Chapter 40: Clearly Not Very Popular
In the dark rain, Lin Lin sat on the bench in the gazebo, waiting for Arthur to return.
The little one peeked out from the bag, looking around.
Then it crawled out of the bag and began to make ginger tea.
Lin Lin was too tired to complain about "how much stuff did you bring" or "is your magic wasted on such silly things."
The king finished making the ginger tea, flew in front of Lin Lin, and handed her the ginger tea.
Lin Lin pinched the tiny teacup that was smaller than her mouth, and then she saw the king had a towel the same size as others, starting to wipe her hair.
A drop in the bucket.
Lin Lin watched him busily working, but in the end, she didn’t know what he was so busy with.
When the king held the towel to wipe her bangs, Lin Lin felt the scene was somewhat familiar.
After all, when she came back from her hot spring trip, she also encountered heavy rain, and the Demon King held a pink towel over her head to wipe it.
"Wait a moment," Lin Lin reached out and took the keychain that had flown onto her bangs, holding it in her hand.
The king’s little figure was very cute and felt like soft rubber that was squished and changed shape.
After being held by Lin Lin, His Majesty’s Little Devil wings folded away, and he looked at Lin Lin with eyes like purple grapes.
Lin Lin frowned slightly, "Your signal with the Demon King hasn’t connected yet, right?"
His Majesty raised his red cheeks, rubbed by Lin Lin, and patiently explained, "I am the Demon King."
Hmm… It feels strange that he is the same whether small or big, Lin Lin thought it was a bit odd.
But upon careful thought, it has been proven for two hundred years that the Demon King cannot leave the Demon King Castle, so he can’t just come out suddenly.
"Alright," Lin Lin brought His Majesty closer to her, looking him in the eye, "just don’t get sick, okay? I don’t know how to take care of you."
"I won’t get sick!" His Majesty reached out both hands to Lin Lin, "I just need to recharge my magic regularly."
After saying this, His Majesty flew back to Lin Lin’s neck, sticking close to the Demon King Imprint with the band-aid.
Lin Lin suddenly realized that Your Majesty the Demon King hadn’t appeared in keychain form before, possibly because he didn’t have her as a portable power source.
Lin Lin’s gaze shifted to the light rain outside the pavilion. Unlike last night, she did not see the mist on the ground.
Perhaps she was mistaken last night; after all, it was her first day here, and she was very tired at that time.
Arthur did not make Lin Lin wait long; he returned holding a large black umbrella.
Lin Lin stared at the umbrella, feeling it was best not to ask where it came from; she only needed to make sure that Arthur would return it.
Lin Lin’s sense of morality was getting lower and lower.
The king had closed his eyes and was resting on Lin Lin’s shoulder.
Lin Lin turned to look at the orca coming through the light rain, holding the black umbrella.
He looked very much like a human.
Since coming to this world, Lin Lin often felt very strange. Only the officials at Demon King Castle knew she was a human from another world, while the real human residents here felt very unfamiliar to her.
The killer whale not only has teeth that are very similar to humans, but they also have short black hair. This appearance makes him look more like the men Lin Lin can almost touch in real life.
Lin Lin stared at Arthur, as if she was looking through him to remember the past world that was beginning to blur, until he tilted his head slightly in confusion.
Lin Lin stood up and walked to him, "Let’s go back!"
When they returned to the Blue Ocean Hotel, the lobby was very lively.
For some reason, Allen and Sandy connected on many levels. When Lin Lin walked in, he was wearing Sandy’s single eye patch.
With a serious face, Allen put his hand on his forehead, "It was darkness that chose me, and I am the terrifying giant beast in the abyss."
Sandy clapped for him, "Great! Brother! That’s it! You truly have talent!"
As Lin Lin stepped through the door, she suddenly felt an urge to leave; why was it so noisy as soon as she returned?
"Aren’t you going to do something about it?" Lin Lin looked at Arthur behind her, "He has become someone else’s brother."
Arthur silently looked away, clearly not wanting to see his brother at that moment.
Lin Lin could not understand why Allen, who was always so noisy, had so many friends.
It was really strange.
