Chapter 54: Restraint
Lin Lin always felt she was a sincere person.
Since Roslyn has decided to leave the world in her childhood, encouraging her to fulfill her wishes is the right choice.
Although sometimes the truth can sound a bit harsh.
"If you want to see the ocean, then take a boat," Lin Lin replied.
When she looked down at the little girl, the girl was also looking up at her.
The girl slowly placed the instant camera down in her hands, "Alright, then there’s nothing I can do. After all, it’s Dad’s request."
Huh? Did what Roslyn said have anything to do with what she just said? Lin Lin wondered.
"I say, miss, you can go," Lin Lin emphasized, gently tugging on Roslyn’s little hand.
However, as if she couldn’t hear her, the girl reached out and shook hands with Lin Lin, still showing a look of disappointment, "Alright then, let’s go home."
It was completely the way adults said no to going to the sea.
Holding the small hand tightly, Lin Lin looked over Roslyn at the blurry faces of the fishermen behind her.
Even though it was a hot temperature, Lin Lin felt as if a cool breeze had awakened her. This was the world of memories.
Even though the people in the world would talk to her and interact, when they reached important story points, they walked in fixed directions.
Even though Lin Lin had not yet thought of stopping Roslyn’s death, she couldn’t change even this small matter of whether or not to go on the boat.
Lin Lin stared at the little girl who was looking at her.
She is not human; she is just a fantasy. Lin Lin told herself, feeling much more at ease as she looked at Roslyn again.
"Where else are you going?"
Lin Lin asked.
-
Back at the City Lord’s manor, when she entered the house, a new maid was already there to take care of Roslyn. Lin Lin went to her room to change out of her outdoor clothes.
She pushed the door open.
Not only was she startled, but Sharon, who was sitting on the bed studying something, was also surprised.
"You two are back so early?" Sharon asked.
Lin Lin looked out at the sunset and said, "I don’t think it’s too early."
Sharon also looked up and said, "It seems like time is passing quickly."
"How did you get here?" Lin Lin changed her clothes and added, "I see the kitchen servants are already busy."
"Oh, if I show up in front of them, they will pull me into work, but as long as they can’t see me, they won’t come looking for me," Sharon replied. "That’s what I found out today."
"Let me add another point," Lin Lin sat on Sharon’s bed and looked at what was on it. "Key events will always move in a certain direction. Today, I encouraged Roslyn to go see the sea, but I said no to her."
"Because in her eyes, you are not the you of now, but rather a maid from that time, and that maid should keep her away from the sea." Sharon seemed to have guessed some things. "Look."
Sharon opened the paper in her hand for Lin Lin to see.
The handwriting was quite elegant, but it didn’t seem like something learned from a young age. Lin Lin could now tell which writing was from someone educated and which was self-taught.
Like Demon King, Norman, and Sharon, who had someone teach them from a young age, their handwriting showed a clear stability in their strokes, even though they could write in different styles; their experience showed through various styles.
For Arthur and Felix, their writing looks better when they take it seriously, but sometimes it still feels a bit uneven.
Allen, well, Allen is a stick figure. His drawing is okay.
The unstable writing style really matches the story of the City Lord, who worked hard since childhood to achieve his current success.
Lin Lin looked at the words written on the paper:
[1. Do not let Roslyn go to the beach.
2. Do not follow the head maid to the top floor.
3. Do not go to the innermost room in the study.]
There were only a few short sentences that seemed to be written for himself.
"This is something I stole from the City Lord’s study today," Sharon told Lin Lin, "This is the key to keeping this illusion alive."
Lin Lin frowned and said, "The first rule of keeping the daughter away from the sea makes sense; it delays Roslyn’s death. But what about the other two? Didn’t you take the chance to look at the innermost room when you went to his study?"
Lin Lin thought that with Sharon’s curiosity and her resentment towards this City Lord for not providing a good church for the God of Light, she would definitely go take a look.
Sure enough, Sharon smiled and said, "I looked, but there was nothing, just an ordinary empty room."
"Or maybe you didn’t find the real ‘innermost room,’" Lin Lin guessed.
"I’ll have to check again tomorrow when the City Lord is out. He’s already home now, and according to his habits, he sometimes works in the study all night," Sharon shrugged.
What great determination! It turns out that a person who achieves great things has abilities beyond what ordinary people can reach.
Lin Lin felt that if she could never sleep in and had to be the City Lord, compared to doing nothing, she would rather do nothing.
Finally, Lin Lin focused on the words "Head Maid", "What does he mean by going to the rooftop? There are only two floors here; where is the rooftop?"
"Maybe it’s just a literal meaning?" Sharon gestured with both hands, placing her palms on the roof of the mansion she was illustrating. "It’s the highest place."
"That’s so strange," Lin Lin said, "Is he a bird? Does he want to fly up to the roof?"
-
Everything looked quite normal, even though Sharon was lazy today and didn’t go to work. The maids didn’t seem unhappy at all; instead, they warmly invited everyone to eat with them.
"Where is the head maid?" Lin Lin asked. "Isn’t she joining us for dinner?"
"She eats by herself," answered a younger maid. "I really wonder what delicious food she has every day."
Her hungry words made everyone laugh.
Today’s food was still various seafood; the harbor has this advantage of always providing the freshest food.
Lin Lin noticed that Arthur’s appetite was not good. As people finished eating and began to leave, Lin Lin moved closer to Arthur, reached out, and touched his forehead; it wasn’t hot.
Sharon had gone back to her room to study the spells that might have caused all this, and one by one, the maids left, leaving only Lin Lin and Arthur in the small servants’ dining room.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Lin asked.
The killer whale sitting beside her was quieter than usual, even its responses seemed a bit tired.
Arthur slightly lowered his head, his forehead touching Lin Lin’s, the whale’s warmth transferring between them.
