Chapter 25: Donna’s Heart Is in a Panic!
"Look! I brought you the coaster for your tea!"
Lin Lin admitted she was taking a gamble when she pointed at the rug laid out on the floor.
What if Safir thinks this coaster is very useful? What if the Dragon race really likes this mysterious thing that seems to have no clear purpose?
And… sure enough, she gets scolded!
"If you could honestly face your carelessness and curiosity, instead of making excuses with sweet talk… I would feel a bit better." In the dim light, the Dragon race frowned slightly, and a low voice came from his mouth, "You disappoint me, Lin Lin."
She was called by her full name! It had been a long time since she had been addressed like that!
This is just wonderful! The previous explanation completely danced in the Dragon race’s danger zone! Hopelessly hopeless!
Lin Lin thought a bit recklessly.
Last time, when she asked Safir if he wanted to discipline her as a student, he looked extremely offended and angry. But now, he was concerned about when she would return and even wanted her to explain why she had been out for so long!
She didn’t want to explain anymore! No matter how she explained, she couldn’t change the stubborn and proud Dragon race!
Lin Lin thought sharply that she could tell from Safir’s last student, the unreliable Demon King, that Safir’s teaching skills were not impressive at all! He wasn’t qualified to ask for her either!!!
Lin Lin always believed in "you’re strong, I’m weak; the stronger you are, the weaker I become." When she felt unhappy, she would push back hard, no matter if you were a Demon King or a lord, she’d make you feel it!
So, when Safir said, "I’m a bit disappointed in you," Lin Lin, who was feeling guilty, suddenly straightened her back, "I just wanted to go watch the Knight’s Order! Because all the members are good-looking and have lovely voices, and they even gave me little gifts when I left!"
Lin Lin put her hands on her hips, "I went to the Knight’s Order on my own!"
Felix: ???!!!!
The Dark Elf was shocked.
Felix had no idea why Lin Lin said that; she was clearly trying to avoid suspicion. She had been detained and ended up visiting the Knight’s Order, and it was just a coincidence that something delayed them later. Plus, when Lin Lin woke up from fainting, they didn’t stay at the Knight’s Order; they rushed back overnight.
Felix hesitantly lifted his head. In the underground den, his hood was unnecessary, so he tugged at the brim to reveal his face hidden in the darkness.
The Dark Elf looked at the proud Lin Lin, then at the more serious-looking Safir.
He truly hoped that the two of them wouldn’t be too close, but it would be best if they weren’t so far apart either.
Felix hesitated on whether to break the awkward silence, but as a Dark Elf, he had no social skills for this! In fact, he was better at stirring up trouble!
Donna, who was pouring tea beside Safir, was completely stunned. She didn’t expect that young master Safir was not following the story of a dominant leader, but rather the plot of a feudal patriarch from a novel!
Oh no! This is really bad! Donna felt flustered inside! Young master, you cannot follow this plot!
If you do, you will only appear in two chapters of the whole novel, and in the end, you will have to admit that the main couple is a perfect match while the teary-eyed father reflects on being too oppressive towards his children!
Young master, you are being foolish!
Safir looked at Lin Lin with a blank expression. Her transformation potion hadn’t reached its time limit yet, so she still appeared as a half-human with red eyes and platinum hair.
She looked at herself with anger, and flames burned in her red eyes.
Safir had not seen a brave little one who dared to get angry in front of him for a long time.
He had to take back his earlier thought that Lin Lin was a pup of the Sapphire Dragon.
She was not a pup of the Sapphire Dragon; she was foolish and arrogant, telling lies full of holes, and she got angry at others’ questions, which was a very silly trait of a Red Dragon pup!
Even the young Demon King was more obedient than her.
With her fierce expression and the rise and fall of her angry chest, Safir easily realized that Lin Lin was lying. She was intentionally saying those hurtful things to annoy him.
Don’t get angry, Safir thought. Don’t get angry, don’t let such small things make you mad. Don’t argue with a pup.
The Sapphire Dragon looked at the various treasures and the precious books around him to calm his emotions.
The young dragon’s cold face was half hidden in the shadows. He spoke with a somewhat calm voice, "Saying that will disappoint the Demon King."
"That’s great!" Lin Lin, covered in pricks, seemed to be waiting for just that one sentence from him, or rather, she was waiting for any words from Safir. As soon as he spoke, she would argue back, "I can’t please everyone; at least I’ve succeeded in disappointing everyone."
"And," Lin Lin thought for a moment and quickly added, "you know the Demon King is my boss. He hasn’t given me any rules."
