Chapter 42: Will He Die Like This?
Can this world make a law to stop orcas from demanding people to touch them?
Lin Lin had never been to the beach before, but with her common sense, she thought that in the last world, there shouldn’t be a situation where humans were forcefully asked by orcas to touch them.
Lin Lin’s curiosity started with a gentle touch, but by the end, her hands had become quite mechanical as she rubbed, while the two orcas lined up like they were in a never-ending queue.
Hello, have you ever seen a fire hydrant bursting on the side of the road in modern society?
The water from the hydrant sprays onto the road, and cars keep coming back just for a free car wash.
Lin Lin felt like she was that bursting fire hydrant or a factory worker on an assembly line.
Two orcas lined up to receive a massage from her, as if there was no end.
Come and take these two away, to study the perpetual motion machine!
When Lin Lin felt tired and bored, and let her hands fall, the orca would nudge her arm and palm with its round head.
Damn! Why! Why is this happening! Don’t these two ever get tired?
When Lin Lin finally refused to serve, no matter how Allen rubbed his orca head against her palm, her heart felt as cold as a fish that had been dead for ten years. Allen turned back into human form; he was already floating on the sea, and naturally reached out to hold Lin Lin’s waist, burying his face in her soft waist and belly, and sighed, "Why don’t you let me touch…"
Before Allen could finish his sentence, Lin Lin firmly pressed his head down into the water with her determined eyes.
The orca looked quite cute doing this, but in human form, it became rather unpleasant.
Lin Lin watched as the head she pressed down let out a series of bubbles.
Lin Lin looked up at Arthur, who had also turned into human form, with a calm expression, "Will he die like this?"
Arthur shook his head gently.
Then Arthur came to Lin Lin’s side and, with a puzzled look from Lin Lin, pushed Allen’s head down into the deeper part of the water.
Ah, there’s no need to show how to really kill your brother.
Even though I know that whales can hold their breath for half an hour, this scene still looks too cruel.
Until Allen struggled to stand up, taking a big breath, his already pale skin flushed red around his ears and neck after just a few deep breaths.
Lin Lin noticed that Allen’s hair was completely soaked, while Arthur’s hair seemed only slightly damp in comparison.
"Your hair will get wet too," Lin Lin said curiously as she reached out to touch Allen’s cool strands of hair.
"Of course," Allen said, showing no interest in his own body. He ran his fingers through his wet hair, pushing it back to show his forehead and create a new slicked-back hairstyle, "It’s just hard to get completely wet normally."
Lin Lin had a look of having learned something new.
"There are no fish underwater," Allen began to explain after coughing a couple of times about the findings of orcas, "Not just fish, but even seaweed and shellfish are hard to see."
"So," Lin Lin frowned slightly, "is the water underneath… empty?"
This realization is very strange.
Lin Lin herself did not dare to go into the deep water, one reason was fear of drowning, and the other was a fear of the deep ocean. The less she saw below, the more she felt there might be terrifying creatures beyond her imagination.
And now, Allen’s answer gave her another worry. Because this is unnatural.
"You could say that," Allen smiled slightly, repeating Lin Lin’s word softly, "’empty.’"
Under the hot sun, the cool sea water splashed against the skin, bringing refreshment.
Then, Lin Lin saw the dark eyes of the two orcas in front of her shining with a faint blue light and their slightly opened sharp teeth.
"Such a scene is truly unpleasant."
Lin Lin quietly moved away from these two creatures, which had already spread a black mist in the shape of orcas behind them.
It was a scene that touched the hearts of sea creatures.
–
"Anyway, this city has problems," Lin Lin told the hero team about what she discovered during the day, "So you all should be a little careful."
"Actually… the empty sea is safer than the sea with monsters," Sandy, being the brave one, said something quite provocative in front of the orcas.
"What do you mean by the sea with monsters?" Allen’s blue eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Alright, alright," Lin Lin covered Allen’s eyes and gave Sandy a look, "That is the normal sea, the normal sea."
Sandy completely missed Lin Lin’s hint and took a bite of her popsicle, "Do you need my help?"
Lin Lin pulled her hand back, "Do you want to help?"
"After all, it affects people’s lives," Sandy said, "Maybe it’s the Demon King’s curse?"
Lin Lin quietly rubbed her forehead, already getting used to Sandy putting all the unreasonable blame on the Demon King.
The weak Demon King is still in the room trying to stay cool.
Allen stroked his chin, "It’s not impossible, after all, the Demon King is very good at spells."
"Don’t just follow someone else’s thoughts!" Lin Lin pulled back the one who was about to betray.
"Let him help you tomorrow; after all, he has nothing to do," Sharon said.
Lin Lin caught the hidden information, "What are you going to do tomorrow?"
Sharon counted on her fingers, "I need to buy some healing potions and go to the church. I still haven’t found the cat. If I have time, I want to try looking for the cat again, even though the deadline for the mission has already passed."
Sharon listed a few small things. It was clear she might have had a disagreement with Sandy about the plans.
"The Church of the God of Light here is completely abandoned," Sandy shrugged, "I really don’t know if she wants to pray or go on a ghost adventure."
