’t seem to be a quiet one.
"Actually, many people are trying to imitate this case, since traveling to the past is very appealing," Caligo looked at Lin Lin, his mismatched red and black eyes glimmering in the light like a cat’s eyes, "but successful cases are too few, and those after have concluded that the successful person’s condition was simply too special."
Lin Lin felt uneasy under Caligo’s gaze, especially knowing that this little troublemaker was someone who took bones away every year, "I might be a bit special, but I’m not sure."
The boy grinned, at that moment looking like a typical teenager, "To be honest, is the Demon King trying to find a way to travel back to the past? Does he want to change the war from two hundred years ago?"
Lin Lin: ?
Caligo was a focused person, completely lost in his own imagination, "That war was too cruel for the God of Darkness side. Some say the God of Darkness has actually vanished, and the Demon King can barely hold up the demon realm, so it’s not surprising that he wants to change the past."
"Sorry," Lin Lin interrupted Caligo’s daydream, "it has nothing to do with the Demon King. I just accidentally got caught up in another trouble."
Caligo’s excitement faded, and the boy quickly grasped the main point, "Does the Demon King know you have the ability to travel back in time?"
"It’s the hairpin that travels back in time, not me!" Lin Lin emphasized, "I just entered someone else’s memories!"
Caligo got his answer from her expression.
The red-haired boy slightly pressed his lips together, looking a bit impressed by Lin Lin and a bit worried about her future, "You are really amazing. If the Demon King finds out, you will definitely be wanted by the Demon King Castle."
Lin Lin imagined what it would be like to be wanted by the Demon King Castle, but she found it hard to picture.
"Don’t say that," Lin Lin asked, "what else did you find out?"
"About the crossing question you asked," Caligo glanced at Lin Lin. He had many guesses in his mind, but he didn’t have the courage to say them all at once in front of her, "because there are powerful cracks between different worlds. Considering the strength of the body and soul, the chance of successfully crossing just once is very low."
Lin Lin felt calm.
She had a vague idea of the answer, but she needed to ask someone else to feel reassured.
Caligo’s expression was a bit cautious.
"Or you could try to strengthen yourself?" Caligo said, "like I did by changing my body parts?"
Lin Lin said calmly, "And then sit in a wheelchair?"
Caligo silently covered his chest.
