Chapter 77: Thank You, Your Majesty
"Even though it seems a bit coincidental, I also prepared a gift for you."
After receiving Felix’s hairpin, Lin Lin said this line.
Felix raised an eyebrow slightly, showing an expression of disbelief; Lin Lin could now subtly sense what Felix meant.
He wants to create a image of a "hard-to-please" traditional villain.
Lin Lin doubts that this cunning and suspicious look is considered clever among the Dark Elves; she respects their culture but does not understand it.
"Why would I lie to you?" Lin Lin turned around to find the gift she prepared for Felix in her vanity drawer.
"It even has your name written on it," Lin Lin pointed to the writing on the box for Felix to see.
The Dark Elves have excellent vision in this dim light, and Felix showed a strange expression when he saw the box in Lin Lin’s hand.
In fact, the gift Felix gave to Lin Lin is not considered precious from a Dark Elf’s point of view, especially when a hairpin is given to a woman. If the gift does not have beautiful jewels or decorations made of pure gold, many Dark Elf women would question its sincerity.
After all, in their eyes, male Dark Elves must give almost everything to be allowed to follow or provide a certain level of protection.
Felix gave Lin Lin this hairpin because he thought it would look beautiful adorning her dark hair.
Stingy Dark Elves seldom give gifts to others.
Felix did not try to impress Lin Lin, nor did he hope for a return gift.
But at this moment, he received more than he imagined; what he got was not a return gift, but his name already written and placed in the drawer, a gift he truly deserved.
He did not have to give anything to receive the gift.
Felix’s eyes were fixed on the small box; even though he knew it was his gift, he still had no intention of reaching out to take it.
Lin Lin looked confused and asked Felix, "Aren’t you going to open it?"
"You open it," Felix replied, teaching Lin Lin how a Dark Elf usually does it, "You open it and then throw it in my face."
Lin Lin had already opened the box halfway. After hearing the second part, she looked at Felix with a speechless expression, "Honestly, sometimes I really want to hit you, but I worry you might enjoy it."
Yet, this slippery Felix must be tightly held, or else he would only behave a little better sometimes.
"When you mentioned I should exchange engagement rings with the Moon Elf, I thought about whether I should give this gift to the Moon Elf," Lin Lin mocked Felix’s earlier words.
Felix rarely did not respond with sarcasm; he stared at the items in the box and said, "This is a ring."
The ring, with three silver edges and a black magic stone in the center, lay quietly there, giving off a gentle glow.
"Yes, it goes on three fingers of one hand: the thumb, the middle finger, and the ring finger," Lin Lin explained. "You should know how to use this magic item better than I do."
Lin Lin didn’t throw the ring to him; Felix had to take it himself. His dark fingers touched the gift in Lin Lin’s hand, then quickly pulled back, cautious that Lin Lin might attack him while he was reaching for it.
"Maybe you should put it back in the drawer," Felix mocked himself without mercy. "I am quicker at stealing things."
"Sorry," Lin Lin said, "You need to get used to receiving gifts normally, because this won’t be the last time I give you one."
Felix puffed out his cheeks, pretending not to hear Lin Lin’s words, but his pointed ears drooped slightly.
However, Lin Lin did have a playful side; when Felix took the ring, she tried to hit the back of his hand with her other hand to see if he would let his guard down.
Of course, he did not; he did not relax at all. The Dark Elf moved quickly into the shadows like the night itself, then stepped out from the darkness.
Felix felt a bit proud, "No one can sneak attack a Dark Elf."
Lin Lin found it strange, "Didn’t you take gold coins from me before? You weren’t this nervous then."
"Of course," Felix replied, "taking someone else’s things feels different from taking your own."
Wow, you’re so used to being a bad guy that you get anxious in normal social situations, huh?
Felix was always quick. He put the ring on his left hand and swiftly made a hand sign, a small flame of black fire burst from his palm.
Felix raised an eyebrow and casually handed the short dagger at his waist to the black flame.
The flame devoured the dagger, and then it disappeared.
When Felix made the sign again, he could easily and smoothly take the blade out of the flame.
Felix continued to feed the flame three or four different shaped daggers until it was full.
"That’s really good," Felix said, "This way I can stab his heart before he even realizes there is danger."
Lin Lin was silent for two seconds.
Lin Lin said, "The purpose of this gift is to keep your wallet in a safer place, away from thieves."
Felix paused his fingers while playing with the dagger.
"Wow, that really is an unexpected feature," Felix said, "It exceeds my imagination."
Lin Lin quietly looked down.
–
In the morning, while having breakfast.
The restaurant today had only Lin Lin and the Demon King, along with Felix who had returned to Demon King Castle.
Your Majesty the Demon King saw the Dark Elf arriving with a yawn. During the day, Felix always looked like he had just woken up.
Your Majesty the Demon King smiled gently, with a look of complete control.
The Demon King said, "Felix, I don’t know if you have heard, but Lin…"
"Your Majesty, would you like to see my new ring? It was a gift from Lin," Felix began, "but the magic energy of the ring doesn’t quite match my own, so I need your help to adjust it."
When the Dark Elf realized he had interrupted Your Majesty the Demon King, Felix looked back and said, "I’m sorry, what were you just saying? I’m so sleepy; my mind is a bit slow."
Your Majesty the Demon King slightly lowered their head and said, "It’s nothing, just take off the ring, and I will take a look."
Felix took off the ring and started eating his mushroom salad.
Your Majesty the Demon King cast a sorrowful glance at Lin Lin.
"I’m sorry," Lin Lin said with clear eyes, "I don’t have any magic power, so I didn’t know there was such a thing as magical energy. I won’t trouble you again next time."
Your Majesty the Demon King became even angrier and silently adjusted his ring.
Orion appeared with steamed eggs and fried dough sticks; the Death Knight had now learned some basic Chinese home cooking.
Lin Lin received it with great gratitude, "Thank you very much!"
The feelings of frustration that Your Majesty the Demon King had built up began to show, "You have never thanked me so seriously."
Felix thought to himself, "You’re adjusting my ring, are you accusing me?"
Felix, "Thank you, Your Majesty."
Demon King: …
Lin Lin took a bite of the steamed egg; its smooth texture tasted like happiness.
Lin Lin rested her face on her hand, her eyes shining, "Thank you for bringing Orion to Demon King Castle."
Demon King, "Orion, you need to take off your head in the Demon King Castle from now on."
Orion: ?