"Lin! You’re back!" Allen, wearing a blindfold, happily pounced on Lin Lin.
Lin Lin quickly bent down to dodge and sat next to Sharon.
Allen ran headfirst into the door frame.
Clearly, Sharon had been forced to watch this silly drama for quite a while. She probably didn’t expect anyone to cooperate with Sandy like this, going from speechless to feeling disgusted at the mess.
Lin Lin, "You look like you’re going to be sick. Are you okay?"
Sharon couldn’t understand, "Why is this kind of thing popular now?"
"It obviously isn’t popular," Lin Lin replied calmly, "it’s just that those two are not normal."
"Huh?"
After Lin Lin finished speaking, Sharon looked shocked, "Didn’t you say that this trendy tone and gestures are very popular among young people now?"
"Of course not! This is not trendy at all!" Lin Lin couldn’t help but complain, "What kind of young lady are you who came out from some deep courtyard? Have you been cut off from the world since birth? That set of gestures from Sandy looks like something only a silly person would do!"
Why, why does she still have to teach others common sense in this world?
Could it be that none of the people she meets are normal?
Lin Lin began to doubt whether the problem was with her or with the world.
When Allen took away Sandy’s eye mask, Lin Lin finally had a chance to see what the other eye under Sandy’s mask looked like.
According to the stories and comics Lin Lin usually reads, the eye under the mask was likely a very unusual color, or had star or moon patterns, in short, it looked like the kind of eye that had a story to tell.
Then Sandy, who was teased and mistreated since he was little because of his unique eye, gained great strength from it. Once he learned to fully use the power of this magical eye, he could finally tell others proudly that he was the chosen one.
Yes, this is a story of a true hero’s growth journey.
Lin Lin leaned in to look at Sandy.
The boy noticed her gaze and looked back at her with attention.
Lin Lin suddenly stood up, "You don’t even have mismatched eyes!"
Aren’t both of your eyes exactly the same amber color? And that color is quite ordinary in this world!
So why wear an eye patch on one eye? What is the purpose of wearing it?
In sharp contrast to Lin Lin’s shock, Sandy rested his chin on his hand and responded calmly, "Why should I have mismatched eyes?"
Lin Lin slowly sat back down, feeling a wave of tiredness.
She was never this tired in the rain; now she truly feels exhausted in her heart.
She has no more problems; she just wants to sleep and never wake up again.
In sharp contrast to Lin Lin’s tiredness, Allen was very curious about whether Lin Lin and the others encountered the bad things the boss had mentioned, even though they stayed outside late at night, "Didn’t a sea monster grab you?"
Lin Lin, "…Yesterday, the boss just said it was not advisable to go out at night. How much have you imagined in your head?"
Sandy nodded slightly; he agreed more with Allen’s opinion, "This kind of weather is indeed suspicious; it completely goes against natural laws. It could be the work of the Demon King’s minions!"
No, the Demon King’s minions, including the Demon King himself, are sitting here with you, studying the weather problems of this city.
"Even if for a moment, let’s say it was the Demon King’s minions," Lin Lin sincerely asked, "then what is their goal?"
After Lin Lin’s question, the orcas were also very curious and looked at Sandy together.
The young hero thought for a moment, "If everyone stays indoors at night, then they can go out openly at night and steal everyone’s things."
Ah… I originally wanted to argue strongly, but because I really did steal someone else’s sweet potatoes, Lin Lin couldn’t say anything.
Instead, Sharon spoke with some disbelief, full of sarcasm, "What did you steal? Sweet potatoes, bread?"
Lin Lin silently held her chest, feeling two arrows pierce her heart.
The king gently reached out and patted her face.
–
Unlike last night’s heavy rain, the morning turned into a bright and fresh day.
When Lin Lin came down from the second floor, she ran into Sandy and Sharon, who were just about to leave.
"Are you leaving so early today?" Lin Lin asked.
"There’s no choice," Sharon sighed, her magic wand flickering slowly because of her mixed feelings, "the cat is still missing, and today is the last day."
Lin Lin looked at him with sympathy; it seemed that these five gold coins were quite hard to earn.
