Chapter 32: Your Brother Needs to Get His Head Straight
Although Lin Lin couldn’t be called socially anxious, at that moment, her social skills were indeed limited.
Does anyone know how to communicate with a deaf and mute whale without using sign language?
Seeing that the orca brother Arthur could understand spoken language, Lin Lin asked, "What about your brother Allen?"
Lin Lin had never missed that pure troublemaker as much as she did now.
At least Allen could save her from this embarrassing situation.
However, Allen did not show up. Not only that, but when Arthur saw Lin Lin alone, he pointed at Demon King Castle, probably trying to say that Lin Lin needed to go back there.
"Uh, yes, I was just about to go back," Lin Lin replied.
For some reason, she felt a lively urge to adventure by the sea, only to be pushed back to the ground by a passing orca from the waves.
Arthur walked towards Lin Lin, and she instinctively raised the umbrella, wanting to shelter him under it too.
The young man shook his head and then looked at her. First her face, then her neck, and finally her hand tightly gripping the silver umbrella’s handle.
Lin Lin noticed that Arthur, like Allen, had a strong sense of aggression in his gaze, or rather, a coldness filled with ambition.
They had a strong desire to attack deep within their nature.
But unlike Allen, Arthur rarely took action; he seemed to be the more calm and reserved one.
Arthur reached out, signaling for Lin Lin to hand him the umbrella’s handle, so he could hold it and take her back.
Even wearing waterproof shoes, stepping into the water still felt the chill of the rain.
The journey was so quiet that Lin Lin felt uneasy, but if Arthur really spoke to her, it might not be awkward; it could be frightening instead.
When they reached the entrance of Demon King Castle, the Worgen guards stationed on either side didn’t wag their tails at Lin Lin like they usually did; instead, they stood rigidly, staring straight ahead as if afraid to meet their eyes.
Lin Lin: ?
As her shoes splashed through the puddles, Lin Lin smelled a faint whiff of rust, hidden by the mist.
When they reached the door of Demon King Castle, Lin Lin noticed a pale pink hue in the puddles at the entrance, as if red paint had mixed into the water.
Unlike Lin Lin’s hesitation, Arthur seemed to completely ignore those marks and stepped right into them.
The door to Demon King Castle swung open.
A strong smell of blood rushed toward them.
Lin Lin finally realized where her brother among the orcas was.
The bodies of the monsters were piled up like building blocks, each huge creature had large, torn marks on its throat.
"You’re late, brother."
The young man turned around, and the deep blue in his once brightly colored eyes shone frighteningly in the shadows.
Allen had the same pale face and lip color as Arthur, but now his light-colored lips were stained with bright red blood, and the color at the corners of his mouth looked like messy lipstick.
When Allen saw Lin Lin, his eyes sparkled even more; unlike the faint glow in the darkness, he seemed completely bright.
"Lin! It’s Lin! No wonder I couldn’t find you in the castle!" Allen eagerly reached out his arms to Lin Lin, ready for a warm hug.
Lin Lin, "…Did you really bring those things to find me? Leaving the house today was the right choice."
Fearing that the blood on his face would end up on her, Lin Lin used all her strength to push him away.
It wasn’t until Lin Lin punched his face with two strong hits that Allen finally quieted down, quietly touching his bruised left cheek.
Lin Lin’s fist was stained with the blood of the creature.
Arthur, standing behind Lin Lin, took a handkerchief from his pocket and carefully wiped the blood off her hand.
At least there was one mute among the brothers, which felt normal to Lin Lin. She felt relieved to see someone sane in a place full of madness.
After cleaning Lin Lin’s hand, Arthur neatly folded the handkerchief and quietly put it back in his pocket.
Lin Lin, "…I just feel something is off, but I can’t say what."
On the other side, Allen had run over, happily dragging the leg of a creature that looked like a brown bear. "Lin! Lin, do you want to eat this? Eat this! It’s delicious!"
Lin Lin declined the offer, "No need, just remember to clean the hall."
To prevent Allen from picking through the pile of dead creatures and finding something for her, Lin Lin quickly left.
After changing into more comfortable home clothes, she headed straight to the Demon King’s office to check on her work.
Lin Lin pushed open the door and saw that the Demon King was seriously working on some documents.
Lin Lin, "Tsk."
For some reason, she felt a sense of disappointment, as if she had missed something. Even though she should praise him for actually working hard.
After finishing his homework, the Demon King felt much more confident when he saw Lin Lin, "Do I need to give you the things right now?"
"No need," Lin Lin shook her head. She didn’t want to work during the holiday and began to report, "Allen made a mess in the hall."
The Demon King was a bit surprised that Lin Lin met the orca brothers.
