Chapter 67: How Long Is Considered Knowing Someone?
Embarrassing, very embarrassing.
In Lin Lin’s limited life experience, no one had ever asked her if she was someone’s "master."
Just hearing that word made Lin Lin feel ashamed.
Even Lizardfolk Donna used the term "young master" more often than "master" when referring to Safir.
For some reason, when the cold and reserved elf said the word "master," it felt even stranger.
Lin Lin walked over to Royvald with a cup of water and emphasized to the Moon Elf, "Of course not, I am not anyone’s master."
Royvald stopped playing his lute, his fingers paused, then he changed the way he played, making the music tighter, "You don’t have to lie to me. Moon Elves can find Dark Elves from five hundred meters away. They are born from darkness, while we are surrounded by the light of the moon."
"Please don’t talk while playing music," Lin Lin complained.
Which good elf appears with background music?
Royvald shrugged. As a bard elf, he was used to singing with a lovely voice. He placed the lute back into the wooden box.
"You are already the master of the Dark Elf, and you can make a killer whale protect you," Royvald looked at Lin Lin with his bright green eyes, creating a feeling of deep interest. "I am very curious about you. Would you tell me your story?"
Now Lin Lin completely understood why the dwarf kept insisting she should never be fooled by this guy.
Royvald did not understand the personal space between humans. He didn’t care if others misunderstood; he was only interested in what caught his attention.
"I do know about Dark Elves," Lin Lin said, sitting beside Royvald, her silver-haired eyes following him. "But we are not in a master-servant relationship, and I am friends with the killer whales. There is no ‘controlling’ like you said."
Royvald clearly did not believe her, "I know what my dark relatives among the elves are like. They don’t approach women unless ordered to."
Lin Lin suddenly remembered that Dark Elf Felix had approached her at first because of the Demon King’s order. From a certain point of view, Felix’s master was indeed the Demon King.
No, thinking carefully, Lin Lin herself also bore the mark of the Demon King; she too was a servant of the Demon King.
Images of eunuchs and palace maids appeared in Lin Lin’s mind. She commanded herself to erase those terrifying pictures.
Not wanting the topic to continue, Lin Lin began to inquire about Royvald’s past.
"Did you come here just to bring seeds for your friend?" Lin Lin asked curiously, "You spent ten years?"
Lin Lin could hardly imagine spending ten years on the boring task of finding seeds. Even being a long-living species, dwarves always complained about elves’ terrible sense of time.
"I spent only three months to come to this city," Royvald emphasized, "The rest of the time was for finding seeds. With rain, time, temperature, and the influence of surrounding plants and animals, it is truly difficult to collect perfect seeds."
"Oh," Lin Lin replied, "Humans don’t care about that; we just want to get the seeds."
After Lin Lin said this, Royvald showed a satisfied smile. He seemed to appreciate Lin Lin’s unrefined but sincere answer, "Of course, humans are the most desire-driven race I’ve ever seen; they can overlook many things to achieve their goals."
Lin Lin instinctively wanted to argue, but compared to the coolness of the elf, human desire was indeed much stronger.
"What I mean is not a criticism," Royvald said, extending his left hand to show Lin Lin a small point of light following his finger, "Light Spell, I took two years to learn it, while some followers of the God of Light can cast it in just three months. Although they cannot deeply understand the flow of magic, they still achieve the same effect."
Lin Lin subtly sensed that Royvald enjoyed observing humans, just as he experienced the flow of magic.
However, observation was like looking through a glass shell, and it could never provide the true experience that magic flowing through the body could offer.
"Maybe…" Lin Lin suggested, "you could get a human girlfriend?"
Lin Lin wasn’t sure if this matched the thinking of elves, but there was a difference between a partner and an ordinary friend among humans.
After Lin Lin spoke this line, the light in the elf’s left hand faded. Royvald’s attention returned to her.
The elf, blessed by the moonlight, looked at her earnestly, with a hint of distress.
Lin Lin thought that perhaps this suggestion had caused Royvald some trouble in the past.
After confirming that Lin Lin’s expression was very sincere and that there was no hint of sarcasm, Royvald quietly sighed with relief.
"A human girlfriend? Forget it." This was the first time this elf showed negative emotions in front of Lin Lin, and even then, it was a mild kind of distress. "A human mercenary suggested something similar to me before."
Wow, this guy has a wide circle of friends, Lin Lin raised her eyebrows.
Based on Lin Lin’s stereotype of mercenaries and the atmosphere of the guild she visited with Sharon before, those guys talked about nothing but gold and women.
These mercenaries must have said similar things about elves too, like how a guy like you can win over any woman.
The mercenaries were already somewhat restrained in front of girls like Sharon and Lin Lin; she could hardly imagine the terrible things they must have said in front of Royvald.
"I don’t fall in love out of curiosity, but some human women have shown interest in me," Royvald’s white face flushed lightly, and his thin, pointed elf ears also turned a shade of red. "They always want to… sleep with me right after meeting."
That’s right! Lin Lin’s heart agreed.
The first time she saw Royvald, she thought he was the type to persist relentlessly, and there was a chance to win him over.
I didn’t expect that someone had actually tried. Even though it seems like it failed.
Compared to Royvald, Dark Elf Felix looks like a dangerous creature that people would avoid and respect from a distance.
From this perspective, Felix actually lives a more comfortable life.