A familiar vegetable salad made her mind suddenly wake up.
Lin Lin quietly stuffed the salad into her mouth, thinking about how much the poor business of this inn was affected by the vegetable salad.
Lin Lin saw the owner bringing down two pots of green plants from the second floor.
Because dwarfs are quite short, Lin Lin always felt the urge to help them.
She went downstairs and took a pot of green plants from the dwarf owner; the plant in her hands had turned a sickly yellow. Lin Lin gently brushed the dry leaves and placed the plant on the front desk, watching the owner climb onto a chair and trim the leaves with scissors.
"Is this plant really that delicate?" Lin Lin had always thought most green plants were easy to take care of.
The dwarf owner shook his head, "It should be a very hardy plant; it just turns yellow easily here."
Lin Lin raised an eyebrow, "Here? Are you talking about this port city?"
"Yes," the dwarf boss replied, "maybe it is because the humidity by the sea is too high. When I lived underground, these plants grew very well."
The dwarf indeed lived underground before.
A book Lin Lin read said that dwarfs care a lot about their clans, "So why did you move here?"
The boss looked up.
Maybe because of his height, most of the time, the boss does not look at people when he talks, but this time he looked up, allowing Lin Lin to see the other half of his face that was not hidden by his large beard.
The boss’s gaze was very calm, "Because someone wants to build a hotel by the sea."
Lin Lin was taken aback.
She then remembered that, although the whole house was rather low, the front desk and the tables and chairs in the lobby were at a comfortable height for ordinary-sized beings to use.
This means that the dwarf, who values his race, left his family and turned away from his underground living habits because someone wanted to open a hotel by the sea, so he came here and started this hotel with that person.
But now, the owner of this inn is all alone.
–
Finally starting to work, Lin Lin felt a sense of relief.
Wearing her wide-brimmed hat that she bought early, Lin Lin and her friends headed to the fishing grounds.
Even though they had bought other clothes, the orcas seemed to really like the flower shirts Lin Lin gave them, so the group of street performers continued to go out.
Lin Lin put on her sunglasses; she really felt embarrassed.
Soon, Lin Lin discovered that the flower shirts did not cause any negative effects, because the orcas knew a lot about fish.
Allen casually said a few words and then chatted endlessly with the fishermen about the recent conditions of the ocean and the movements of the fish schools.
With just a few words, the fishermen truly saw him as a wealthy big boss with poor fashion sense who knew a lot about fish.
Allen could even easily chat with the fishermen and learn about the current fishing conditions at Padre Port.
For a moment, Lin Lin felt very unnecessary.
In the end, she found a shady spot and sat by the sea with a mute orca, who was just as useless.
This area was not a tourist spot, so there were fewer people.
Lin Lin took a deep breath, inhaling the humid and warm air.
"I’ve never seen the sea before," Lin Lin said to Arthur, turning to him.
The moment she turned around, Arthur was already staring at her lips, waiting for her to speak.
After Lin Lin said this, Arthur also looked towards the vast ocean, a blend of blue and white.
He pointed at Lin Lin, then at the ocean, moving one hand to mimic fish swimming in the water.
"Do you mean I can go into the water?" Lin Lin asked him for confirmation.
Arthur nodded gently.
"But that’s still a little difficult," Lin Lin waved her hand, "You are orcas, so you don’t really understand. Humans who live on land for a long time have a great respect for the ocean. Because we are not familiar with it, we are afraid of accidents."
The young man’s thin eyelids lifted slightly, and Arthur pointed to himself.
Lin Lin realized what he meant.
Even though she always talked about orcas, she still viewed the two brothers with a human mindset. They were true sea creatures, so it felt safe around them. The ocean was truly their homeland.
Lin Lin couldn’t help but smile; she could confirm again and again every day that this was a world beyond her understanding.
"Brother! Lin!" Allen called their names. He had gotten a pair of black sunglasses from a fisherman, which made him look even more like a tough guy.
Lin Lin turned her head and saw the orca jumping in the sunlight, waving at them.
Lin Lin thought it was wonderful that he had so much energy. In her previous world, orcas were such happy and free creatures.
