Chapter 53: The Whale Tilts Its Head
As the only one of the three who actually wore a headband, Arthur looked rather impressive.
After Bulwo criticized Arthur for being late, he happily told Arthur, "As a punishment, you will take care of Miss Roslyn today."
Lin Lin’s lips twitched as she defended Arthur, saying, "What do you mean ‘as a punishment to take care of the lady’? Clearly, you don’t want to take care of her, right, Miss Bulwo?"
Bulwo looked at Lin Lin, "Very well, as a reward for telling the truth, you will also help take care of Roslyn."
This time, Bulwo didn’t even use the title "lady."
Lin Lin’s lips twitched again, realizing that Bulwo was the kind of person who was quite good at slacking off and using her position for her own benefit.
Then, the head maid pointed her finger at Sharon.
Sharon looked at the leader with hopeful eyes; after all, having one or two people take care of an active child felt like a punishment, but three people taking care of him seemed like a wonderful job.
However, the head maid did not satisfy her dreams and casually gave an order, "You go help in the kitchen."
After assigning tasks to the young people, Bulwo nodded with satisfaction and looked at the three with unhappy expressions, "Why are you standing there? Go to work!"
The three were urged to run in different directions.
Lin Lin and Arthur headed towards the rooms on the second floor.
The master’s rooms are all upstairs, and Lin Lin hoped to "accidentally" enter the City Lord’s room to see if there were any strange things inside.
During a late-night chat last night, Sharon told Lin Lin that to break this fantasy, they needed to pay the most attention to two people: the City Lord and Roslyn.
So, Lin Lin gladly accepted the task of taking care of Roslyn.
But when Mage Sharon told Lin Lin about the person to pay attention to, Lin Lin couldn’t help but ask, "What about Bulwo?"
To be honest, Lin Lin found the head maid to be quite suspicious, but she couldn’t say why. Should she tell Sharon that he was clearly a man dressed in maid’s clothing, or that he was an immortal?
In this world, it is not uncommon for immortals to disguise themselves as humans, as having a human identity makes them less noticeable, and many immortals prefer peace and quiet.
"Bulwo?" In response to Lin Lin’s question, Sharon gave a clearer answer, "Maybe Bulwo played an important role in the City Lord’s past, but that was long ago. We are now in the City Lord’s memory, and what matters more is how to break free from here."
"Break free from here."
Sharon’s urging made Lin Lin realize that this place was different from the world of the fish; it was not a place to explore leisurely.
Staying in someone else’s imagined world can slowly eat away at one’s life energy while causing them to forget memories. The worst case is that they completely forget why they came here, and end up staying forever.
The morning sun shone a little warm light through the window, and Lin Lin walked alongside Arthur.
Arthur clearly struggled with the long skirt; he seemed to find it strange when the fabric clung to him as he moved, so he intentionally kicked the skirt forward with his knee, allowing the hem to lift, and then he could walk normally.
Lin Lin watched as a maid in a beautiful dress walked quickly by.
"Wait," Lin Lin grabbed Arthur’s arm.
Since Arthur often found it hard to know when she was speaking, actions were easier for him to understand than words.
Arthur stopped and looked at Lin Lin, confused.
At that moment, the headband on his head was neatly in place, and the ends of his short black hair were slightly lifted because his hair was a bit stiff.
Actions are more useful than words, Lin Lin said as she walked slowly in front of Arthur, "Just walk like this, normally, and don’t kick the dress."
The orca watched her carefully as she walked back and forth in front of him.
She was teaching him how to use his legs seriously.
It felt magical.
As creatures born in the ocean, even when they turned into human form, the little orcas mostly could not use their legs properly, let alone be taught by a young orca who was focused on helping the Demon King grow and had no patience at all.
Bulwo did not abandon them before they could hunt for themselves, which was very kind of him.
Without anyone to teach them, Arthur and Allen helped each other and tried to stand up.
Allen was the first to learn how to walk; he stumbled and ran to the door, then fell to the ground, getting back up as if he felt no pain.
Thanks to the strong bodies of the orcas and the lower center of gravity of children, even though Allen fell hard, he was not hurt, and instead, he stood up more excitedly and turned to wave at his twin brother.
Look! I did it. Even without words, the twins understood each other’s feelings.
Unlike his younger brother, who was always full of energy and eager to explore everything, Arthur was the calmer one.
He moved his feet back, and he did not fall once.
It was not a big deal, but life experience made Arthur unaccustomed to accepting lessons from others; the twins were more used to exploring on their own.
Arthur’s gaze clearly made Lin Lin misunderstand the meaning.
Realizing that the wide, long skirt hid her legs’ movements, Lin Lin reached down to lift the hem.
