Chapter 29: The Demon King Finally Lost Patience
Lin Lin discovered that Donna truly loves her work.
No matter what task she is given, she completes it with great enthusiasm.
The two of them slept in the same room at the hot spring inn, but their morning routines were completely different.
When Donna got up, Lin Lin was sound asleep; while Donna was brushing her teeth and washing her face, Lin Lin was wrestling with her blanket; when Donna had breakfast, Lin Lin was entering a deep sleep again; by the time Donna started working, Lin Lin was battling with her blanket for the second time.
Although both of them were already at their posts when work started.
Donna was full of energy and had a cheerful attitude, while Lin Lin, with a dazed look, was nibbling on a cucumber for breakfast.
"Aren’t you tired at all?" Lin Lin asked Donna, "Is it a trait of your race?"
Clearly not; the other Lizardfolk always seem to have a calmness that lacks energy, showing a kind of "if I’m dead, I’m dead; if I’m alive, I’m alive" attitude.
So when Safir suggested having Lizardfolk work at the hot springs, Lin Lin wholeheartedly agreed. They really suit the service industry.
"I’m the only one like this," Donna replied, looking very happy, "so I can follow behind the young master."
Lin Lin was shocked; she had only thought of Donna as an outgoing girl who loved reading novels, not realizing she was a talented individual among the Lizardfolk.
"I really envy your sleep quality," Donna expressed her admiration for Lin Lin, "You sleep so soundly. When I was your age, I was full of worries about my shortcomings, and I couldn’t sleep at all."
Lin Lin: …
Lin Lin felt offended.
Yes, I sleep well; I’m not anxious at all. The cucumber in Lin Lin’s hand had already lost its crunch.
Is this world also so competitive? Shouldn’t this be a warm and lovely fantasy world? Why are there such terrifying words?
Lin Lin decided to stay a little away from Donna, and she walked to the door of the hot spring.
When she reached the door and had just enjoyed a few minutes of quiet time, Norman led the young knights past, jogging.
Why are you all still practicing in the morning after being up so late yesterday? Take a break!
At that moment, the most lazy and unmotivated woman felt an angry roar inside: Didn’t you come here to rest?
But the huskies completely did not understand the situation.
The boys, who had been tricked by Lin Lin last night but hadn’t noticed, rushed to greet her when they saw her standing at the door, chattering like little birds:
"Sister Lin!"
"Hello, boss!"
"Good morning, sister!"
Lin Lin was hit by a wave of youthful faces full of energy.
They looked so happy, both joyful and vibrant.
Lin Lin took a copper coin out of her pocket and said, "Let’s play a game. This is a special copper coin for the Hot Spring Shop. Whoever picks it up can get double the limited edition steak rice today!"
Holding the coin in her hand, Lin Lin threw it while the boys watched with eager eyes.
The boys excitedly rushed to grab it.
Although the steak rice was delicious, it was clear that everyone enjoyed the fun of chasing each other even more, and soon they ran far away.
Lin Lin shielded her eyes from the sunlight and looked at the distant silhouettes of the boys.
"You always trick them; they will be sad," said Norman, standing beside her.
He wore a comfortable white t-shirt today, and his fluffy golden hair was slightly tamed by the hot spring mist, with his blue eyes looking at Lin Lin.
"A young person must experience the hardships of society to truly grow up," said the cruel adult woman.
Lin Lin opened her palm, and the copper coin still lay quietly in her hands.
"I asked my deputy and the others to put the torn posters back up," Norman said. "We should get new guests today."
Lin Lin nodded and quietly yawned.
Seeing Lin Lin’s relaxed expression, Norman slightly smiled.
Lin Lin, "What are you laughing at?"
Norman, "I’m just happy to see your relaxed attitude. We are stationed in Tocopia, and very few civilians feel this way."
In Tocopia, being relaxed can easily make one a target for attacks.
Norman’s smile slowly faded, "But unfortunately, we can’t change much."
Although they maintained the city’s surface stability for a short time, Norman knew that once they left, the city would continue to run in its own way.
"This world will not completely match your wishes," Lin Lin replied.
Tocopia is a chaotic city for Norman, but for Felix, it is a joyful paradise.
Noticing the gloomy emotion behind Norman’s words, Lin Lin looked up, "Are you leaving?"
"Yes," the evacuation is not a secret, Norman did not plan to hide it, "we received new information that there was chaos in the southern city caused by monsters. Our work here is basically done, and we need to go there for support."