He conveyed his message.
[I’m so hungry.]
Lin Lin: …I was careless.
Since leaving the Demon King Castle, Arthur had not truly filled his stomach, and whatever was in it had already digested. This pair of killer whale brothers had an amazing appetite, and now they were sadly hungry, moving less to avoid exhausting their strength.
"How about you go to the beach tonight?" Lin Lin could only suggest this to the big eater. After all, the only thing that could fill their stomachs enough was a lot of fish.
Arthur nodded.
He is really a bit tired.
Maybe it has to do with the special nature of twins. Arthur, away from Allen, feels lonelier, like a whale that has been left behind by its group.
Lin Lin noticed that Arthur actually has many feelings inside; he just doesn’t like to show them because of his reserved personality.
Also, he is the protector.
Lin Lin subtly noticed that without Allen, this side of Arthur became more obvious. If this were a team, Arthur would keep it safe under the large body of a killer whale.
With that in mind, Lin Lin could almost imagine what risky things this brother had done to gain the protection of Demon King Castle.
A reserved risk-taker.
Lin Lin found this name very interesting. She reached out and gently tapped Arthur’s cheek, and his pale face easily flushed red.
"Go do what you need to do, and don’t always think about me and Sharon."
Lin Lin said, "And I have my own way to protect myself."
Arthur made a clear, doubtful expression.
Lin Lin smiled and playfully punched him in the chest, "No questioning."
Arthur silently covered his heart.
I must say, with Allen and the Dark Elf’s encouragement and training, Lin Lin’s punches have become stronger and stronger.
-
In a dark room, the curtains were tightly closed, and the sound of the rain outside could be heard.
Lin Lin woke up from a dream and looked toward the direction of the rain.
It was terrible; she had a very scary dream. She dreamed that seven or eight keychains, as big as His Majesty, were charging straight at her, giving her a feeling of fear like being attacked by a giant moth.
Thank you, there is a fear of pulling the same blind box ten times in a row.
On another bed, Sharon was still fast asleep; a small gap in the curtains let some soft moonlight shine on her face.
Sharon had the personality of a little girl, curled up in her sleep like she was in her mother’s arms, but she had kicked the blanket off, leaving only one leg covered.
As a strong believer in the idea that "not covering your belly button means you aren’t really covered," Lin Lin reached out to help cover her with the blanket again, then went to the window.
Just as Lin Lin expected, it was raining.
It was a light rain, and the thin clouds couldn’t block the gentle moonlight.
Lin Lin’s palm pressed against the cool glass, and she suddenly remembered that Arthur was going out to hunt tonight; she wondered if he was back.
The rain in this city always gave Lin Lin a bad feeling. She hesitated for a moment, but decided to go check on Arthur’s room.
She took a small lamp that flickered softly and quietly stepped out the door.
Because of Sharon’s experience, she is no longer afraid of how to explain bumping into someone. After all, by the time she runs to a place where the person cannot see her, that person will completely ignore this unimportant detail.
The boys’ dormitory and the girls’ dormitory are on opposite sides of the first floor, separated by stairs leading to the second floor.
Lin Lin leisurely carried the lamp as she walked over.
The mansion was very quiet at night. She knocked on Arthur’s door but did not get a response.
Then, Lin Lin turned the knob, and as expected, the door was not locked. She gently pushed it open.
Arthur’s room was very tidy. You could almost guess who was responsible for the messy state of their temporary rooms.
The bed looked untouched, as if he had not returned yet.
Lin Lin closed the door and walked toward the girls’ dormitory.
As she approached the hall, the front door was pushed open.
At first, Lin Lin thought it was Arthur, but she quickly realized it was the head maid.
Lin Lin immediately crouched down and watched as the head maid came back from the rain, still wearing her dress, yet not looking wet at all.
His expression was very relaxed, and he started to go upstairs.
[2. Do not follow the head maid to the top floor.]
This sentence suddenly popped into Lin Lin’s mind, but she still gently raised her hand to block the light and quietly followed behind.
It doesn’t matter, as long as I’m not seen, these characters are like NPCs in a game; they won’t act at all.
Lin Lin thought this way, and her cautious nature made her wait until the other person had gone upstairs before she quietly followed.
When she reached the second floor, Lin Lin did not see the head maid. She had lost track of her.
Feeling a bit discouraged, Lin Lin turned around, and then she was attacked.
Relaxation makes people slower. Lin Lin felt herself pushed against the wall, her back against the cold surface, facing the chilly breath of damp rain coming from outside the mansion.
The person pressing her down had one hand gripping her throat and the other hand on her shoulder.
The tall figure didn’t need much strength; just being close created a feeling of pressure.
Lin Lin then realized that this head maid had a quite strong body. Just being near her revealed a broad physique and hidden muscles beneath the black dress.
She looked completely different from her usual relaxed and easygoing self.
The two of them stood very close, their breaths intertwining.
He was still wearing a maid outfit, with one leg pressing between her legs through the hem of the skirt.
Lin Lin noticed that Bulwo seemed a bit excited compared to usual, making the blue in his eyes shine a little brighter. It seemed he could not see well, so he squinted and leaned closer to Lin Lin again.
The feeling of breath brushing across her face was strange, and Lin Lin couldn’t help but turn her head away to avoid it.
Unlike the boy’s clumsiness, adult men can more easily notice a woman’s slight discomfort.
Lin Lin heard the maid’s soft laughter.
He moved a little away from Lin Lin but did not let go, like a cat teasing a toy.
"Look what I found! A clownfish," the maid said in a low voice.
Lin Lin now knew he was really drunk, so he undid the first button of the maid outfit, and the delicate, fair skin on his neck turned a light shade of red.
"What are you doing wandering around here at night? And following me too."
