Chapter 52: Compared to the Maid
Lin Lin is having a bit of trouble with the current situation.
In front of her is a man who has always seemed a bit questionable to Lin Lin, now calling himself the head maid, with a lazy expression that says, "These kids just don’t measure up."
Next to her is Arthur, who usually keeps his emotions in check, but for some reason is showing a look of disgust after meeting the head maid.
Ah… Do these two know each other? Lin Lin wondered.
Lin Lin looked at Arthur, "Is he someone you know?"
Arthur shook his head firmly, without hesitation.
In contrast to Arthur, the head maid crossed her arms and said impatiently, "I already taught you this yesterday. If you still don’t recognize me, I am sure the City Lord will reconsider your stay."
City Lord? Lin Lin’s mind caught the key word.
They are now at the City Lord’s mansion.
Although they entered the crumbling mansion from the sea water filled with swimming fish, the inside is quite dry and warm.
It feels like stepping into a completely different world.
A few people are standing in the entrance hall, where the decorations are luxurious, and the walls have fine patterns. Statues of ships representing Padre Port stand on either side, and a comfortable, ornate leather sofa is in front of an empty fireplace. In short, just one glance reveals a lot of fancy details, making it hard to focus on what really matters.
It feels noisy, and just looking at the mansion’s decor makes it seem noisy.
This mansion looks very new, even younger than it appeared to Lin Lin when she saw it on the ground.
Unlike Lin Lin, Sharon clearly understands what is happening, but she doesn’t say it outright; instead, she reminds Lin Lin, "Look, the City Lord is here."
Lin Lin looks in the direction Sharon indicated, and at the top of the staircase in the entrance hall, a strong-looking middle-aged man with a serious expression appears, followed by a little girl with golden pigtails carrying a bag.
Lin Lin couldn’t help but take a glance at Sharon, who had the same hairstyle as the little girl.
Without Sharon’s reminder, Lin Lin also knew that the young City Lord was slowly coming down the stairs. He seemed to be trying to grow a fancy old-fashioned beard, which made him look a bit odd. His face looked both old and young at the same time.
Lin Lin was grateful that he had given up this attempt as he grew older.
Unlike Lin Lin and Sharon, who always seemed kind, the City Lord looked very serious. When his stern gaze swept over her, Lin Lin couldn’t help but sit up straighter.
Among the three new servants, Lin Lin looked the most reliable and respectful. The City Lord nodded at Lin Lin and then spoke to the head maid, "I need to go out, so Roslyn will be in your care."
The head maid quickly agreed and skillfully lifted the little girl who was following the City Lord by the waist, "The City Lord has important matters to attend to, please be patient, Miss."
The girl immediately began to struggle, her short arms flailing in the air as she tried to hit the head maid on the head. She shouted repeatedly, "Bulwo! I command you to put me down!"
Clearly, the head maid was already very familiar with her struggles and could handle it easily, "Sorry, but being crazy and screaming won’t help. We have a deaf maid among the new staff, and she is perfect for keeping you company."
Lin Lin was gradually getting used to everyone teasing Arthur about this, and Arthur seemed to be even more so.
To Lin Lin’s surprise, the little girl Roslyn looked at Arthur, following the head maid Bulwo’s cue, and questioned, "Isn’t he a boy? Why is he also a maid?"
Good question! Such a good question!
Lin Lin was shocked. At first, she thought this was the world from the City Lord’s memory or some fantasy world, so having a male head maid was unavoidable. She did not expect that the characters here could actually notice this blind spot.
In other words! It’s really strange that this Bulwo became the head maid!
Bulwo shook his head with a serious expression, "Male servants have no appeal compared to female servants!"
Lin Lin: …Please don’t speak your preferences so loudly.
–
"We have now become the City Lord’s servants," Sharon said with a serious expression.
The servants’ rooms were located at the back of the entrance hall, two people to a room. Lin Lin and Sharon naturally shared one room, while Arthur had a room by himself.
At that moment, Arthur, who was supposed to enjoy his own room, sat on the edge of his bed with wide, lifeless eyes, while the other empty bed was occupied by the two girls.
"And he is the ‘former City Lord,’" Lin Lin added, "his daughter is only six years old and has not passed away."
"I think we are now trapped in a fantasy world created by the City Lord," Sharon pointed to the sky outside.
Although the sky was dark as the sun set, it was very clear that both outside and inside the mansion, we were in an above-ground environment.
The sea water that bubbles without speaking and the schools of fish that might accidentally bump into us.
Lin Lin suddenly understood, "Compared to other places filled with fish, is this the place he chooses to stay?"
Sharon nodded, "The current question is whether the City Lord we see here is the real City Lord and what is going on with that suspicious head maid."
"Right!" Lin Lin said excitedly, "I also think he is very suspicious!"
After all, this person is really showing off by wearing a three-piece suit on the beach!
