Chapter 23: Always Using the Villain as a Trick
"He must not be talking about me."
After Norman said this, Lin Lin finally had to face the truth.
It must be talking about me.
After all, it would be too funny if the Dark Elf had ever believed in the God of Light. The elves who believed in the Light on the ground wouldn’t dare make such a joke.
Lin Lin looked seriously at the magician and realized that he did not seem like a person with a sense of humor.
"I’m sorry," Lin Lin said, "You sensed wrong. I am not the so-called traitor. I have never believed in the God of Light."
Even though Norman once praised Lin Lin for her boldness in speaking her mind, like when she said that accountants should tell the truth without fearing power.
But hearing a mage of the God of Light say they have never believed in the God of Light made Norman unsure whether to praise her for being true to herself.
Unlike the Paladins who have met many different races and beliefs, the mages in the sanctuary are a more closed-off profession; they spend most of their time training alone and help others when necessary to earn respect and admiration.
It could be said that, in the eyes of the mages, the teachings of the God of Light are even more noble than in reality.
"Daniel," Norman interrupted, trying to calm the mage’s anger, "her identity may be a bit complicated, and having different beliefs is quite normal."
The knight with the Eye of Truth wondered whether he should reveal her identity as a witch in front of Lin Lin; he wasn’t sure if her being a witch would make Daniel’s venom worse.
Lin Lin: ??? Did he say my identity is special?
This guy can’t know that I am a servant of the Demon King, right?
Lin Lin quietly took a step back and warily looked at Norman.
The dagger hidden in Felix’s palm revealed its sharp blade.
Ignoring Norman’s interruption, Daniel, who not only had the pure and beautiful appearance of the Holy Maiden but also upheld the noble beliefs of the God of Light, approached Lin Lin.
He reached out his palm towards Lin Lin without touching her, as if he could feel some presence through the air; he was trying to understand.
Lin Lin felt very guilty and asked in a rough voice, "What are you doing?"
Surely he isn’t trying to measure the color of a soul again! If everyone could use that skill, then the Dragon race’s nobility would lose its value. She would tell Safir about this.
He did not answer her. Daniel furrowed his brows slightly, as if he had sensed something he could not understand.
Lin Lin already felt guilty and was afraid that Daniel might really discover something. She asked Norman, "What is he doing? It seems so mysterious."
Norman shook his head, "They are always mysterious."
It seems that stereotypes are essential between every company and its departments.
Instead, it was Daniel who spoke first. He had interpreted some very strange information from Lin Lin, so much so that even his usual confidence couldn’t help him make a clear decision, "Angels? You have encountered angels before."
This was similar to a miracle, after all, angels are representatives of the God of Light, and they rarely show themselves to the world.
People often say that when they are lucky, they must be blessed by angels, because angels are what they can imagine, invisible yet gentle gifts.
Not everyone truly believes they can be lucky enough to be watched over by the divine. God is busy listening to prayers from all over the world; only true suffering and genuine faith can reach God’s ears.
In comparison, angels seem much friendlier. There are more of them than gods, and their appearance is not as solemn or serious. In some places, angels are imagined as cute little children.
Daniel is someone who has truly encountered angels, and he does not hold them in high regard; he met an angel while fighting monsters.
His lack of sight helped him not to judge the true nature of everything by appearances. A small feather from the angel’s wing fell on his arm, its icy coldness biting into him.
Compared to the so-called kind representatives of God in the human world, Daniel believed that this was an emotionless killing machine.
Angels are tools of God. They coldly follow orders.
After Daniel made this judgment, he still did not lose his respect for the God of Light. If mercy was all that mattered, how could the God of Light protect His believers?
Now, Daniel sensed a remarkable energy leftover from the angel in Lin Lin.
Even worse, the energy left on Lin Lin was not fresh, but it was still very clear.
This means that there was enough energy so that even if some was lost, it could still be seen clearly.
It felt like… Daniel did not want to make such a ridiculous judgment, but his mind jumped ahead with an answer.
This leftover energy was as if the woman in front of him had once been held closely by an angel.
This was a disrespect to the angel, a disrespect to the God of Light, and also a disrespect to women.
It was so absurd that Daniel could not help but shake his head, trying to erase this possibility from his mind, but his thoughts were too clear, with every memory carved in an indelible mark.
This was also why Daniel often rejected the requests of those simple-minded Paladins who seemed to think only about exercising and eating meat; their simple memories could be forgotten by the next day, while Daniel had to remember those boring things forever.
But why is the angel’s power gray? This is also why Daniel initially thought Lin Lin was a fallen being of light.
Great magicians often share similar personalities.
The will to endure hardships and the endless curiosity.
This time, Daniel reached out again to seek answers from Lin Lin, and he touched her wrist.
There was a blank space, and he did not sense any more information.
Soon, his fingers touched a cool, smooth bead, like a piece of jewelry? A bracelet? A stone?
Lin Lin did not know what the busy witch’s bracelet actually did.
And this effect was being unlocked by Daniel.
After Daniel touched the bracelet, a part of the pure white space glowed softly, shining with a gentle light.
It is a magical item that is very well disguised, used to hide the owner’s information.
The mage’s fingers explored beneath the bracelet, slender and pale fingers lifted the bracelet, touching the soft skin of a woman’s wrist.
It was as if he found a crack in a pure white world; with just a slight touch, deep and sticky black colors poured out from the crack.
Daniel wanted to understand that darkness.
"Daniel!" Before the Dark Elf’s knife could touch the neck of the noble mage, Norman stopped him, "You cannot treat a lady like this!"
The Paladin’s bright energy covered that small area of darkness, the crack vanished in the pure white space, leaving no trace behind.
"Excellent!" Daniel laughed in anger, "This is truly amazing; your lady possesses the power of darkness!"
