Chapter 35: I Just Wanted to Go Crazy
"Safir said he has nothing else to teach you."
Lin Lin relayed Safir’s words to the Demon King.
The Demon King, who was originally sitting at his desk with the "Pass" stamp in hand, showed a carefree smile, "Is that so… Has he finally given up on me?"
Lin Lin, "…You really were in such a bad situation before; there’s no need to be so pessimistic!"
Unlike Lin Lin’s thoughts, the Demon King clearly had a strong sense of self-awareness.
The deeply affected Your Majesty the Demon King began to sway.
Before the thin and weak Demon King turned into a sleeping beauty who was truly unconscious, Lin Lin quickly grabbed the seal from his hands to prevent it from leaving a mark on the document.
No way! If this document gets thrown away because of a wrong seal, the world will have another unlucky employee who has to write a duplicate document!
Lin Lin absolutely cannot let this happen!
Without Lin Lin’s support, Your Majesty the Demon King bumped his head against the cold, hard table covered in papers, his fluffy curly hair shook, and a weak voice from the Demon King said, "Lin, am I not as important as the seal?"
Lin Lin put the seal away, "Sorry, but the seal is really important. Whether it gets damaged or leaves ink on the document, it would be quite a disaster."
The Demon King’s muffled voice came out, "…Isn’t my blood going to stain the document?"
Lin Lin: …!!!
Lin Lin lifted the fuzzy head of the Demon King from the desk and carefully checked for blood stains.
There were no traces of blood.
In fact, there were no red marks or dents on his forehead; it was a completely clean and full face.
The Demon King smiled softly, "Because my skin is very thick, I can avoid getting hurt."
Lin Lin emotionlessly pressed his face back down onto the table.
"Alright, I know I was wrong," the Demon King said sincerely with his face buried in the documents.
Lin Lin lifted his head again.
After two big spins, Your Majesty the Demon King felt dizzy, with Lin Lin holding his cheeks in her hands, and his long eyelashes fluttered.
The long, continuous light rain made the Demon King Castle damp and stuffy, and the air felt heavy too.
The Demon King felt the gentle breath of the human woman brush against his cheek.
Because they were very close to each other.
Then, the Demon King opened his eyes and saw Lin Lin’s focused gaze.
She was looking down at him.
Lin Lin had black hair and black eyes.
In the demon world, black hair is also a rare combination, as in most cases, a demon race with this hair color is the Demon King. The Demon King had stared at those jet-black strands more than once.
This was a small bird with colors similar to his; it was weak but could stretch its wings and fly to places that piqued her curiosity.
The Demon King was always very willing for Lin Lin to go out and see more.
And now, this little bird used her fingers to push aside his black hair that covered his face, making him tilt his head up to look at her.
Behind Lin Lin, the rain outside Demon King Castle was still falling, while white lightning flashed in the dark sky.
The bright light made the violet eyes narrow slightly.
"Every time I try to talk to you about going out, you change the subject," Lin Lin said, "I need to correct one of your ideas."
"If you have never left Demon King Castle."
"Then you have no right to ‘volunteer’ to stay here."
"Your volunteering is ridiculous."
–
Ah… I’m being disliked.
Lin Lin yawned as she sat in the office for the first time in a long while, organizing her overdue work while trying to push away the slime curled up at her feet.
It has been two days since I last saw Your Majesty the Demon King.
Or maybe she was having a cold war with the Demon King.
The word "maybe" was used because Lin Lin herself wasn’t very sure.
That day, after Lin Lin said, "Your willingness is absurd," she felt an unusually strong wind lift her up. Before she could reach out to grab the Demon King’s clothes, she was safely and gently carried to her own bedroom door by this wind.
Lin Lin: …Isn’t this guy supposed to know many spells? Why haven’t I seen him use any before?
A slime that had been pushed away tried to climb onto Lin Lin’s leg, while a warm little flame brushed against Lin Lin’s sleeve.
"You are really warm," Lin Lin cuddled this warm and heavy creature, "Holding you makes me sleepy; be careful of your flame’s temperature."
The Flame Slime turned down its flame a bit and finally found a comfortable spot on Lin Lin’s leg.