The Demon King sighed, "Their appetites are too big, the food supplies in Demon King Castle are not enough for them, so they have to bring their own food. I hope you didn’t see them hunting; it’s not a pretty sight."
It’s not just bringing their own food, it feels like they are killing in your territory.
Lin Lin saw that the Demon King was stamping the document with an "Agree" seal, "Seafood trade?"
"Yes," the Demon King looked up, "the hot spring project is stable now, next we will start the seafood trade."
Lin Lin sat in the chair beside him, glancing at the documents again and again, "Is it by the sea?"
The Demon King didn’t understand why she was asking such an obvious question, "Of course."
Lin Lin smiled, "I have never seen the sea."
The Demon King nodded along, "I have never seen it either."
Lin Lin realized she needed to speak plainly, "I also want to help with the seafood project, to help the Demon King Castle!"
The Demon King said, "Then go ahead."
Knowing her suggestion would surely be accepted, Lin Lin happily shook her head, suddenly remembering that the Demon King had said he had never seen the sea.
"You are the Demon King, and you have never seen the sea?" Lin Lin asked in surprise, "Haven’t you been to Arthur’s territory?"
"In fact," the Demon King looked up at her, mimicking her style by resting his chin on his hand and shaking his head, his fluffy curly hair bobbing, "I haven’t been anywhere."
Unlike those who play the victim, the Demon King was simply stating the truth.
Lin Lin was shocked.
"So you’ve just stayed here?" Thinking about it, she realized that she had visited more places in Safir’s territory than the Demon King had.
The Demon King said proudly, "That’s right!"
In Lin Lin’s imagination, the Demon King shouldn’t be the kind of person who flies around the world, but he also shouldn’t be so reclusive.
While they would sometimes joke about Your Majesty the Demon King being a long-haired princess trapped in a high tower, it was clear now that the Demon King fit the image of a princess imprisoned in a tower all too well!
No wonder he spends every day studying blankets and milk tea; it’s the only thing he can study! What’s the point of living for over two hundred years like this!
Lin Lin was completely shocked and started thinking of ways to help the long-haired princess, "Then let’s go to the beach together this time!"
The Demon King seemed to really enjoy her shocked expression and replied with a smile, "No."
This was the first time Lin Lin clearly remembered the Demon King rejecting her like this. Usually, even if Lin Lin’s suggestion was turned down, the Demon King would find a way to gloss over the problem for now.
Why can’t we go out! Staying in the Demon King Castle is like always being at work!
So scary! This is truly a year-round job!
Lin Lin completely couldn’t understand this situation and suddenly stood up.
The Demon King, still resting his chin on his hand while looking at her, appeared a little confused, raising his gaze as she stood.
Lin Lin’s expression was serious, "I get it! It’s Safir’s fault! I’m going to call him!"
The Demon King laughed lightly, grabbing the edge of Lin Lin’s clothing to stop her from leaving.
"It’s my fault," the Demon King said.
Lin Lin, who was about to make a phone call, paused, standing still and looking down at the Demon King, who was holding onto the corner of her dress.
His violet eyes lifted, and he was back to his usual smiling face.
Unlike his earlier light-hearted tone, this time his voice was more relaxed and teasing.
"I decided this myself."
–
After Allen arrived, the number of monsters in Demon King Castle was cut in half.
This is not a joke; it is the truth.
Allen’s personality, which always causes trouble with cats and dogs, was unable to help but create problems for others, causing even the usually patient Felix to choose to leave.
"I will come back after they leave," Felix promised.
Lin Lin quietly drank water. It seemed that Felix disliked Allen even more than he disliked Safir, after all, Felix could barely be in the same place as Safir.
"This is really unfair to us," the source of the disaster pouted and complained, "In the evening, I saw the slimes moving house."
Lin Lin drank water. Yes, this was the right decision they could make without thinking, just by instinct.
Soon, Allen was happy again, "Then I went to visit their new home, and they moved back!"
Lin Lin: … Are you a devil?
"I’m not targeting you," Felix insisted seriously, "I’m only targeting you."
"It’s so frustrating," the already cleaned Allen rushed to Lin Lin, "Felix’s words are so mean! Lin will definitely comfort me!"
Lin Lin’s voice was calm, "Come any closer, and this dinner knife will poke into your belly."
Allen pulled back his hands, "It’s okay, Lin, your threatening look is also very cute! Can you carve a heart shape on my stomach here?"
Felix, "This good thing shouldn’t be left for him."
Can’t this world do something about crazy people?
Lin Lin looked over Allen and towards Arthur behind him. She pointed at Allen, then pointed at her head, hoping Arthur would understand her meaning.
