Chapter 26: Be Polite to Guests!
"Okay, is everyone here? I am going to start speaking." Holding the microphone, Lin Lin stood on a platform that was half her height, looking down at the Lizardfolk.
"All the Lizardfolk are here! Miss!" The most enthusiastic Lizardfolk below was Donna, who seemed to think this was a brand new role-playing game, feeling very excited to participate.
"Great! So full of energy! I appoint you as the Great Assistant of the Lizardfolk!" Lin Lin gave Donna high praise.
To open a hot spring, we naturally need staff. Now that the hot spring is built, we are just waiting for the guests to arrive.
"Staff training?" When Lin Lin told Safir about the plan for employee training, Dragon race, who was reading a book, looked up slightly, puzzled. "Can’t we just send people to collect money and clean up?"
This is indeed a common hot spring model in this world.
"No, we can’t do that," Lin Lin shook her head. "We need people to welcome guests, give massages, cook meals, and help customers with their needs. More importantly, we need to create a relaxed and gentle atmosphere."
"We need a company culture!" Lin Lin emphasized.
After Lin Lin said this, Dragon race, who completely did not understand the idea of a relaxed and gentle atmosphere, kept a calm expression.
Safir said, "You can ask Donna; she should be very interested. If you need more staff, you can talk to her directly."
"Huh?" Lin Lin was surprised. "Aren’t you participating?"
Then she saw Sapphire Dragon’s smile, cold like ice and snow, "Are you saying that besides taking up my land and using my staff, I also have to take care of those strange little creatures myself? I wonder if they will ever have the luck to enjoy that?"
Lin Lin immediately saluted, "No need! Boss! I will take care of everything!"
Lin Lin thought Safir’s words were already polite; what he really meant was, "The little bunnies won’t have such a good life next time."
Anyway! Now Lin Lin is fully in charge of all preparations for the hot spring; it’s like being the executive director!
But the Lizardfolk were more used to calling Donna "Miss."
Looking at the dozen or so Lizardfolk below, who had blank expressions, Lin Lin felt half of her motivation to create a warm company culture fading away.
"Um…" Lin Lin asked, knowing it might be a bit difficult for the Lizardfolk, "Can everyone smile a little?"
The Lizardfolk below looked up, and their smiles were hardly noticeable, with only Donna managing to stand out.
Lin Lin, "Can you smile a bit harder?"
The Lizardfolk lifted the corners of their lips, revealing sharp teeth in their wider mouths.
…I almost forgot, lizards and crocodiles look quite similar. From above, it looks like a crocodile pond!
Lin Lin, "Stop laughing, stop laughing."
It’s quite creepy.
–
The good thing about working with the Lizardfolk is that since Lin Lin has already gotten Safir’s permission, there are basically no Lizardfolk who will disagree with Lin Lin’s orders.
Whether Lin Lin’s orders make sense or not, the Lizardfolk will follow them.
Half of the Lizardfolk were assigned to the meal area, mainly responsible for providing food for various races. Cleaning is not a difficult task for the Lizardfolk.
The key positions are the front desk, bath attendants, and service staff, which require interactions with guests.
There is really a lack of talent!
Lin Lin gave the front desk task to Donna and taught her her lifelong skills.
Lin Lin, "Good afternoon, sir! Please hold the slippers and the guest cards! There are two gentlemen!"
Yes, the lifelong skill is just one sentence.
Lin Lin, "The key to this sentence is to speak with confidence and truly have them hold on to the guest cards; don’t lose them."
Donna started to practice repeatedly.
Then, Lin Lin moved towards the bathing area.
Although the whole hot spring was covered in warm, moist air, it was clear that the further one walked, the hotter it became.
Lin Lin wiped the sweat from her forehead and was thankful that Safir didn’t provide the over a thousand-degree hot spring; otherwise, just getting close would evaporate a few people.
The bathing area is near the hot spring area, and two Lizardfolk were already practicing there.
It is one male and one female.
Lin Lin noticed that the male Lizardfolk seemed especially quiet and slow among the silent Lizardfolk.
He seemed so slow that it gave a strange feeling of familiarity.
Lin Lin hesitated and spoke, "Carter?"
The Lizardfolk, called by his name, slightly lifted his tail. His dark red scales appeared wet in the moist mist, and he looked a bit confused, not knowing why Lin Lin knew his name.
But his simple mind didn’t think too much; he was just happy.
Is Carter really in the bath area? Lin Lin had chosen randomly based on their positions, since those Lizardfolk all looked quite similar at first glance.
He actually fits well; being quiet in the bath area is a wonderful virtue.
Lin Lin asked Carter, "Have you learned how to wash?"
Lin Lin watched as Carter swiftly wrapped a washcloth around one of his claws, rubbing it over the soft mat used for practice.
The soft mat showed pockmarked signs.
Carter ignored the uneven surface of the mat, skillfully flipped it over, and patted it; the Lizardfolk rubbed the other side of the mat, which was also worn down evenly.
Ah, the movement was very proper, but it felt like one would wear out the other.
Lin Lin’s gaze shifted to the younger-looking Lizardfolk.