"The race of darkness will always have dark powers!" Norman frowned, no longer hiding Lin Lin’s identity as a dark race, "The God of Light did not teach us to mistreat the women of the dark race."
"This has nothing to do with gender," Daniel spoke impatiently, his thin, frail body was no match for the Paladin; after being pushed away, he could only angrily wave his hands, "Her dark power was hidden! Who knows why she chose to hide it! Could she be some terrible monster lurking here? She might turn into a storm bear and swallow us all!"
Lin Lin whispered, "No way."
Norman stood in front of Lin Lin, blocking Daniel from getting close to her. The Knight Commander spoke calmly, "If that is the case, it is my responsibility to bring her into the knight group, and I should have been more careful."
Seeing Norman take the blame, Daniel was even angrier. Even though he couldn’t see Lin Lin, he pointed at her with his finger, "What if she is a strong helper of the Demon King? How much can you really take?"
Hey! You really have some skill!
Lin Lin felt choked up.
Lin Lin opened her eyes wide at Norman, her round eyes filled with tears.
Norman comforted her, "Don’t take it to heart; he is just saying that out of anger."
But what he said wasn’t just anger; it was the truth.
"I didn’t come here to argue with you," Norman said, shielding Lin Lin completely with his body. "You need to help me find out where this photo comes from."
"Indeed, there is nothing more important in the world than a photograph. What does darkness even matter?" Though still sounding sarcastic, Daniel took Norman’s photo.
He casually pinched it and threw the photo back into Norman’s arms, "I am not interested in playing along with your self-directed experiment."
"What?" Norman asked, confused, "What do you mean by self-directed?"
Knowing Norman would not lie, Daniel calmed his anger and said in a strange tone, "The information left in this photo only belongs to the Knights. If you want me to be more clear, I believe this photo has been in your knights’ hands for three years. Of course, it would be too troublesome to identify which one, but it wouldn’t be impossible with enough time."
Norman already had the answer in his mind; he pressed the vein on his forehead, "Thank you for your cooperation. I think I know who it is now."
Norman turned and walked away.
Unlike Norman’s focus, Lin Lin noticed that Daniel’s body was really weak while Norman and Daniel faced each other.
How infuriating, he almost revealed her information just now.
Now fully embodying the villain of Demon King Castle, Lin Lin looked at the Dark Elf, who raised an eyebrow slightly at her.
"Yay!" Lin Lin quickly jumped in front of Daniel and pushed him hard. The light and thin wizard was easily knocked down against the wall, bumping the back of his head!
The wizard gritted his teeth and let out a hiss, his light-colored lips turning a beautiful red from biting them, "Barbarian!"
Three words slipped from his tightly clenched lips.
It was clear that Daniel was indeed someone who could hardly feel pain.
As Daniel raised his hand to cast a light spell on Lin Lin, the quick Dark Elf had already scooped her up and was running away like lightning.
Lin Lin gave Felix a big thumbs-up for his perfect teamwork.
She instructed Felix to take her to Joseph’s place; she simply couldn’t wait to see the excitement!
Just like Norman, when Lin Lin learned that this photo had long belonged to a member of the Knight Order, Joseph’s name popped into her head.
According to Bob, after being pressured by Joseph for a long time, he actually developed a rebellious mindset. In other words, Bob no longer cooperated in the same way, and then the beautiful but broke Alice appeared.
It really feels like someone is forcefully pulling at a bald spot.
As soon as Lin Lin got near Joseph’s bedroom, she heard loud noises of things being tossed around.
Norman stood calmly at the door while several young knights were rummaging through the room.
When Lin Lin entered, she saw a pile of letters on the table, all in pink envelopes shaped like hearts.
Bob has written quite a few love letters; Lin Lin wondered if she should tell him the truth.
"What does it matter if you have all this?" Joseph shouted angrily, with his hands tied. "Where’s the proof? The proof that I took or spent money? Where’s the money?"
Wow, he’s quite tough.
Following the searching team, Lin Lin noticed the soft curve of Joseph’s bed.
For some reason, Lin Lin found this curve very familiar, much like the mattress in Demon King Castle.
She once asked the Demon King to cast a spell that made the bed very soft and suggested he quickly create beds and mattresses under the "Demon King Castle" brand.
Lin Lin quietly lifted the blue bedsheet and saw the black mattress underneath.
Lin Lin: …
Lin Lin lifted a corner of the mattress and saw an embroidered design of a demon face, with the words "Demon King Castle" underneath.
Your Majesty the Demon King, your business has reached the knight’s order!
What an ordinary little business genius!
Lin Lin’s trance caught the attention of a young knight nearby, who also saw the words "Demon King Castle."
Lin Lin: … What if it is believed that the Demon King Castle is connected to this incident? Isn’t this a diplomatic issue? Do I need to clarify?
"Well," the young knight spoke up.
Lin Lin felt very tense, "Even though it says Demon King Castle, but…"
The young knight said, "This is so expensive!"
Lin Lin’s desire to explain faded away.
Another knight leaned over, "This is a mattress from Demon King Castle! This is proof! It would take me half a year’s salary to afford this!"
The first little knight eagerly started to unwrap the bed sheet, "If no one else uses this, can I have it? Just as I thought! The blanket is also from Demon King Castle! Wow! So luxurious!"
Lin Lin: …
Does no one care about the words "Demon King Castle"? Is everyone only concerned about the price and softness?
She felt so helpless, like an honest person who wanted to explain but couldn’t find the words.
Is this how the world is?
"Oh," the Knight Commander, who was obviously standing at the door, had also heard about this brand, "it’s quite comfortable, but the brand name is a bit unlucky. I really don’t understand today’s youth; they always use villains for attention."
It’s not for attention!