That’s because the Demon King himself has no rules.
Safir sighed heavily in his heart and did not want to continue this argument.
The deep blue hair brushed against his cheek.
"Donna," he suddenly called the name of the Lizardfolk maid.
Hearing her name, Donna straightened her back, although it was a bit difficult for a Lizardfolk, "I’m here, Master!"
Safir said, "Take her to rest."
Donna immediately set down the teapot in her hands and cheerfully walked towards Lin Lin, "I think your clothes are too thin. Are you cold? Would you like to try on my clothes?"
This counts as giving someone a way out.
As soon as Lin Lin saw the steps, she jumped down without slipping, making a smooth whoosh.
Lin Lin said, "It’s a bit cold."
Donna warmly hugged her and took her to her room.
Until the two women left the hall, the Dark Elf, who usually hid her presence, did not rush to leave.
"Even if you stay, there’s nothing exciting to see," Safir said, feeling a bit of a headache. He gently rubbed his forehead, not having faced such worry in a long time.
Felix spoke up, "What she just said was in anger."
"Of course I know," the Dragon race felt challenged in his ability to observe, "Do you think I don’t understand why she suddenly puffed up her cheeks like a frog? It can’t just be the side effects of your transformation potion, right?"
The Dark Elf, poked for no reason, clicked her tongue, feeling that Safir really needed to be challenged a bit.
"She has the right to do that…" Felix began. He did not want to share his experiences as a Dark Elf with this Dragon race, but for now, he could only hint, "because she is a woman."
In Felix’s eyes, women always had special privileges; they could command men, accuse men, and vent their feelings when they were unhappy.
In fact, Lin Lin should be the gentler type. She should be appreciated.
The proud Dragon race fell silent before the Dark Elf’s reasoning.
"Sometimes your race really needs to think," Safir said. "Do events have to be divided by gender?"
"In fact," Felix objectively evaluated, "this event doesn’t have right or wrong. I also think you are a bit too controlling."
"Because she is weak!" Safir’s voice dropped; he sounded a bit impatient, his deep Dragon race words escaped, "Should I say to her face that she is weak? She will get hurt outside!"
Safir said, "So you wouldn’t say that to the Demon King, but only to her, right? Aren’t you treating situations differently?"
Ignoring the Dragon race’s growing impatience, the Dark Elf took a step back to a safer distance, "It is precisely because she is so fragile… that she needs gentler treatment."
Felix looked far away at Safir.
Seeing that the cold-faced Dragon race would not react to his words, Felix helplessly reached out and shrugged his shoulders, "In this regard, you are not as good as your student."
This sentence was very provocative.
Safir let out a low growl.
The ground shook, the Dragon race’s nest trembled slightly, and the earth element’s attack brushed past Felix’s ear.
The Dark Elf skillfully dodged, his youthful, clear voice sounded mechanical and calm, without any emotion, "Oh, the great lord of the underground is angry, I am so scared."
–
"Is there an earthquake?" Lin Lin tightened her grip on Donna’s arm.
She had never held a Lizardfolk’s arm so affectionately before, feeling the warm temperature passing through the delicate scales.
"Um," Donna hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting around as she decided on the reason, "Don’t be nervous, it’s just a small matter."
"Okay," Lin Lin nodded, not letting go of Donna’s hands.
The body temperature of Lizardfolk is warmer, Lin Lin noticed that Donna’s scales are finer and smaller than the males’, shining more brightly; her tail is flexible and full of energy.
This might mean that Donna is quite a beauty among the Lizardfolk, Lin Lin thought.
"You are so warm," Lin Lin exclaimed.
"We are cold-blooded animals," Donna replied, "My higher body temperature is probably because I often soak in hot springs; I like the warm feeling."
"Are there very cold Lizardfolk too?" Lin Lin asked.
"In fact, most Lizardfolk should be quite cold," Donna suddenly remembered a name, and she laughed, "Carter must be the coldest; I’ve never seen him soak in a hot spring!"
Who is Carter?
As if she understood Lin Lin’s question, Donna explained, "Wasn’t there a Lizardfolk driving the carriage when you and the master returned on the first day? That’s Carter."
"Even though male Lizardfolk are mostly quiet and silent," Donna shook her head, looking a bit unconvinced, "he is definitely the most silent among them."
Lin Lin: …
Lin Lin, "I have never even heard him speak."
"That is very normal," Donna shook her head, "I have hardly heard him say a few words. Before this, I thought he was mute."
Then she imitated Carter’s blank expression, turning her head side to side in a steady and stiff manner, her tail slightly raised.
