Chapter 71: After All, When I Think About It
At first, Lin Lin didn’t have many thoughts in her mind. She took the little storage card from Your Majesty the Demon King just to record what was happening outside.
Just let him read it.
But now, seeing the Demon King looking at Lin Lin with expectation and asking if she could read it, Lin Lin’s mind began to race. She felt that maybe some information was better kept from him.
It seems that apart from her discussion about time and space magic with that little mage Caligo, everything else is fine?
Lin Lin took a sip of her milk tea but still decided to be cautious. She confirmed with the Demon King, "You can only see the scenes that Your Majesty’s little doll can see?"
This counts as a reminder.
After spending some time in the damp port, Lin Lin returned and even felt that the air here was a bit too dry. She took another sip of her milk tea.
Your Majesty the Demon King’s milk tea has always been quite sweet, giving off a taste that is too sugary, just like him.
After hearing Lin Lin’s words, the smile of Your Majesty the Demon King did not change. He replied, "Of course."
After saying this, the Demon King, who was sitting in the chair across from Lin Lin, stood up.
He was very tall, and when Lin Lin was sitting, she had to look up at him, which suddenly made her feel tense instead of relaxed.
Lin Lin followed the Demon King with her gaze; she put her milk tea down on the small table and held her other arm with one hand, forcing herself to relax.
Lin Lin felt that her mood was a bit like before getting a blood test, not knowing if it would hurt or how skilled the doctor would be.
More awkward than a blood test was that she didn’t know what she was about to face.
Lin Lin started to look around nervously; she glanced at the Demon King’s waist. He was wearing a fitted black shirt that hugged his narrow waist, emphasizing his shape. In his own room, Your Majesty the Demon King did not wear that big furry cape that he showed off all year round.
Although Lin Lin always complained about the cape’s boldness, she had to admit that Your Majesty the Demon King suited the extravagant style quite well.
And now, this splendid majesty knelt in front of Lin Lin on one knee, adopting a knightly pose.
Lin Lin, sitting in the armchair, twisted her ankle nervously. She looked cautiously at the Demon King, afraid he might use a needle on her like he did when taking blood.
Lin Lin always thought the Demon King was an unreliable guy with curly hair who deserved criticism. Whenever she tugged on his horns and long hair, he would bend down and smile, making it hard for Lin Lin to understand their size difference.
Suddenly, Lin Lin realized that the Demon King was still a bit taller than her.
Not a black curly-haired lamb, but a big black curly-haired sheep.
"Relax," the Demon King said.
As they got closer, Lin Lin smelled a sweet scent even stronger than milk tea. His left hand reached towards her neck, tearing off the bandage she had placed there.
Lin Lin stared at his right hand resting on his knee.
Lin Lin judged whether the process was complicated by seeing if the Demon King needed both hands.
The sticky bandage came off her skin, a slight pain and mark matching the Demon King’s warm touch. His cool fingers from the demon race made contact there, bringing a refreshing, soothing comfort.
Soon, Lin Lin realized that her worries were necessary, because she truly felt the pain.
Clenching her hand on her arm, Lin Lin sensed something deeper where the mark was, as if something was pulling away from her body, and then it swirled like smoke to the Demon King’s fingers.
Your Majesty the Demon King clearly noticed Lin Lin’s small movement.
He lifted his eyelashes.
The demon race and humans do not have the same sensitivity to magic; the power of the spell floated around His Majesty like air, but for Lin Lin, it felt like being pricked by needles.
The mist that gathered between his fingers dissipated, and before all the information could be fully drawn away, Your Majesty the Demon King pulled back his hand.
A small bead of sweat appeared on Lin Lin’s forehead, and she confirmed with Your Majesty the Demon King, "Did you finish reading?"
"Yes, I have finished reading," the Demon King said as he took out a handkerchief to wipe Lin Lin’s sweat and gently pressed her shoulder with his other hand to ease her tense feelings.
The reality was different from the Demon King’s answer. The Demon King did not fully extract the small bit of power to see everything; in fact, he mistakenly pulled in other images because he was anxious to close the connection to the mark.
Lin Lin herself was not good at magic and was not on guard against him. Her mind was completely open to the Demon King, so Your Majesty the Demon King easily saw parts of things he should not have seen.
"Bulwo?" While quickly reading the vast information, Your Majesty the Demon King remembered someone he was somewhat familiar with but who should not have appeared.
