Chapter 80: She Should Have Just Fallen Asleep and Never Woken Up
"If you indeed have extraordinary power, then you could hurt any one of us jerks."
Lin Lin was a bit dazed when she heard Orion say these words.
Lin Lin gradually realized that Orion was a true warrior who had experienced battle, and in their time, humans fought against monsters with their limited bodies.
Even against any officer in this Demon King Castle.
Orion was not as gentle and harmless as Lin Lin thought. He was the simplest kind, trained himself to be a warrior for peaceful living among humans and willing to lower himself to feed the monsters for the proper functioning of Demon King Castle.
Lin Lin looked down at Orion.
For some reason, when Lin Lin sat on the edge of the bed, Orion preferred to kneel slightly and look up at her.
This might come from his old-fashioned habits.
Although Lin Lin could not see Orion’s face, only seeing his closed helmet and the soft blue-green glow gently spreading from the helmet’s seams like a breath, she was not as afraid of him as before.
The monsters in scary stories do not kneel before her and tell her seriously that she needs to be strong to protect herself.
The nosebleed had stopped, so to prevent it from happening again, Lin Lin still had a wet towel on her forehead.
In fact, it was not just Lin Lin; Death Knights were indeed quite scary in the eyes of humans because they were related to them.
Most humans would never have anything to do with the demon race, Dragon race, or elves, but Death Knights were once humans who had fallen into underground creatures. This subtle feeling is somewhat like the uncanny valley effect; the more similar they are, the more fear they create.
Lin Lin stared at the frightening Death Knight, and she reached out slowly toward the helmet, which seemed a bit scary to her.
Lin Lin hoped that the helmet would not suddenly fall.
Luckily, it did not scare her; Lin Lin felt a bit of blue-green glow, which felt very strange, like a rush of cold snow sweeping past her fingers.
Lin Lin tried to make a fist, but of course, she could not catch the glowing light.
Orion seemed to chuckle softly at Lin Lin’s action.
Lin Lin was unsure, as she could not see Orion’s face; she only knew that Orion deliberately released a bit more glowing light, which poured out from the helmet like a lion’s mane. Even though he knew Lin Lin couldn’t hold onto anything, he still wanted to play along a little.
When Lin Lin took her hand away, the glow from the Death Knight dimmed.
After knowing that Lin Lin went out to find food, Orion quickly made a simple dish of cabbage, beef, and tofu, and let it cool before letting Lin Lin lift the lid.
Once the wet towel was finally removed, Lin Lin began to sip the soup.
The delicious and slightly spicy meat soup poured into the stomach, giving a reassuring feeling, while the tender tofu was sweet and delightful with just a few bites.
As her body became warm and comfortable again, Lin Lin was urged by Orion to lie back down in bed, and he turned off the bedroom light for her.
Lin Lin watched Orion walk to the door and said, "Good night."
Lin Lin spoke.
This phrase sounded a bit strange to Orion.
In fact, he did not sleep like humans do; he either rested underground for a while or, like now, did not need to rest for 24 hours.
Orion said, "Good night."
The light was turned off.
But the room remained bright.
The Death Knight’s ghostly green light lit up the room.
Lin Lin wanted to endure it, but even with her eyes closed, she could still feel the light shining through her thin eyelids.
Lin Lin had to open her eyes, "Sorry, you are glowing."
"Sorry," Orion stepped out of the bedroom, "Have a good dream."
–
Loud, very loud.
She had already gone to bed late last night, and then someone banged on her room door early in the morning.
"Come in," Lin Lin said.
The person knocking confidently walked in, as if the door lock had vanished in his hand.
Lin Lin, who already knew who the other person was, threw a pillow at him, "My vacation is only a few days! What are you doing!"
Your Majesty the Demon King easily caught the pillow, hugging it close. He quickly walked to Lin Lin’s bedside, "Are you hurt? Did you get hurt last night?"
Lin Lin, "It’s just a nosebleed. How did this ridiculous rumor start?"
After seeing Rock Slime follow the Demon King, Lin Lin understood where the rumor came from.
Slimes have their own circle of rumors.
"It’s just a nosebleed," Lin Lin said, looking at the Demon King. As he eagerly prepared to sit on her bed, Lin Lin disdainfully told him to get a cloth to sit on first.
"How can you do this…?" Your Majesty the Demon King said sadly as he went to get the cloth. "I never made you use a cloth when you were on my bed."
"I only went to your room once!" Lin Lin emphasized, "And you should be a gentleman. You can’t just bang on a girl’s door."
Your Majesty the Demon King widened his eyes, looking incredulous, "Of course I’m a gentleman! When you entered my room, you just walked in!"
"That is because you always do things that make people angry!" Lin Lin said.
The Demon King was very unconvinced, "When did I make anyone angry!"
Lin Lin said, "By slacking off. You always avoid work."
His Majesty the Demon King became more obedient. He knew he was very lacking in this area, but he did not want to change.
The Demon King showed a bright smile, "Let’s talk about your health first; I am really worried about you."
It was clearly a change of topic.
"Orion said my magical power has awakened," Lin Lin looked up at the Demon King, wanting to watch his reaction to this news, "it is light-type power."
Lin Lin did not plan to hide this; the Demon King was much better at using magic than she was, and he had countless ways to notice something was wrong with her.