Sharon held up the magic wand, which began to glow softly.
After seeing Sharon’s action, Sandy added, "Sharon is truly a great mage, still devoted even in a city where faith has crumbled."
Sharon released the magic wand.
Lin Lin noticed that while Sandy could provoke the orca and ignore Lin Lin’s silent hints, she was careful when it came to Sharon.
Lin Lin glanced at the glowing magic wand again; maybe Sharon really would use it against him.
"Can I join you tomorrow?" Lin Lin pointed towards the orca, "What they are doing might be very dangerous, and I do not want to be part of it."
Allen showed a hurt expression.
"Of course!" Sharon’s sea-blue eyes sparkled, "We can go to a great restaurant together, and I can help you choose a beginner-friendly magic wand! It’s my first time hanging out with a girl alone."
Lin Lin’s eyes also lit up as she linked fingers with her, "There are so many pretty little things in the accessory store! I saw some very realistic-looking wigs."
The two girls sweetly planned what to do tomorrow.
The men at the wooden table were quiet for a moment.
Sandy, "Well, actually, I don’t really want to help tomorrow. Can I join you?"
Allen, "I can wear a wig too!"
"No." Both requests were firmly declined.
Arthur, who couldn’t speak, appeared even more calm as he gently shook his head and blew away the steam from the hot soup.
As Lin Lin returned to the room, a moth flew towards her face.
Lin Lin reached out and pinched the king’s wing, "Are you feeling better?"
During the day at the beach, he was like a melting ice cream.
"It’s back, it’s back!" The king anxiously flew to Lin Lin’s shoulder and touched the Demon King Imprint to absorb energy, then let out a heavy sigh of relief.
"I brought you dinner," Lin Lin said as she took out a cup from her hand, which was filled with creamy mushroom soup.
A moth began to fly next to the teacup like a "bumblebee collecting nectar."
Lin Lin rested her chin on her hand and looked at him, "Tomorrow I’m going out with Sharon; it’s a girls’ gathering."
The king raised his furry head, "Do I need to wear a dress tomorrow?"
"A girls’ gathering doesn’t mean you have to wear a dress. It means you can keep resting or hang out with Arthur and the others," Lin Lin replied. "Sharon and I have many things to do."
The king nodded, not fully understanding, "Oh."
Then he saw Lin Lin open her suitcase and start to carefully choose what clothes to wear tomorrow, which was completely different from her usual loose and relaxed style.
The king hesitated for a moment and said as he flew behind Lin Lin, "Why not take me along? I can put on lipstick."
"No, no one expects you to wear lipstick."
–
Lin Lin and Sharon set off very early, even earlier than some of the boys with important tasks.
According to Sharon, going to church in the morning feels more sincere, especially when you visit the statue just as the sun rises, giving you a chance to be heard by the gods.
"I understand," Lin Lin completely agreed, "after all, it’s the God of Light."
"Right?" Sharon was happy to be understood, "If I tell you, you’ll get it. But Sandy would say the God of Light only wakes up at noon when the sun is the brightest."
Well… he has his own logic for that.
Lin Lin patted Sharon’s shoulder, "It’s probably because he doesn’t believe in this, so he is a bit dismissive."
"It’s more than just disbelief," Sharon gritted her teeth, "it’s downright blasphemy."
Thinking of this, Sharon looked at Lin Lin, "What is your faith?"
Good question.
Like Sandy, Lin Lin believes in no one.
"In my hometown, we do not have this belief in gods," Lin Lin said vaguely.
Sharon showed an understanding look, "Because no one hears the voice of the gods."
This statement surprised Lin Lin, "Have you ever heard the voice of the God of Light?"
Perhaps because of the knights’ careful habits, even though Lin Lin had stayed in the Paladin group for a while, Norman would not discuss deeper matters related to the God of Light with her.
But Lin Lin knew that the people who could hear the voice of the gods were very rare. In her mind, only the highest priests and the Holy Maiden could hear the voice of the gods.
After all, in the novels she had read, the Holy Maiden was almost always the messenger of the gods’ will.
Lin Lin asked plainly, and Sharon lowered her gaze. Then, she leaned closer to Lin Lin and whispered in her ear, "I have listened to the voice of the Divine."
After saying this, Sharon leaned back slightly, returning to a normal distance between them.
Sharon looked at Lin Lin, feeling nervous about sharing a secret, unsure if Lin Lin would believe her.
Lin Lin looked at Sharon in shock, "Aren’t the followers of the God of Light looking for the Holy Maiden?"
Sharon had not only heard the voice of the Divine but also had light-type magic, so she felt she could easily skip the Holy Maiden auditions and make it to the top three in the nation.
"Yes, that’s why I can only pray to the God of Light in remote places." Sharon reached out and shook hands with Lin Lin.
Lin Lin noticed Sharon’s hand was trembling, not out of fear, but it seemed to be more excitement about going out into the world.
After a moment of hesitation, Lin Lin asked, "Does Sandy know?"
Sharon smiled, and the sunlight shone in her eyes, "He was the one who brought me out."