Lin Lin’s eyes widened. "Do you know him?"
Lin Lin thought that Bulwo had fallen out with Safir, and the Demon King had never actually interacted with this guy.
Normally, Bulwo would be very unwilling to let the Demon King become the heir of Demon King Castle.
Unlike what Lin Lin imagined, the Demon King did not seem unhappy about this person’s appearance; he even showed a slight smile as he reminisced about the past.
"When I was just a little one," Your Majesty the Demon King told Lin Lin about his childhood adventures, "Brother Bulwo once secretly threw me into the lava while carrying Teacher Safir, saying we would compete to see who was better at swimming."
That’s not right! Who would compete in swimming in lava?
Lin Lin calmly asked, "Did Bulwo jump into the lava himself?"
The Demon King shook his head, and his black curls bounced.
Lin Lin, "So he is just simply trying to kill you!"
Don’t keep remembering with a look of nostalgia; it is both unfortunate and bittersweet!
–
The Demon King gratefully accepted the memories from outside the demon realm, while Lin Lin reminded him that a pen and a miracle were needed tonight; he was not allowed to rest until the work was finished.
A little black sheep lay dejectedly on the lounge chair.
Lin Lin encountered the Death Knight who was patrolling the hallway.
Before the Death Knight appeared, Lin Lin had been awarding the Best Employee of Demon King Castle to Dark Elf Felix.
Now, Lin Lin decided to take back this certificate and reawarded it to Death Knight Orion.
A true good employee! He does not eat or drink, wasting no resources from Demon King Castle, and diligently patrols. Since he started his shift, Lin Lin has been able to see him almost everywhere.
He even goes to help Auntie feed the Abyssal Wild Boar, peel potatoes, and carry cabbages and pumpkins.
Death Knight Orion is full of love and kindness for every employee in Demon King Castle. He is also very generous and selfless, being the only officer who works without receiving a salary, standing in stark contrast to the many lazy people found around Demon King Castle.
Upon noticing Lin Lin, the tall armored knight stopped. He stood straight and quietly, waiting for Lin Lin to come beside him, then escorted her to her destination.
Because Lin Lin is one of the weaker humans in Demon King Castle, the Death Knight is always very worried about her safety.
This time, the Death Knight did not lose his helmet, and his head was properly placed on the armor, with eerie green flames slowly flowing from the helmet in a rhythmic manner, like breathing.
Though Orion’s expression cannot be seen from outside the armor, the intensity of the flames makes it easy to understand his feelings.
For example, right now, the eerie green flames are not very bright, but the flames of the undead are strong, showing that he feels relaxed and happy.
"Good afternoon, Miss Lin." After Lin Lin approached Orion, he greeted her. His voice was muffled inside the helmet, sounding somewhat buzzing.
Lin Lin stopped him from taking off his helmet.
The last time Lin Lin saw Orion take off his helmet, he had his head in his hands, and she almost fainted.
Lin Lin had no courage to open the helmet and didn’t want to know what was inside Orion’s armor.
The knight’s armor was carefully cleaned and kept; it looked neat and fresh, with just a few battle marks, but they were not a big deal.
It is said that Orion once tried to change armor like a hermit crab, but that armor was quickly consumed by the flames on his body.
"Good afternoon," Lin Lin replied, while also noticing the eagle pattern on Orion’s armor.
Lin Lin was quite familiar with this pattern because she had seen the eagle guarding the God of Light on Norman’s armor.
Orion used to be a member of the Paladin group, so he was used to putting his needs after those of others.
Lin Lin could almost imagine how Orion spread the blessings of the God of Light to the people when he was alive; he must have been gentle and patient.
The meaning of Orion’s name in common language is "the glory of the lion."
Now, people live well; Norman and the others only need to maintain safety, even keeping a cold and serious demeanor for respect. In Orion’s time, he needed to gather crops, make food, and protect livestock for the people.
Oh, and there was special care for women.
In Orion’s era, culture seemed to require women to be reserved and quiet, which meant they needed more gentle and careful attention.
Even though Lin Lin clearly no longer represented the "good woman" in Orion’s mind, he still tended to give her extra care.
After Lin Lin explained the meaning of Orion’s eagle pattern, he nodded gently in agreement with her guess.
"I’ve lost part of my memory; maybe I fought alongside the Paladins to break into the Demon King Castle and then died here in battle," Orion replied.
Orion took the past lightly, "After all, if I think too much, my head might fall off."