When Lin Lin said this, she felt like a worker who had been in a job for many years receiving an acceptance letter from Hogwarts, lucky yet unable to feel as excited and passionate as a child would.
So, Lin Lin’s performance was very calm.
In sharp contrast to Lin Lin was Your Majesty the Demon King, who suddenly straightened his back and looked very serious, "Oh? You have a light-type physique."
Huh? Lin Lin was a bit hesitant.
Is it different from what Orion said? Does Demon King Castle really care about whether employees are loyal to the darkness? Is she going to be fired?
This can’t happen! If it’s calculated as N+1, she wouldn’t get much compensation at all!
Before she could finish her thoughts, Lin Lin heard Your Majesty the Demon King continue to speak.
"This is a good thing! Your physique makes up for the lack of light-type mages at Demon King Castle!"
No! There shouldn’t be any light-type mages in Demon King Castle in the first place! What do you mean by making up for a lack? What kind of childish thinking is that, like collecting instant noodle cards?
Your Majesty the Demon King suddenly stood up, startling Lin Lin.
The Demon King walked to the phone in Lin Lin’s bedroom.
The Demon King picked up the receiver and began to dial.
The call connected, and the Demon King said, "Safir, I need to tell you something…"
The Sapphire Dragon interrupted His Majesty the Demon King’s words, and Safir’s voice was deep and hoarse, "Why are you in Lin’s bedroom?"
The Demon King said, "That’s exactly what I wanted to say, Lin Lin has awakened her light-type powers! We need to celebrate!"
Lin Lin, who was usually calm, felt a chill run down her spine when she heard the word "celebrate." Although she wasn’t particularly shy, the idea of a gathering focused on her was quite frightening.
"Why do we need to celebrate!" Lin Lin’s voice was panicked.
Her voice was loud, and it was clear that Safir on the other end heard her.
The Sapphire Dragon paused slightly, still maintaining the elegant calm of the Dragon race, "It seems you did not convince Lin, Your Majesty the Demon King. Please do not waste my valuable time."
The phone was hung up.
"Don’t just use my phone to call Safir!" Lin Lin said in a low voice, "What if he doesn’t answer my call?"
Lin Lin’s phone number was one of the few that Safir would actually look at and answer. Lin Lin saw it as an important way to reach Safir if, one day, the Demon King Castle was attacked by enemies.
The Demon King’s own phone number wasn’t as effective.
The Demon King put down the receiver, "Because Safir might not answer my call."
You have some self-awareness, it seems.
Lin Lin pointed towards the door, trying to calm down her feelings; being upset was not suitable for going back to sleep, "Go outside."
Your Majesty the Demon King clearly didn’t want to. He was still trying to convince Lin Lin that they should hold a banquet, just like a birthday celebration.
Lin Lin’s expression became even calmer, "I will count to three: one, two…"
The Demon King quickly closed the bedroom door behind him.
–
If possible, she should just fall asleep and never wake up again.
May I ask if I can be buried in the ground like Orion?
Lin Lin didn’t want to seem pessimistic, but when there were overly optimistic people around her, it was easy for her to look pessimistic.
There must be a good reason why the Demon King is called the Demon King.
After being watched by many small and large magical creatures, Lin Lin finally couldn’t help but stop a Worgen brother in the corner.
This young man mainly stood guard at the door and during his breaks, he ate and slept at the Demon King Castle, helping to move things around.
"Why is everyone secretly watching me today?" Lin Lin stared at the Worgen brother.
On ordinary days, when this young man saw Lin Lin from a distance, he would wag his tail madly and show a silly smile, hoping she would pet his head.
But now, the Worgen young man tucked his tail tightly.
He looked entirely like a wolf, with a fluffy body and dog-like paws. Like the Lizardfolk, the Worgen had dark gray fur on his upper body and wore pants on his lower half, designed with an opening for his tail.
When Lin Lin frowned at him, even though the Worgen was taller than Lin Lin, he didn’t dare to meet her gaze. The closer she got to his face, the more he turned his head and eyes away.
It was truly a state of hiding like a scared dog.
Lin Lin cornered the Worgen until there was nowhere left to go; he almost curled up into a ball and finally let out a pleading tone from his throat, saying, "Ma’am… I didn’t do anything."
Lin Lin was of a higher rank than ordinary monsters, just like the officials from the Demon King Castle, so referring to her as "Ma’am" was reasonable. However, this young man had always warmly called her Miss Lin before.
Something must have happened while she was asleep, Lin Lin was even more certain.
"Why are you afraid of me?" Lin Lin asked.
"I am not afraid of you," Worgen replied.
After Lin Lin frowned, he quickly admitted, "I am afraid you will hit me."
Lin Lin, "When have I ever hit you? I have only ever fought the Demon King and the Dark Elf."
The accountant of Demon King Castle spoke some rather harsh words.
Then, she saw the banner hanging at the entrance of Demon King Castle, guided by Worgen.
[Warm congratulations on the awakening of the light-type magic of Demon King Castle’s accountant!]
It felt as if ice and snow had blown past Lin Lin, making her feel cold.
"Take it down," Lin Lin said.
The Worgen on duty showed look of distress; they were very afraid of offending the Demon King.
"Take it down," Lin Lin said calmly, "Will you listen to the Demon King or to me?"
The banner was quickly taken down.