Compared to Carter, that female Lizardfolk was much more detailed and gentle.
She even prepared milk, red wine, and apple cider vinegar herself to achieve a soothing and nourishing effect.
Lin Lin walked over to the female Lizardfolk and saw the shiny, reflective mat she was working on, which was a stark contrast to the tattered one Carter had.
This! Is this the difference between genders?
Lin Lin firmly patted the little Lizardfolk girl’s shoulder and said, "I have nothing more to teach you. You are very clever; you have the talent for scrubbing."
When the little girl heard Lin Lin’s praise, her tail wagged quickly. She had never heard such generous compliments from Safir.
Carter quietly looked at the little Lizardfolk girl’s mat and then at his own mat. It was clear that he had more strength.
Carter’s tail lifted slightly, which is a sign of confidence among Lizardfolk.
Lin Lin said, "Carter, you are too strong. Let’s have someone else try."
The Lizardfolk’s tail drooped down.
Although Carter’s personality is not very lively among Lizardfolk, he has always been one of the more outstanding ones. This is clear because Safir takes him along when going out.
Right now, Carter did not meet the young lady’s expectations.
There was no dissatisfaction; Carter sincerely felt sorry for not being helpful.
Then, Carter heard Lin Lin say behind him, "Don’t waste so much energy; you could be a guard! I’ve seen you fight, and you’re really strong!"
Carter’s tail raised up again.
While the two were talking, the slow-thinking Lizardfolk noticed a red bracelet on Lin Lin’s wrist.
For Carter, he couldn’t tell the difference between a hair tie and a bracelet. Among female Lizardfolk, besides Donna, very few had such accessories.
Carter looked at his empty wrist and remembered that he had briefly received a red hair tie from Lin Lin.
It was something magical that he couldn’t understand, and he didn’t know if it had any magic at all.
Lin Lin noticed the nearby Lizardfolk looking at Carter’s empty wrist.
He was always so slow; Carter glanced back and forth at the front and back of his claws, as if checking to make sure he didn’t have a hair tie.
Lin Lin realized he was looking for something.
Lin Lin took off the hair tie she used to style her hair. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders. Unlike the red wavy hairband from last time, this time she used a very ordinary black hair tie.
Lin Lin handed the hair tie to Carter, saying, "Do you like this? But the hair tie I used today doesn’t look very nice."
She pinched one end of the hair tie with her finger and offered it to Carter.
Carter hesitated for a moment, then reached out his claw and copied her action to pinch the other end.
Unlike the soft fingers of humans, the Lizardfolk claws, covered in scales and used for tearing prey, are sharp and large. He had to be very careful to pinch the hair tie with the tips of two of his fingers.
Lin Lin let go of her hand and saw Carter lift the hair tie. He still showed no expression, slightly tilting his head, and the only thing visible on his featureless face were his golden eyes, carefully examining the hair tie in the light.
Ah, is it not very nice? After all, among the Lizardfolk, those with more vibrant scale colors are more popular.
Lin Lin hesitated about whether to tell him that she could give him a brighter hair tie tomorrow.
Then, Lin Lin saw Carter put the hair tie on his wrist.
It seems he accepted it.
The Lizardfolk turned his wrist again, just like when it was empty moments ago, repeatedly checking that he indeed had a hair tie now.
Lin Lin found his small actions very interesting and quietly watched him.
The Lizardfolk turned his head, and in his golden eyes, Lin Lin’s face, black hair, gentle features, and curious eyes were reflected.
Carter slightly opened his mouth, showing a bit of his white teeth.
Is he going to speak? Lin Lin looked at him with even more curiosity.
No, he just held his mouth open for a moment and then closed it again.
Lin Lin realized that this was the response from the Lizardfolk this morning when she stood on the platform and made them smile down below.
He is expressing a smile.
"You really like this, don’t you?"
Lin Lin couldn’t help but curve her eyes and her lips couldn’t stop rising, and she returned a smile.
–
Lin Lin, an adult woman with an elementary school spring outing syndrome.
It shows that if there is something important the next day, she would lie in bed all night imagining various possibilities and be so excited that she can’t fall asleep.
Tomorrow is the opening day for the hot spring, and Lin Lin rolled around in her huge cat nest, suddenly hearing a rumble.
Unable to sleep, Lin Lin climbed out of the cat nest and saw the Dragon race stretching its wings on top of Golden Mountain.
Well, it wasn’t lively at all; it was just an ordinary Dragon race stretching, and Lin Lin prepared to pull her blanket around herself.
"Why aren’t you sleeping?" Safir asked, his voice deeper and hoarser when he transformed into the Dragon race, and as he spoke, the ground beneath him seemed to tremble.
Lin Lin remembered the quick hearing of the Dragon race and thought she might have disturbed Safir’s rest.
"I’m a little worried," Lin Lin replied, resting her arms on the edge of the cat bed, looking at the huge creature that seemed so big to her. "What if no guests come tomorrow?"
The gem dragon’s eyes still reflected a deep blue light in the darkness as he looked gently and calmly at the woman nestled in the cat bed.
She was truly worried about this matter, so a faint sorrow appeared on her usually lively face.