Lifting a long skirt is common among girls, whether to keep it dry by the sea or simply because they think a long skirt might make it harder to run.
In this world, there are also people who wear short skirts and shorts, so it is not unusual to see above the knee.
Under the long black skirt, the white hem moved up to the knee as it was lifted.
The young orca tilted its head slightly, its deep blue eyes shining, and finally became interested in the lesson.
After briefly explaining the movement of her legs under the skirt for just three seconds, Lin Lin let go of her hands and the silky fabric of the skirt naturally fell down.
Arthur looked down, paused while staring at his long skirt, and began to lift it.
Just as Lin Lin guessed, he wore neat white silk long socks that matched his uniform.
Thanks to Arthur’s tall and slim figure, his legs did not have the obvious muscles of others. Instead, they looked more like a boy’s long and straight legs, which made his white stockings look even better.
Realizing that the other person’s legs were not only longer but also possibly slimmer than hers, Lin Lin chose not to look.
Lin Lin, "There’s no need to start learning from the hem of your skirt!"
-
Neither Lin Lin nor Arthur had any experience with children, especially since Roslyn was a spirited young lady who was spoiled by the servants.
When Roslyn found out that the head maid was no longer following her and had sent these two beginners to take care of her instead, she showed a certain level of resistance.
"You have no idea how to take care of me!" Roslyn screamed.
It couldn’t be worse than that head maid! Lin Lin thought. She only picked up the child and let her cry.
But on the surface, Lin Lin had to go along with what the other person said, "Is there anything you want? Or do you want to go somewhere?"
"Every day I do the same thing." Roslyn’s thoughts were completely led astray by Lin Lin, "If only there were more challenging games."
"You can also learn," Lin Lin sincerely suggested.
After Lin Lin said this, the noisy children fell quiet for a few seconds, as if they hadn’t heard her words, and quickly made a choice, "Then let’s go outside to play."
Lin Lin shook her head, sighing at the disappointment of the wealthy young man.
The sky, the clouds, the seagulls.
Even though she hadn’t stayed underwater for long, the moment Lin Lin stepped out of the mansion’s gate, she couldn’t help but slightly lift her head and look at the sky.
It is said that the sunlight is also part of the power of the God of Light, so the City Lords, who were followers of other gods, covered their built worlds with water and dark clouds to hide the light.
Leaving the City Lord’s manor, Lin Lin was able to see what Padre Port used to look like many years ago.
Compared to its future splendor, the city at this moment seemed especially… chaotic.
The air was filled with all kinds of strong spices, the salty scent of the ocean, and the chaotic smell that came from different people.
Unlike the praise that everyone gave to the City Lord in the future, very few people were willing to greet or smile at the little girl with the backpack, even though they knew she was the City Lord’s daughter. Everyone seemed busy with their work.
The first thing that came to Lin Lin’s mind was the lack of management. Or maybe it was because this port was in a time of rapid growth, and everyone was busy trying to make quick money from it. Even though the managers put in a lot of hard work, the results were still average.
In the distance, the sound of ships’ horns could be heard; a group of sailors had returned from their journey. Many people rushed to ask how many fish they had caught and whether they would take on a new sailor next time.
Lin Lin now understood why the killer whales wanted to take over the fish market here at first.
Clearly, Arthur thought of this too. He pointed at the crowd rushing toward the boats, then spread his hands to show that they had missed the good moment.
For some reason, this genuine feeling of helplessness seemed quite funny. Suggesting ideas to Demon King Castle after gathering information for over ten years didn’t make you feel the slightest bit guilty.
Ignoring Arthur’s frustration, Lin Lin crouched down and looked at Roslyn, "Where are you going?"
Lin Lin thought Roslyn would go to the small shop that sold sweets or play in the park for a while, but she raised her little backpack.
She took out a small instant camera from her little bag.
Roslyn said, "Let’s go to the beach."
Lin Lin looked curiously toward the crowd, not knowing why Roslyn was also interested in that place.
At that moment, Padre Port had not developed tourism at all. The closer one got to the shore, the stronger the feeling of the ocean’s raw power, which made land creatures feel small, became.
The coast for travelers would mark safe areas so everyone could play in fixed spots. But in such natural waters, unless you were an expert, no one knew if it suddenly dropped into an endless deep sea.
Standing in a more remote spot, the distant boats and people were gathered together.
Roslyn held up the instant camera and took a picture in that direction from afar.
Then, she took another picture facing the ocean.
Lin Lin felt that this noisy little girl had suddenly become a bit too quiet.
"Father thinks that the ocean is too dangerous," Roslyn looked at the sea, "When I grow up, I want to travel by boat once."
Lin Lin, "Don’t wait, if you want to go, just go."
Don’t wait for later, later you won’t catch this trip.