Lin Lin bound the thick certificates together and began to wrap the outer layer with a cover.
"What are you doing?" a person who had never known the purpose of knocking walked in boldly, "This is bad, Your Majesty the Demon King hasn’t worked for two days!"
"Isn’t it normal for him not to work?" Lin Lin replied to Allen, while continuing to glue the paper to the certificate leather. "Maybe he has a stomach ache?"
"It’s not normal at all, so my brother asked me to ask you," Allen said as he sat on a small stool in front of Lin Lin’s desk. His attention was soon grabbed by Lin Lin, "What are you doing?"
"I’m covering the certificates," Lin Lin looked up. "Do you want to try?"
Indeed, Allen completely forgot about the Demon King topic and rolled up his sleeves to start working freely for Lin Lin.
"That’s great! You did it really well!"
"Oh my, your certificate leather is folded so neatly! You must be a paper folding genius!"
"Allen, you are the most understanding colleague I have ever met."
Without even glancing at Allen, Lin Lin could respond instantly. After all, the previous most understanding colleague, Felix, couldn’t hear their conversation.
Allen huffed and puffed as he stacked five or six certificates together, looking very accomplished. "I still have some talent after all."
Lin Lin clapped her hands behind him.
Seeing the clock hanging on the wall, Allen suddenly woke up, "Oh no."
"Hmm?" Lin Lin glanced over. Did she remember to ask about the Demon King?
Allen, "It’s time to eat."
Lin Lin, "…Should we go eat something?"
Today, there was again the expected stew, and Lin Lin had a big appetite, eating two large bowls.
But she took too long eating; even the orca brothers had finished their meals before she slowly swallowed her last bite.
Lin Lin began to eat fruit salad with a blank expression.
Arthur, sitting next to her, gently shook his head.
"My brother asked why you argued with the Demon King," Allen began, "Oh my, you argued with His Majesty?"
Lin Lin continued to eat her fruit.
"Why?" If it weren’t for the table in the way, Allen could have leaned right over to Lin Lin, "Isn’t His Majesty never angry with anyone? What did you do? You didn’t steal his honey, did you?"
That guy’s bottom line is too cheap! Is honey really that important? It makes him look so unimportant in front of his followers!
"I didn’t argue with him," Lin Lin looked up, "You see, I’m feeling very calm and my appetite is great, and the Demon King is already an adult. He has the right to take a break and rest."
"Oh," Allen clearly had more to say, but after glancing at Arthur beside Lin Lin, he chose to remain silent.
Until Lin Lin finished her fruit and left, Allen spoke before she exited the hall, "The Demon King asked you to join us for the seafood sale event."
Lin Lin asked, "When did the Demon King say that?"
Allen looked at Arthur to confirm the time, "Today at noon."
Lin Lin said, "Very good."
Allen quietly took a step back.
–
I can’t sleep, Lin Lin thought, maybe I ate too much during the day.
I can’t sleep at all, so I don’t feel very good.
It is raining outside, so I don’t feel very good either.
The trees outside look very dark, so I feel even worse.
Lin Lin got up and stared at the ticking hour and minute hands.
Until the sky showed a little bit of warm color.
In the rainy sky, the difference between day and night seemed very small, and Lin Lin was already able to change clothes on time for work.
The Flame Slime, waiting at the door for scraps of paper or cloth, opened its mouth as Lin Lin pushed open the bedroom door.
Lin Lin looked down and asked the slime, "Has the king gotten up?"
The slime replied, confused, "Zzi zzi?"
This was the first time in a few days that Lin Lin asked about the king.
Lin Lin arrived at the door of the Demon King’s bedroom.
Lin Lin had to admit that even though she sometimes complained about Allen not knocking, it turned out to be quite nice not to knock.
The king’s bedroom door was not locked, after all, there were no foolish creatures that would dare to challenge the highest authority of the Demon King Castle.
Lin Lin pushed the door open expressionlessly.
At the moment she walked in, the candles in the Demon King’s bedroom, which were controlled by sound, lit up one by one, sparkling like the shimmering light on a dark lake.
Beneath the heavy curtains was the "Princess and the Pea," sleeping in the cozy bed.