"Yes," Sharon stroked her chin, "you see, the fantasy City Lord has become younger, but this Bulwo looks exactly the same as when we saw him in the Church of the God of Light. It feels like his face hasn’t changed at all over the years."
"Is this a serious reasoning?" Lin Lin silently swallowed her thoughts.
"Is it an Immortal species? A demon, a Dragon race?" Lin Lin reviewed the races she remembered that represented the Immortal species.
"This is hard to guess," Sharon sighed, "We can only try our best to get information from him."
"Let’s also use the City Lord’s memories to see what happened in the past," Lin Lin agreed, "After all, it is difficult to complete such a large task with just the City Lord, who is only human."
Lin Lin and Sharon were analyzing, and the true owner of the room quietly covered his mouth with his hand and yawned.
The two ladies looked sharply at him, and Arthur managed to hold back another yawn.
When Lin Lin looked at him, she noticed the uniform hanging on the coat rack behind him.
At first, she didn’t pay attention when she entered, but now Lin Lin noticed that the uniform Bulwo sent in the afternoon was said to be specially tailored for them, and Arthur’s was also a maid’s dress.
"Are you going to wear a dress tomorrow too?" Lin Lin asked the obvious question.
Arthur nodded repeatedly.
He felt no mental burden. Lin Lin and Sharon exchanged a glance, both understanding this sentence through each other’s eyes.
Is it the difference in views between orcas and humans?
I really want to remind him, but I also want to see him in a skirt.
Finally, Lin Lin looked at him with a determined expression and said, "You also have to wear the white lace headband; it’s a complete set."
Lin Lin and Sharon returned to the room to wash up.
Sharon clearly had never lived with anyone else, so she was quite excited when she learned it was a shared room for two.
"Miss Lin, do you have experience living with others?" Sharon was curious when she saw Lin Lin skillfully organizing the spaces and arranging their toiletries.
"We were not just two people," Lin Lin recalled her university life, "We lived together as six."
The number of six people clearly broke Sharon’s imagination, "Huh?"
The young lady was very puzzled, "Do they live in a big room? Our family’s servants usually share rooms for four."
Lin Lin said, "It’s not as tough as you think. We lived there while going to school, with our beds and desks in the same space, not several people squeezed into one bed."
Sharon had finished washing up and was sitting cross-legged on her bed, tilting her head to watch Lin Lin come out of the bathroom, "In our school, everyone has their own room because living together can easily lead to accidents."
"Living together can indeed cause conflicts; sometimes little things can start arguments," Lin Lin agreed.
"It’s not just conflicts," Sharon corrected her, "because more than half the students are troublemakers. To prevent students from dying for no reason, they try not to put them together."
Did you just say something scary?
Lin Lin sat on the edge of the bed, tilting her face up while gently massaging her skin with oil, "That doesn’t sound like a school, it sounds like a battlefield."
Sharon was stunned for two seconds by Lin Lin’s words and finally smiled a little, "It does seem quite bad, because I am Norman’s sister, and my school life is a bit special."
Lin Lin’s gossip radar instantly activated, and her eyes brightened, "Is it like the storyline where all the popular boys in school protect you?"
This kind of plot is very boring in TV shows, but it seems much more interesting in real life.
"Huh?" Sharon clearly showed a puzzled expression, "Why would others protect me?"
Lin Lin, "…Didn’t you say Norman fits the typical knight stereotype? I guess he must have been very impressive in school?"
"He really excelled in academics," Sharon clearly recalled some not-so-pleasant memories, "but he was quite unpopular at school. I often got surrounded and asked, ‘Are you that arrogant Norman’s sister?’"
Sharon crossed her arms, mimicking the haughty tone others used with her.
Lin Lin had a complicated expression.
Sharon added, "Norman is the type who cheerfully reminds the teacher, ‘You forgot to assign homework!’"
Lin Lin instantly understood; people like that really find it hard to win a good reputation among their peers.
–
The price of staying up late gossiping joyfully is that the two maids have dark circles under their eyes the next morning.
Both Lin Lin, who is used to a nine-to-five routine at the Demon King Castle, and Sharon, the daughter of a noble family, have rarely faced the hardship of waking up early lately.
"No way, this is just not acceptable," Bulwo sighed heavily as he looked at the two who could barely keep their eyes open. "Maids must be full of energy!"
As an adult man, you are really too energetic this early in the morning.
Lin Lin and Sharon both covered their ears to avoid being deafened by the head maid’s loud voice.
However, unexpectedly, they thought that seeing Arthur fall asleep the moment they left his room yesterday would make him bright and alert this morning, but Arthur was the last one to arrive.
Lin Lin and Sharon had already been scolded and received their punishment, so they felt very at ease covering their ears and looking back.
The last maid to arrive wore her headband askew and was busy fastening the buttons at her collar with both hands.
Lin Lin, "Are you the high school girl who grabs a piece of bread and runs to the school gate in the morning?"
You look very much like the main character.