Lin Lin felt the same way, "Indeed, the recent monsters have been very unstable."
The area around Demon King Castle has been affected, and Lin Lin even went with Felix to the witch to buy poison.
Norman frowned slightly, the Holy Knight Commander showed a deep and serious demeanor, which gave him a sense of sacred responsibility, "Cursed Demon King, after two hundred years of peace, has finally lost his patience."
Lin Lin bit her lip: No, he is very patient; he is much more patient than you think.
Lin Lin could not explain that the commotion caused by the monsters was not the work of the Demon King.
Lin Lin could only express her sympathy with a common workplace phrase, "You’ve just taken a break and are sent to the south; that’s really tough."
"It’s not tough," Norman shook his head, "we are still looking for the Holy Maiden. Just the thought that she might be close to the attacking monsters makes us feel the same pain as if she is living in misery."
Lin Lin, "Wow, that sounds really dangerous. I hope you find the Holy Maiden soon."
Before leaving, Lin Lin glanced at the coin in her hand and then slipped it into Norman’s.
Norman opened his palm; it was not a special copper coin for the Hot Spring Shop, but an ordinary copper coin that Lin Lin held.
The well-off Knight Commander rarely received such gifts, and his gentlemanly nature made him not question it; he simply looked at Lin Lin with confusion.
"I’ll give you the prize of double steak rice," Lin Lin said, looking at the future Paladins happily running back this way.
"The Hot Spring Shop shouldn’t only make the children happy; the adults who bring them should also learn to enjoy their holiday."
–
When Lin Lin was very hungry and quietly slipped into the dining hall at half past ten, she finally met someone whose body clock was similar to hers.
The only person in the Hot Spring Shop who liked to sleep in was you, Daniel.
Unlike yesterday’s messy look, Daniel was clearly back to his best. After noticing Lin Lin’s presence, his eyes, framed by a white veil, "looked" in her direction.
Daniel gave a small nod to Lin Lin as a greeting.
With a piece of bread in hand, Lin Lin walked over to him.
Unlike most people here who wore cool and simple outfits, Daniel wore a linen shirt underneath and had a soft wizard robe on top, with long hair cascading over his shoulders. Yet he didn’t sweat at all, seeming refreshed as if it were a cool autumn day.
Curious, Lin Lin leaned closer to him, once again confirming that he was wearing several layers, "Did you use magic?"
Daniel looked up, a bit puzzled.
Lin Lin completed her question, "Did you use a spell that protects you from heat?"
Daniel spoke a bit seriously, almost stiffly, "Spells are not something that can be taken lightly; they should be used only when necessary. Using them carelessly is a waste."
"Well," Lin Lin shrugged, "if spells are used to make the bed soft and to light the room, it might be considered disrespectful."
The habits of the Demon King in using spells would likely be harshly criticized as hedonism if he came to the sanctuary. It feels like these two sides completely do not get along.
Daniel did not deny it.
Lin Lin felt a bit discouraged, "Seeing you dressed so warmly, I thought you had a good way to stay cool, because I feel like my brain is going to fry from the heat right now."
Lizardfolk are cold-blooded creatures and can tolerate a wide range of temperatures.
The knights have strong bodies, and this environment poses no trouble for them.
Only Lin Lin feels a bit uncomfortable with the heat of the hot spring.
Daniel, who was still quietly looking up at Lin Lin, reached out with his long-fingered hand.
The tips of his fingers, as pure as he was, touched Lin Lin’s wrist.
Lin Lin noticed that Daniel was about to touch her witch bracelet and instinctively pulled her hand back.
The fingertips that had just lightly rested on her wrist trembled slightly.
He was rejected. Daniel looked at Lin Lin with a confused expression.
Lin Lin reached out her other hand to him and said, "Use this hand."
A cool feeling, as calm as lake water, began to spread from the skin Daniel had touched, quickly wrapping around her body and then fading away.
Lin Lin no longer felt the heat; even the tiredness from staying up late the night before vanished.
Lin Lin smiled and said, "You’re really amazing."
The person who was praised suddenly panicked.
Daniel did not want to appear as if he was showing off by using magic. But it was an undeniable fact that he used magic recklessly.
"The great one is the God of Light who gives us strength," Daniel replied.
"The God of Light did not give strength to everyone," Lin Lin raised her hand to look at her wrist that had just been touched, but nothing seemed different to her eyes.
Lin Lin said, "The God of Light is powerful, and you are powerful too."