In her past life in the city, Lin Lin was a finance worker who sat quietly in the office, rarely having the chance to go on business trips.
When others came to her with train tickets for reimbursement, she would stamp the attachments on one unfamiliar place after another, turning those little blue square tickets into proof for reimbursement.
She didn’t get involved in the company’s actual business and didn’t go out, while the company’s profits and losses were just numbers that flowed through her hands.
Fill out forms, create tables, collect numbers, analyze numbers, report to the leaders.
It felt like she was trapped in that small space, yet others encouraged her, saying that such work was good for girls.
Now, Lin Lin needed to go out. She began to take part in specific events and meet people from different races. The feeling of stepping out of her small room and looking up at this magical land was truly wonderful.
She felt both nervous and scared.
Were all her judgments correct? Were all her efforts necessary? Did she really have the ability to handle everything that might happen?
Always dressed in a white shirt and jeans, she hurriedly traveled through the subway and elevators, lost in a sea of people. One day, as the tall buildings seemed to pull away from her like blocks, she found herself alone with an empty space around her.
"That’s not something you should worry about," a deep voice from the Dragon race came from above.
Lin Lin looked up and saw Safir slightly lowering his head, seriously talking to her.
"You…" the serious and harsh Dragon race was not good at giving compliments, "are very energetic."
Lin Lin let out a sigh, feeling that the praise was dull and forced.
Noticing her little mood, Safir did not get angry.
"You are willing to try many new things, quickly accept different situations, and are happy to share your ideas. Once you have a direction, you should act immediately," Safir paused, "That is impressive."
The proud Dragon race finally used a positive word.
"Whether it’s me or the Demon King, as beings of eternal life, we have long lost that kind of energy."
This was the first time Lin Lin heard Safir reflect on himself.
Perhaps he really is a truly fair person, so he can coldly judge others and also harshly analyze himself.
"You are a very special presence in the Demon King Castle," Safir spoke softly, "And even if the worst situation occurs, our hot spring does not earn as much as we imagined. I just need to destroy the city of Tocopia to receive enough reward."
Lin Lin: …
"Just because people don’t come to your hot spring, doesn’t mean you should destroy someone else’s home!" Lin Lin saw through the villainous thinking of this group, "Who wants to have such a safety net! What you said makes it even more stressful!"
–
The consequence of a sleepless night was that Lin Lin and Donna sat together at the front desk. Donna was happily reading a novel, while Lin Lin was feeling sleepy.
After bumping her head against the table twice, Lin Lin stood up, "I can’t stay here! I need to go outside for a walk! The longer I sit, the sleepier I get."
"Actually, miss, you can go back and rest," Donna said, glancing outside, "No one will be here all morning anyway."
"I’ll just take a short walk," Lin Lin said as she stepped outside.
As if confirming Donna’s guess, there was no one at noon, and no one in the afternoon either.
Lin Lin sat on a big rock at the entrance.
She rarely waited with such uncertainty.
Unsure if she would meet someone or not, the damp fog soaked her cotton dress, and the wind felt like warm air.
Looking up at the sky, her mind was blank; she thought of nothing, and the sky and clouds became a long timer.
When the Dark Elf lightly landed beside Lin Lin, she was a bit surprised by his arrival, "Don’t you hate the damp and hot hot springs?"
Felix said, "Anyway, I have nothing else to do."
The Dark Elf sat cross-legged next to her, both of them sitting on the giant rock, looking at the sky.
The sunset’s glow turned the sky red, the blue sky grew darker, and the light under the tree shade faded little by little.
Lin Lin stopped her swinging legs at the edge of the stone, and she jumped down from the giant rock.
Felix looked up and asked her, "Aren’t you going to wait?"
Lin Lin turned to look at the Dark Elf’s clear eyes; she paused for a few seconds, and her disappointment was pushed into a little dark corner inside her, "How could I not wait! I plan to wait inside the house; there is still a little light in there."
"Oh," Felix said, "then you don’t need to go in because there are guests arriving."
The Dark Elf’s hearing was sharper than that of humans, and Lin Lin only heard the noise after about ten seconds.
The sound of birds suddenly flapping their wings as they are startled by a crowd, the noise of thick-soled shoes stepping on leaves, and the growing chatter of people.
Magical lights lit up automatically for the visitors, casting a warm glow on Lin Lin’s face.
In contrast to a day filled with sadness, the joy at this moment felt almost unreal.
Lin Lin stretched out her arm and shouted to Donna inside, "Donna Donna! Stop reading your novel! We’re open!"
Lin Lin could hear Donna hurriedly getting up and packing her things.
Guests had arrived at the entrance of the hot spring.
Lin Lin turned around and saw familiar faces.
Today, the Paladins were dressed in casual clothes, with no badges or banners, and their young faces looked completely relaxed.
The first in line was a blonde Knight Commander.
Norman was a bit surprised, "Is this hot spring run by you?"
"Yes," Lin Lin answered quickly, and then she saw the Dark Elf beside her looking at the guests with a face full of disgust.
Lin Lin elbowed Felix, "Be polite to the guests!"
Felix, "Of course I am polite; I just have a naturally grumpy face."