Lizardfolk really resemble Lizardfolk, especially as Donna narrowed her golden eyes and stood completely still, looking frozen.
Lin Lin couldn’t help but laugh, "It’s not that exaggerated!"
Donna laughed too, her wider mouth curving up, "Are you feeling a bit happier now? The master is strict with all beings, so you don’t have to take it too seriously."
"Um," Lin Lin stopped smiling and became a little cautious. "I thought you would be upset because I disagreed with him. He is important to you."
Donna nodded, "He is the most important, but you are an important guest too."
Lin Lin felt a little happy with this sentence; she was a guest, and guests are important too.
Donna’s bedroom was quite simple. Besides the necessary furniture, there was a bookshelf filled with novels.
"The bookshelf is from the owner!" Donna said happily, "His bookshelf is very big and can hold many books. It’s much cheaper than if I bought them myself!"
Lin Lin curiously took two books from the shelf, while Donna happily searched in the wardrobe.
Most of her clothes were maid outfits, which are her work clothes.
There were also some outfits that were more girly.
Donna took out a pink dress that was more fitted at the waist. "Do you want to try this on?"
Lin Lin, holding a book, turned her head and saw the pink dress, "Isn’t it too pink?"
"No, not at all!" Donna assured her, "Just try it on. I forgot that Lizardfolk have no waist, so I only tried it once and then gave up."
What a sorrowful question; after Donna finished speaking, Lin Lin didn’t even have the courage to refuse her.
"Okay," Lin Lin set the book aside and went to try on Donna’s dress.
Luckily, because it had a simple style, it didn’t look exaggerated and even gave her a charming, ladylike air.
Donna cupped her face, "You can be the main character now."
Lin Lin, being turned around by her, asked in the midst of the busyness, "Don’t you want to be the main character after reading so many novels?"
Because she really loved playing the roles of the butler or maid in those stories, she felt a deep passion for that profession.
"Because I really enjoy being a butler!" Donna answered without hesitation, "The butler’s role is much more interesting to me than the main character’s!"
Well, every species has different preferences.
Lin Lin and Donna squeezed onto a big bed covered with hay and sand, and Donna had even changed the sheets.
Lin Lin slept more soundly than she expected.
She was even awakened by the sound of knocking.
Rubbing her eyes, Donna was already gone; there was only Lin Lin alone in the bed, and she sleepily said, "Who is it?"
The regular knocking paused.
Lin Lin hesitated for a moment and said an unsure name, "Felix?"
The doorknob gently turned, and someone pushed the door open from outside.
Lin Lin saw Safir standing in the doorway.
Unlike her in pajamas with messy hair, Dragon was clearly well put together, with the black shirt buttoned all the way to the top, blue eyes looking at Lin Lin who was kneeling on the bed.
Well, now there’s a new reason to be scolded, thought Lin Lin.
Sleeping in, looking messy, and maybe being a bit rude.
Yes, the moment Lin Lin saw Safir, she couldn’t help but frown and cross her arms, looking like someone who didn’t want to be approached.
Safir’s gaze traced the sleep marks on Lin Lin’s cheek. The faint red impressions curled across her fair face.
This meant her skin was too soft, that even the wrinkles of the fabric could leave a mark on her.
Safir remembered the Dark Elf’s taunt.
[You should treat her more gently.]
The Sapphire Dragon let out a soft sigh.
He walked closer to the edge of the bed and then sat on the side, the deep blue earrings by Sapphire Dragon’s ear gently swaying.
"You seemed unhappy last night," Safir said, his voice low.
"Um," Lin Lin looked down. She actually felt that what happened yesterday was more embarrassing than angry.
Safir’s way of correcting her made her feel awkward because she was an adult with her own thoughts, and she couldn’t let someone else’s parent control her like that.
Safir frowned slightly as he sat close to Lin Lin, his gaze once again landing on the faint pink mark.
He may not be a perfectionist, but he couldn’t help wanting to erase the marks he saw on complete things.
Safir reached out his hand, his cool fingertips touching the red mark on her cheek, which was still warm from sleeping.
The Dragon race said, "I mean no harm, I just…"
Safir had never communicated so carefully with a wise being before.
Lin Lin noticed that his movements were very careful, like touching a thin and transparent rice paper.
The Sapphire Dragon felt a strange sense of being trapped, as if he was caught by this layer of thin rice paper.
The Dragon raced slowly frowned.
Safir’s sapphire-like eyes stared at Lin Lin, his words unusually cautious and slow, as if he was choosing each word carefully.
"I just… I have never raised a little girl."
