Chapter 24: Thank You for Your Comfort!
That’s great, Lin Lin thought.
It’s wonderful that the enemy has the same low intelligence as we do; I will always appreciate a fair fight.
Lin Lin looked expressionlessly at the Paladins who were touching and grabbing the mattress around the Demon King, each wanting to see if this expensive bedding was really as comfortable as the legends said.
From their conversation, it was clear that the "Demon King" mattress had recently become somewhat popular among young people, but it was so expensive that some Paladins didn’t even have the courage to step into the chain store.
…and a chain store.
How could this be! Lin Lin didn’t know what had happened while she was away on business from Demon King Castle; could it be that Demon King Castle has already entered the Fortune 500?
Have all the things that were sold been accounted for? They surely haven’t; I will have to work hard on the accounts when I get home. Does anyone care about the mental state of the finances?
Lin Lin’s mind went blank, her thoughts racing in a mix of sadness and exhaustion, and she finally fainted.
Norman stood beside Lin Lin, helping to support her shoulder before Felix, who was standing in the corner, could catch her.
A woman’s body is very light; to a knight who has carried a sword and shield for years, she feels as light as a feather. Norman found it hard to get used to touching such a delicate body.
Just as Norman helped her upright, another pair of hands took over.
Unlike when Lin Lin was present, the Dark Elf no longer hid in the dark corners or followed Lin Lin. He stepped out from the shadows into the light.
After holding the fainted woman tightly in his arms, Felix’s silver eyes looked coldly at Norman.
It was only then that the well-liked and respected Knight Commander slowly realized that this Dark Elf really disliked him.
However, Felix made a gesture that Lin Lin would like, leading Norman to think that he was a rather gentle Dark Elf.
A certain struggling balance is about to be broken.
Norman raised the corners of his lips; he had his own matters to attend to and did not want to attract trouble at that moment.
"I really appreciate your help," Norman said as he slowly took a step back, putting more distance between himself and Lin Lin, "but I believe Lin needs more rest right now."
Norman said, "After all, our races have more in common."
The Knight Commander kindly suggested.
Standing in the light, surrounded by the knights blessed by the God of Light, the dark-skinned Dark Elf looked like an outsider.
–
She had a nice, long sleep!
Lin Lin yawned and got up, realizing she was in the Paladin’s resting room where Paul used to lie.
Of course, Paul is no longer here now.
The curtains are closed, but a little bit of the night outside can be seen through the crack.
She slept until the evening.
"You are awake," Felix said, standing up straight against the wall and walking towards her.
Lin Lin felt very guilty, realizing she was too tired and weak, "Did you sleep? Why don’t you take a break?"
"Dark Elves only need a short rest," Felix replied, "Sleep is not necessary for us."
In the dark bedroom without lights, Felix could clearly see Lin Lin’s uplifted face, thanks to the Dark Elf’s excellent night vision.
In contrast, Lin Lin mainly judged Felix’s direction by his voice, barely able to make out his face through the blurry outline. In the darkness, Lin Lin strained to "look" at him to be polite.
Ground creatures, Felix thought.
Born weak and despising the dark creatures, there were also unknown arrogant beings on the ground. The Dark Elf was always willing to respond to their arrogance with real actions.
Then those beings angrily accused the Dark Elf of being cruel and sneaky.
Felix felt restless; this restlessness came from his unease in the Light Camp, from the Knight Commander’s unclear words, and from the fact that Lin Lin was a human.
Lin Lin was a human.
Felix bent down and stared into Lin Lin’s eyes in the darkness.
Lin Lin did not understand why Felix suddenly lowered his head and got so close to her.
In the close contact, the Dark Elf’s breath was almost undetectable.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Lin asked him.
In the silent darkness, the Dark Elf paused for two seconds.
Lowering his eyes, Felix knew that Lin Lin could not see his expression, yet the Dark Elf looked away and quickly said, "It’s nothing."
The other person also fell silent for a few seconds.
Felix did not like talking about himself, but he hesitated, wondering if saying nothing would make the other person unhappy.
Then he decided to make up something, as the Dark Elf was best at telling lies.
Just make up some sort of story, preferably something interesting.
Too bad, there are no interesting Dark Elves in the world.
Felix’s mind was in chaos; in the dark, his body’s senses were sharper than his thoughts.
The woman in front of him confirmed his direction, reached out her hands, and gently touched his face.
The warm body temperature of the human touched the cool skin of the Dark Elf.
The Dark Elf’s confused mind was completely blank.
Lin Lin’s earlier movement seemed to confirm the exact spot on his face, and then her two hands gently patted his cheek.
It was very light, like a butterfly brushing past his cheek.
"Hmm," the woman in the dark spoke, "This is your reward for helping me! A slap is too strange, but a gentle pat is alright!"
It wasn’t about pain or excitement; the simple understanding that the other person still remembered the wish for a reward made him feel truly happy.
