Chapter 28: Safir Hasn’t Betrayed Us, Right?
Daniel is very weak.
Although this should not be said by Lin Lin, Daniel is really very weak.
Because of his previous harsh and proud behavior, Lin Lin didn’t have a good impression of him. Now seeing him sit helplessly on the ground without her support, covering his eyes and looking up lost, Lin Lin felt a bit sorry for him.
"You should get up," Lin Lin reached out her hand to him.
Lin Lin noticed Daniel’s daze.
Unlike most blind people, Daniel could actually create a blurry outline by sensing breath. That was what he could "see."
This made race meaningless to Daniel; whether beautiful elves or ordinary humans, they appeared quite similar to him.
He recognized people by their actions.
For example, Norman is mostly a honest person but sometimes unreliable, and the teachers at the sanctuary, while following the rules, are a bit reckless.
For instance, Lin Lin once pushed him when he wasn’t paying attention, causing him to bump his head.
Daniel has a sensitive nature, where even a little pain makes him furrow his brow and redden his eyes.
Now, he remembered Lin Lin had just held his hand, then let go. He fell onto the wooden floor and felt pain again.
Then, the woman, whose outline softly glowed, reached out her hand to him once again, "You should get up."
Daniel found it hard to tell if this was mockery or genuine help.
Before he could act cautiously, the woman in front of him had already bent down and grabbed his arm, pulling him up.
Lin Lin is both a good and bad person, Daniel thought.
Sitting back in the chair, Daniel adjusted the white satin over his eyes. He was very used to fixing it himself; even without seeing, he could feel the satin and tie it neatly.
He regained the pure and graceful look that Lin Lin first saw in him, like a Holy Maiden.
Lin Lin, sitting beside him, was very curious, "Daniel, why are you covering your eyes?"
If we follow the storylines from the novels Lin Lin has read, Daniel must have had a very special pair of eyes. People with no understanding would say it was a bad omen, so Daniel felt ashamed and covered his eyes. Then, one day, the true heroine appeared and exclaimed, "Why are you hiding such beautiful eyes?"
Then storybook Daniel thought, "I have never been loved like this," and suddenly gained confidence. From that day on, he stopped wearing the eye mask and walked proudly.
Well, Lin Lin was reading a romance novel.
Normally, blind people do not walk with their heads held high; it is easy to fall.
Lin Lin hoped to hear a deeply touching story from Daniel.
"If I wear a blindfold, they will know I am blind," Daniel replied. "Most people feel shy to talk to blind people; they are afraid of hurting my feelings."
Lin Lin: …
The corner of Lin Lin’s mouth uncontrollably lifted a little, but she immediately used her strong willpower to push it down.
Hold it in, Lin Lin! This is a terrible joke! You cannot laugh! If you laugh, all the good you’ve done in your life will disappear! Think about the good deeds you’ve built up before online!
Good job, Lin Lin managed to control her smile and steady her voice, "That could be one way."
Unfortunately, the little knights in the knight order had no understanding of how to respect people with disabilities; all they thought about was getting Daniel to fit into their happy family quickly.
Just when Lin Lin and Daniel were sitting there, a brand new husky, completely unaware that the previous group of card players had been sent away, happily ran over to join the fun.
"Teacher Daniel!" The boys, catching two lively frogs by the well-kept hot spring, joyfully rushed over to Daniel and said, "Teacher Daniel, guess what this is! Feel it, feel it!"
Is this how you usually trouble him? Lin Lin was shocked.
The person who had just barely survived was going to fall back into a half-dead state again.
Lin Lin decisively pointed far away with the same firm finger she used to throw frisbees for the dogs, tricking them, "Go find the Lizardfolk! The Lizardfolk love this!"
And just like that, she easily spread a rumor about the Lizardfolk.
The boys holding the frogs widened their eyes, "Can we see the Lizardfolk eat frogs live?"
Lin Lin wasn’t sure, "I haven’t seen it, maybe you can ask the lady at the front desk?"
Invincible Donna, I believe you will surely find a solution, Lin Lin wished with tears in her eyes.
The boys happily carried the frogs and ran towards the front desk.
How scary! A boy with a body blessed by gods is truly terrifying! He is like a super version that even dogs would avoid. Who could imagine the incredible destruction a group of huskies that never get tired, day and night, could cause?
After driving away the second wave, Lin Lin started to handle the remaining people more easily.
"First, go take a bath. The bath master will finish work soon."
"Go soak in the wellness hot spring. The hot spring can help you live to five hundred and grow a beard faster."
"I think I just heard your Knight Commander say to gather. You guys hide first, and I will hold off Norman."
"Oh? Did he not say to gather? He must have made a mistake."
…
Calm and steady, every word Lin Lin said seemed especially trustworthy, and she gained the little knights’ trust.
Daniel, who was sitting nearby, was stunned.
The pure followers of the God of Light, the mages who pride themselves on truth, were shocked to hear dozens of lies from those around them in just ten minutes. The little Paladins kept falling for it, again and again.
Even knowing that Lin Lin was not a believer in the God of Light, Daniel kindly reminded her, "If you do too many bad things in this life, you might become a servant of the devil in the next."