Lin Lin, "Your brother needs to see a doctor for his head."
Arthur calmly lowered his gaze; he understood Lin Lin’s hint. Lin Lin wanted to poke Allen’s brain.
Arthur thought for a moment.
Seeing Arthur’s serious expression, Lin Lin felt that he might be considering which hospital would be best.
Indeed, no matter what kind of brother, an older brother is usually more reliable.
After Lin Lin finished her meal calmly and stood up from the table, she felt like she was no longer afraid of anything.
Because being with Allen, she has started to feel as if she has lived once before.
So tired… Even though she woke up very late today, she felt full of energy until she walked out of Demon King Castle.
But since she met Allen, she has become very tired, more tired than after a whole day of work.
Unfortunately, on the way back to her bedroom, she also passed by the orcas.
In the corridor lined with statues, a few windows were opened for fresh air.
The sound of rain outside and the slight smell of damp earth came in.
The orcas were familiar with this kind of scent, while Lin Lin couldn’t help but sneeze.
Allen was staring at her.
Lin Lin noticed that Allen’s energy was really high, but it was also easily distracted; as soon as something new and curious appeared, he would focus all his attention on that.
But if there was nothing else, his attention would return to Lin Lin.
Arthur had always acted quiet.
"Can you go back first? Or let me go first?" Lin Lin suggested.
"Why should we split up?" Allen disagreed, "We are going the same way."
So, after Allen secretly reached out twice, trying to touch Lin Lin’s hair, Lin Lin hid completely behind Arthur.
When Lin Lin hid behind Arthur, Allen’s gaze noticeably shook for a moment.
Even though it was exactly the same face, for some reason, Allen’s eyes looked rounder.
Lin Lin saw Allen’s eyes go from excited to shocked.
It seemed that her getting close to her brother was something that deeply affected him.
Perhaps in Allen’s mind, he should be the more popular one.
Strangely, whenever Lin Lin was near Arthur, Allen became much quieter.
Lin Lin quietly held this position and reached out to grab a small piece of Arthur’s shirt fabric; through the cloth, Lin Lin could feel the strong body underneath.
The body temperature of orcas is similar to that of humans, and without seeing their sharp teeth, it is difficult to tell their true form.
Allen became quiet, but Arthur continued to walk without changing his pace.
It was as if he walked expressionlessly through the puddles stained with blood.
Lin Lin realized something.
Although Arthur and Allen are twins, Arthur holds absolute status between the two.
Therefore, when the previous leaders were killed, the one who took their place was Arthur, which is why when she stood behind Arthur, Allen looked surprised and quiet.
Similar to humans but not exactly the same, orcas are social animals, and among them, a ranking sometimes appears.
Arthur is in the front.
A strange idea came to Lin Lin’s mind, and she wanted to try it out as a test.
Is Arthur really able to manage Allen, and is Arthur easier to communicate with than the other person?
If both of these are true, then any future troubles with Allen will be much easier to handle.
As she pulled slightly harder on the collar of his shirt, Lin Lin’s movements clearly suggested that she hoped the young man in front of her would stop.
The sound of three pairs of footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Lin Lin noticed that Arthur’s steps were slowing down until he finally stopped. Allen also turned his head to look at Lin Lin.
Knowing that Arthur’s ears could only hear her if she got very close, Lin Lin tiptoed and leaned near his ear. The orca’s skin was white and almost transparent, very delicate and smooth.
The orca standing in front of her slightly turned its body, listening to her words.
Not just Arthur, Allen was also staring at her.
Lin Lin raised her hand to cover her lips, making it difficult for Allen, who was standing nearby, to read her lips.
Lin Lin asked, "Can you go back first? I am a little tired and want to walk slowly."
After saying this, Lin Lin lowered her hand and stopped standing on her tiptoes.
Lin Lin fixed her gaze on Arthur.
This was a request.
It was a request to see if Arthur would break the decision that Allen had already made.
When Lin Lin met Arthur alone today, she understood that the twins were not always together.
Lin Lin could not see the change in Arthur’s expression; she only knew that he was silently looking at her.
Just when Lin Lin was about to say "never mind," Arthur turned to look at Allen.
Lin Lin felt that they must have a special way of communicating, perhaps a unique resonance from the orca’s special frequency. In that moment when they locked eyes, Allen immediately knew the decision Arthur had made.
Before the orcas left, Allen’s gaze fell on Lin Lin.
It wasn’t displeasure from being ordered by her brother, but excitement at facing this new experience.
Some tried to make choices among the brothers, balancing one against the other.
"Lin," he smiled, and Allen even wanted to encourage her behavior, "your way of doing things is interesting."
Lin Lin: … oh no.