Felix bowed his head, burying his face in the woman’s soft palms.
The Dark Elf’s cold skin also absorbed the warm temperature.
Felix pulled himself out of the confusion, and the Dark Elf found the answer.
First, Lin Lin was Lin Lin, then Lin Lin became human.
–
When something happens, don’t panic. Just stay calm and look for the time machine.
The magic in this world is already so strong; finding a time machine must be very easy.
"Aren’t you going in yet?" Felix asked.
Standing at the entrance of the Dragon Race’s nest, hesitant Lin Lin found it hard to take a step inside.
Lin Lin’s mind was filled with the image of Safir saying, "You’ll be in danger outside; don’t come back."
"I can’t shake the feeling that if I step into the dragon’s nest with my left foot or my right foot, I will be thrown into a 1200-degree hot spring." Lin Lin felt extremely nervous.
"A 1200-degree hot spring is actually lava," Felix reminded her, "don’t say foolish things like the Dragon Race."
What! Lin Lin was shocked.
She thought there really was a hot spring with a temperature of one thousand two hundred degrees! She even said that this world is truly a wonderful and colorful place. But was the hot spring Safir mentioned actually real lava?
That stuff really does kill germs! Because it is lava!
"Do you remember what Safir said to us back then?" Lin Lin asked Felix.
"Wasn’t it your phone that rang?" Felix replied.
Lin Lin: …
Ah, sorry, because the loud noise from the angry Dragon race at that time made her ears buzz, so she didn’t really hear what the other person was saying.
"Don’t worry," Felix comforted the still troubled Lin Lin, "he can’t really kill you; if he did, he would have to explain to the Demon King."
Lin Lin, "Thank you for your comforting words; I feel worse now."
In the end, Lin Lin told herself that Dragons need plenty of sleep, and maybe at that very moment, Safir was sleeping like a dead dragon.
Moving through the winding underground passage, Lin Lin could now recognize the main path by herself without the help of the Lizardfolk.
This time, Lin Lin certainly wouldn’t disturb Safir. She wondered if she could go find Donna to see if there was any space, just to squeeze in for the night.
However, when she and Felix reached the spacious center area of the Dragon race’s den, which could be called the "living room," Lin Lin quietly lowered her head.
Donna was indeed there, but at that moment, Safir, sitting expressionless on the leather sofa in his silk pajamas, drew more attention.
He hasn’t slept!
Not only has he not slept, but with that expression, it seems no one will be sleeping tonight!
When Donna saw Lin Lin, she cheerfully waved, "Lin! The master has been waiting for you for several days! He is really worried about you!"
Lin Lin felt that she really needed to face the music today.
The underground air was slightly cool; the black silk pajamas draped over the Dragon race’s snowy skin, and her deep blue hair was not tied back as usual. The sapphire earrings beside her ears swayed gently.
Today, he changed to a pair of earrings that were similar in color to his eyes.
After seeing Lin Lin’s figure, Dragon race’s brilliant eyes slowly flickered for a moment and then returned to a dull gaze.
Lin Lin swallowed and forced a smile, "Teacher, you’re not asleep yet."
"Don’t call me teacher," Dragon race replied softly, "I am not your teacher."
"Boss, you should go to sleep," Lin Lin said, rubbing her hands nervously.
"You are my boss," Safir said, raising his eyes, his long eyelashes hiding his feelings, "Looks like you had fun. Did you go to the God of Light’s headquarters? Why not go directly to the sanctuary? Don’t you want to?"
"We mainly aimed to sneak into the enemy camp, infiltrate their ranks, and uncover their weaknesses to defeat them from all sides!" Lin Lin declared confidently.
"During those days with the Paladin group, Felix and I were very anxious, always thinking about how to contribute to the Demon King Castle, constantly worrying that our hot spring project was still not built!"
Felix slowly shifted his gaze, feeling that Lin Lin could tell lies more smoothly than a Dark Elf.
"Oh?" Safir took the teacup from Donna’s hand, gently blowing on the steam rising from it. The light blue scales on his neck shimmered softly in the dim light. The Dragon race lowered his head and took a sip. "Please continue."
Damn it, why does it feel so nervous to present the paper in front of the teacher on the last day after having so much fun for an entire semester?
"Actually, we didn’t come back empty-handed," Lin Lin hinted at Felix with her eyes.
The Dark Elf expressionlessly took off the things that the knights had kindly packed for them before they left.
There was a small statue of the God of Light, some snacks for feeding birds, a little wooden sword for the knights to practice with, and… a particularly large item.
It was a folded and compressed demon-themed mattress that no one knew who had stuffed in there.
When all these things were poured out, the soft and comfortable mattress automatically unfolded and lay flat on the ground.
The proud Dragon race raised an eyebrow, looking at Lin Lin, expecting an explanation.
Lin Lin stared hard at the mattress, then looked up with a determined expression, fully believing in her lie, "Look! I even brought you a coaster for when your true form drinks tea!"