The Demon King curled up, uncomfortable with the light, burying his head deep into the soft pillow.
Lin Lin lifted the layers of the curtains and said, "Time to get up."
Just getting close to the bed, one could smell a sweet, dessert-like scent that was too rich.
The creature, surrounded by blankets, curled up even tighter upon hearing Lin Lin’s voice, saying, "I’m taking a day off today."
"You can’t take a day off today," Lin Lin said. "You’ve already rested for two days. Let’s pretend those two days were the weekend. Unless you took a vacation or comp time, you have to go to work as usual."
"Then I’ll take a vacation!" said a muffled voice from under the blankets.
"That’s fine," Lin Lin said, "but if you want to take a vacation, you need to fill out the leave form now."
There was no response under the blanket anymore, so Lin Lin reached out to pull aside the soft, fluffy blanket.
Like cutting a bitter lotus seed from layers of blooming lotus flowers.
After the Demon King finally lost his reliable, warm blanket, the young man with long hair and demon horns finally opened his violet eyes.
The Demon King looked at Lin Lin.
There were no expressions, both sides had no expressions.
There was neither a silly smile nor the usual teasing.
"I just won’t go to work! Who dares to tell me what to do!" the Demon King exclaimed, "I am the Demon King! I will see who dares to control me!"
Lin Lin replied, "The Employee Attendance Policy."
The Demon King stared wide-eyed with anger, "Tear up those rules! I don’t want any of them."
Lin Lin replied immediately, "Okay."
Lin Lin loosened a button on her shirt collar and moved her shoulders.
The previously angry Demon King paused in doubt and cautiously shrank away from Lin Lin.
Lin Lin took off her shoes and stepped onto the thick blanket.
Because it was too fluffy and soft, even staying balanced became difficult.
Stumbling in front of the Demon King, just as Lin Lin was about to fall, the Demon King reached out to catch her.
But Lin Lin pushed him away.
In contrast, Lin Lin, kneeling on the bed, reached out her hands to the Demon King, pressing him down by his neck and forcing him to lie back on the bed, making him listen to her.
The demon race also needs to breathe.
Lin Lin held the most noble demon of the demon realm, the owner of Demon King Castle, whose breathing was rapid due to a lack of oxygen, with veins straining on his neck.
"I thought about it all night," Lin Lin lowered her head, in the dim light of the candle, her black hair flowing down, blending with the Demon King’s long, curled hair spread on the bedsheet, "It’s your fault."
Violet colors reflected in her pitch-black eyes.
The mark of the Demon King resonated at that moment.
The harder Lin Lin gripped, the hotter the Demon King’s mark became on her neck.
Your Majesty the Demon King, whose throat she held, opened his eyes wide as his chest rose and fell.
"If you think the statement ‘your willingness is ridiculous’ is wrong, you should argue with me," Lin Lin said, "Why do you ignore me, and why do you talk to the orcas but not to me?"
Lin Lin said, "You know very well… I care about you."
After saying this, the strength that had just been used to restrain the Demon King finally faded away, her hands relaxed, and she felt drained.
After anger, there is feeling wronged.
Lin Lin pulled her hands back and slowly covered her eyes.
She was not crying, but her eyes felt a bit hot.
She thought she was quite mature, but sometimes she felt anxious in situations she couldn’t handle.
Then, Lin Lin felt a hard, unfamiliar tail slowly wrapping around her waist, while Your Majesty the Demon King reached out to pull her hands, as he had never experienced such a tight situation. He tried to bend down and see her expression from below.
"I’m sorry, please don’t be angry," a sweet, fragrant scent spread around her, "don’t be angry because what you said is right; that’s why I ran away."
The lotus petals that Lin Lin had pushed aside slowly closed, while the sweet demon race busily wrapped her in a quilt, just like he did when he felt anxious.
Lin Lin’s hands were finally pushed away by the Demon King.
She was not angry, but a few strands of bangs were sticking to her forehead.
Lin Lin had completely calmed down, "I just wanted to let loose a little, but now this situation is quite awkward."
"No, no, no," said the Demon King, "This is great! You look really good, and the way you had me in that hold was very impressive!"