Lin Lin replied, "Isn’t it a coincidence? I already am."
Compared to Lin Lin’s teasing of the young knights, she and Daniel had not said much to each other before.
Most of the time was quiet.
Daniel was lost in thought, while Lin Lin flipped through a novel she had borrowed from Donna.
The sound of the pages turning was soft and calming.
In the darkness, Daniel could see the faint outline of Lin Lin’s profile.
She quietly sat here and pushed the noisy ones away from the small square table.
Until Norman’s footsteps appeared.
"I heard I’ve gathered two or three times already," Norman skillfully dragged the nearby chair and sat down next to Daniel at the little table, sharing the space with him.
Lin Lin began to realize who these young Paladins were like. Are they all cut from the same cloth?
"Because they will put pressure on Daniel," Lin Lin moved her gaze from the book and looked seriously at Norman, "Don’t think I’m joking."
Norman was a bit surprised; with his outgoing personality, it was hard for him to understand this feeling, "Can Daniel drive them away like he does with me?"
Lin Lin, "He would feel shy because he isn’t familiar with those kids."
Norman was shocked.
Lin Lin continued to explain, "I believe Daniel is the type who dares to fight monsters but feels scared to ask strangers for directions when lost, relying on his instincts to blindly follow one path, yet worries that someone might come to get him, making it even more awkward."
Lin Lin gave a very specific example.
Daniel spoke up to argue, "I did not."
Norman, on the other hand, gave a very certain conclusion, "It was him!"
After Norman arrived, Lin Lin got up. It was already late at night, and the busy woman, tired from a whole day, yawned as she held her book and got up to leave.
She sat in this place marked "Social Anxiety Silent Zone," which was not necessary for her, until another person appeared.
Daniel looked up, hearing Lin Lin emphasize to Norman that the knight boys had harmed the frog and Lizardfolk, so they needed to pay more.
Lin Lin is a person who is both good and bad.
–
Lin Lin took her book to find Donna to return it and saw Donna just coming out of the bathroom.
The lizardfolk’s two claws were both wet.
Lin Lin felt quite guilty and could only pretend to mention casually, "These young people are really full of energy."
"Yes," Donna replied.
It was hard to tell if it was the lizardfolk’s natural tendency to smile without laughing or if Donna was truly mocking, "They really are energetic; they even made me perform eating a frog."
Lin Lin gasped, fearing the young knights would reveal that she had given them the information, "These kids are too much!"
Donna raised her wet claws in front of Lin Lin, "I just washed my hands because the frog’s slimy goo was uncomfortably sticky on my hands."
Lin Lin held back for a moment, but her curiosity got the better of her, "Did you really eat it?"
Donna answered calmly, "I shoved the frog into the mouth of the loudest one."
Lin Lin slowly closed her mouth, shifted her gaze, and pretended that she had never mentioned the matter at all.
Donna suddenly remembered something important, "Your Majesty the Demon King called you, but you were too busy to answer."
Lin Lin, "You should have told me earlier! After all, it is the Demon King!"
Donna shook her head, "My master is Lord Safir, and Miss Lin Lin is an important guest of Lord Safir. From my point of view, Your Majesty the Demon King comes after you."
Calling him "Your Majesty" now seems a bit sarcastic.
Lin Lin, "When did he call?"
Donna, "Four hours ago."
Very good.
Lin Lin walked toward the lounge. It was late at night, and she hoped the king had the patience to wait by the phone for four hours.
No, he probably wouldn’t wait; that guy would just fall asleep after finishing his dessert.
Lin Lin sat on a soft chair in the lounge and dialed the Demon King’s number.
There was a glass skylight in the lounge, allowing a view of the starry sky when looking up.
The stars in this world shone brighter than in modern times, and one could see the twinkling stars clearly with the naked eye.
They were noisy stars, against the quiet night sky.
A calm, regular "beep beep" sound echoed from the receiver into her ears.
Surprisingly, it took only a few seconds before someone answered the other end of the line.
"Lin!" A very lively voice said before Lin Lin could speak, "Are you not busy right now?"
Um. Just imagine Your Majesty the Demon King calling, and Donna answering the phone, telling the Demon King that Miss is busy right now and will call back later. Even just imagining it seems absurd.
"Yes," Lin Lin asked, "So do you have some important news to tell me?"
On the other end of the receiver, Your Majesty the Demon King lowered his voice, "You need to be careful! I sense a presence of light around you, it might be Paladins or something like that!"
Lin Lin: …
Lin Lin: I have been with them for a week, is your sensing really working?
Maybe we should forget about this Demon King’s contract, it’s useless, and the design is quite unusual.
"If you want to hear the truth," Lin Lin thought about how to express it more politely, but didn’t succeed, "Paladins are currently our guests at the hot spring, and there are over forty Paladins on Safir’s territory right now."
A moment of silence from the other side.
Lin Lin, "Are you listening, Demon King? Are you sad, Demon King?"
Demon King, "Safir hasn’t betrayed me, right?"
Lin Lin, "You trust me a lot!"
I will report to Safir tonight!