"There’s nothing we can do about it, because elves really fit human beauty standards," Lin Lin shrugged. "But how long do you think you need to know someone to consider them a friend?"
"Fifty years," the elf replied.
Lin Lin fell silent.
Lin Lin imagined a twenty-year-old human having feelings for an elf and realized that they would have to wait until they were seventy to be considered good friends with the elf.
How scary! Just thinking about it feels very frightening.
"But Dark Elves aren’t like that," Lin Lin propped her chin on her hand, looking at Royvald. "We became good friends not long after we met."
After Lin Lin said the words "good friend," the Moon Elf clearly showed a disapproving look, but out of respect for Lin Lin, he still did not express his true thoughts.
"Because Dark Elves live shorter lives than High Elves," Royvald emphasized, "and they are best at flattery and disguise, they might not be sincere with you. A Dark Elf who wants to be ‘good friends’ with you is even more suspicious; someone who betrayed their own kind, wouldn’t they betray you too?"
Well, Lin Lin felt very calm inside; he took the chance to make a jab at the Dark Elves again.
Even though he knew how deep the hatred was between the enemy races, witnessing it with his own eyes made Lin Lin even more certain that he absolutely should not let these guys meet; they really hated each other.
Lin Lin took the initiative to pour a glass of wheat juice for Royvald, hoping that the beer could cool his anger.
"I will go home tomorrow," Lin Lin said, "What about you? Where will you go after the Autumn Harvest Festival?"
Lin Lin was very curious about the elves’ seemingly aimless travels.
"I will go to San Marco City." To Lin Lin’s surprise, Royvald actually named a place, "You should know this city, the capital of the human empire."
Yes, Lin Lin added in his mind, and it is also the hometown of Norman and Sharon, the location of the God of Light’s sanctuary.
"You went there to watch humans?" Lin Lin began to admire Royvald’s unyielding spirit.
"Not really," the elf clearly denied that reason, "because the elder heard that the God of Light’s temple started looking for the Holy Maiden."
Lin Lin raised an eyebrow, guessing that the elves were going to help.
"The elder said," Royvald replied calmly, "if I go to San Marco City at my normal speed, I will probably find the Holy Maiden, and I can go there to bless her. I’ll casually bring some elf gifts; they will definitely appreciate it."
The white-skinned elf spoke without hesitation, saying something rather nonsensical.
Ah, it is no wonder they are a race spoiled by the world.
-
Lin Lin and Allen argued once again.
Because of the gifts.
"You prepared gifts for Sandy and Sharon, even the hotel owner and the elf!" Allen was very angry, "What about us?"
"Clearly not," Lin Lin said flatly, "At least Sharon won’t pretend to be someone else to trick me."
After Lin Lin said this, Allen’s confidence began to fade; he was clearly taught a lesson about this matter.
Allen secretly glanced at the expressionless Arthur and started to take credit, "If I hadn’t talked to the fishermen about getting fish at a lower price from elsewhere, this trip wouldn’t have been completed!"
"Whether a project is successful or not, I, as an accountant, don’t have the final say," Lin Lin said, pulling her bag back from Allen, "I’m in a good mood today, so don’t make me hit you."
Allen immediately let go.
Allen mumbled about Lin Lin being stingy.
Lin Lin was determined to make him feel uncomfortable for a while, so she continued to treat him like air.
Then Lin Lin noticed Arthur’s gaze; he was looking at her ears.
Lin Lin reached out to touch her left ear, where a silver earring was resting on her ear bone, a gift from Moon Elf Royvald.
The elf still believed that Lin Lin was led astray by the Dark Elf. As a way to show his hopeful feelings for the human who had a chance to turn back, he gave this silver ornament carved with leaves to Lin Lin.
Lin Lin thought this also belonged to the category of "giving some elf trinkets that the other person will appreciate."
"Does it look strange?" Lin Lin felt a bit shy; the elf earring was delicate and intricate, and her usual clothes didn’t seem to match this style.
Arthur shook his head.
Lin Lin pushed the noisy Allen out of the room, as he was distracting her while she packed her things.
After Lin Lin stuffed a large pile of souvenirs into her bag, she noticed that Arthur had not left with Allen.
"Arthur, do you need something?" Lin Lin asked, confused.
Arthur’s personality was more reserved, and he was always quiet. Even though Lin Lin tried her best to pay attention to him, sometimes his feelings were still easy to overlook.
Arthur and Allen are different. Allen cares more about what he hasn’t received and tries to get more attention and help by making noise, wishing everyone could know what he is thinking. Arthur, on the other hand, often wraps himself up and deliberately hides his true feelings.
A pair of very similar but completely opposite twins.
After Lin Lin asked Arthur, the young man standing in Lin Lin’s room seemed to wake up from a dream and blinked his eyes.
Arthur’s gaze on Lin Lin’s face paused for a moment; he seemed just as surprised that he hadn’t left with Allen.
Lin Lin was about to leave this city and return to Demon King Castle.
And now, the weather at Demon King Castle was dry and hot, while the orcas were stuck at the damp seaside and could not go back with them.
Even though he had known they would part, when the moment of separation truly arrived, Arthur still felt a pang in his chest.
The orcas were strong and sturdy, and this feeling of discomfort was a strange experience.
Arthur reached out and touched his chest.
Confirm that there are no injuries.
