Chapter 224: What Is a Dragon Like?
After calling Safir "teacher," Lin Lin immediately regretted it.
Not only because Safir had previously forbidden her from using that title, but also because the word "teacher" clearly misled Norman.
He must have wanted to show politeness in front of Safir, so after Lin Lin quickly pulled her hand back, Norman showed a gentle smile and said, "Hello, teacher."
He is not good! Lin Lin screamed in her heart.
When Norman smiled, Safir’s expression noticeably grew darker.
Safir completely ignored Norman, as if there was no person standing there. He waved to Lin Lin, "Come here."
Lin Lin did not walk up to Safir; she remained behind Norman.
"Can it be tomorrow?" Lin Lin raised her voice, waving at Safir to avoid the dragon misunderstanding, "I still need to say goodbye to others."
She did not sound like she was asking; it seemed she had already made a decision.
Safir’s eyebrows furrowed even more.
"Don’t waste my patience," Safir’s patience was nearly at its limit, "not to mention why you are with the Paladins, do you want me to tie you up and take you back?"
This is bad, Lin Lin thought.
Sure enough, the Norman standing in front of her spoke up, "If you have that intention, I will stop you."
Although he could not defeat the guy in front of him, there were still some ways to escape with Lin Lin.
"No," Lin Lin said, placing her hand on Norman’s shoulder, "please don’t, I advise you not to."
Doing such a risky thing would only anger Safir; Lin Lin had already witnessed Safir flying across the sky of San Marco City once, and she did not want to have a heart attack again.
"Are you going to obey his orders?" Norman frowned, "I don’t know how you’ve lived in such a situation before."
"What situation?" Safir asked calmly.
He no longer treated Norman as if he were invisible. Lin Lin felt overwhelmed.
"I’m doing just fine," Lin Lin answered Norman, "Safir just looks serious; he is a good person."
When Lin Lin said this, she did not dare to look at Safir’s expression. She hoped Norman wasn’t looking either.
"He is a dragon," Norman said, "I know what dragons are like."
Oh, Norman has the "Eye of Truth"; he can see through simple disguises.
"What are dragons like?" Safir asked in a casual tone.
"Dragons are wonderful! Dragons are amazing!" Lin Lin spoke before Norman could, then gave Norman’s arm a hard tug, signaling him not to say anything more.
Norman pressed his lips together; the Holy Knight Commander did not want to cause trouble for Lin Lin, and he was very impressed by this dragon.
Last time, it was this Sapphire Dragon that took Lin Lin away; in a way, Norman could guess that this dragon, known as a teacher, cared a lot about Lin Lin.
Otherwise, an arrogant creature like a dragon would never come looking for her.
From the Sapphire Dragon’s point of view, being nice to Lin Lin was already a gift; not every creature has such a privilege, although that did not change its arrogance in speech.
"You should go back to the city," Lin Lin whispered in Norman’s ear, "I won’t leave tonight. If the monster riot is connected to them, I can handle it."
Norman caught some hints from Lin Lin’s words; she had a higher status in Dark Camp than he had imagined.
Paladin gently shook his head, reaching out to stroke Lin Lin’s cheek, urging her to look up at him, "We can handle these little things ourselves."
He appeared warm and calm, showing natural kindness, "The most important thing is your choice; you need to take care of yourself."
This is the tenderness that humans, as social beings, express well.
Lin Lin didn’t need to look back; she could already feel the sudden chill in the air behind her.
"Of course," Lin Lin quickly assured, "I am very good at protecting myself."
After she finished speaking, both the Knight Commander and the Sapphire Dragon fell silent.
Norman slightly tilted his head; under the cool moonlight, the young human and the Dragon race shared a brief glance, and he saw those deep blue eyes.
The Knight Commander didn’t really want to leave; this dragon looked very upset.
However, Lin Lin nudged him again, urging him to go, and he had to grip his sword tightly as he left.
After Norman left, Lin Lin sighed with relief.
"Lord Safir," Lin Lin approached Safir, "What brings you here?"
Lin Lin knew that this question would invite Safir’s teasing, but being teased was better than staying silent.
Sure enough, after Lin Lin asked this question, Safir narrowed his eyes.
"What do you guess?" Safir asked, "Just took a walk and ended up here. A coincidence."
"Uh," Lin Lin blinked, "The Demon King mentioned you would come to the sanctuary to look for time-related spells, so I thought you would be there."
Safir’s sapphire-like eyes stared at Lin Lin, then he spoke, "Have you contacted the Demon King?"
"It’s a bit complicated to explain," Lin Lin had to pick the main points and simply tell about her experiences from two hundred years ago.
She left out the part about the Demon King trapping her in a certain time and space.
"It was the God of Light who brought me back to this time and space," Lin Lin said. "I miss you all so much, but I am also very grateful to them and want to do something for them."
Safir’s gaze fell on Lin Lin’s neck, where there was no bandage. The skin on her neck was smooth and white, with no patterns at all.
Maybe she used some makeup, after all, she needed to stay in the sanctuary.
"I did find some time spells," Safir said slowly, still keeping his cold attitude, "but clearly, compared to the spells of the gods, those are nothing."
"When I was about to go back, the Demon King contacted me. He thought you should have returned to this world, but you didn’t come back to the Demon King Castle, which worried him a lot."
"The Demon King’s unease spread throughout the entire demon realm, and many creatures were affected by him."
"Just imagining the Demon King’s current situation makes me know I shouldn’t go back; he is too noisy."
"You should go back to the Demon King Castle as soon as you return to this time. You know how annoying that guy is, and it causes me a lot of trouble."
"Do you, don’t you have a nest?" Lin Lin asked carefully.
She did not mean to interrupt Safir, but Lin Lin remembered that the previous Demon King always caused a big fuss. Although Safir looked unhappy, he also had ways to handle it.
"Your Majesty the Demon King cannot leave Demon King Castle. You just need to cut the phone line as usual," Lin Lin’s mind was suddenly bright.
But Safir’s expression still looked very displeased; he seemed unhappy with Lin Lin’s sudden display of cleverness.
"It’s all because of the uselessness of the Demon King," Safir vented his anger on the demon race, "Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to go out to find his… contract partner."
Lin Lin guessed that Safir originally wanted to say something harsher like "all belongings," but he held it back.
It was truly touching growth.
However, Lin Lin still needed to correct him; she had very few chances to correct Safir, so she cherished every opportunity.
"The contract has been canceled," Lin Lin thought the Dragon race did not see her smooth neck, so she flipped her hair to make it clearer for them to see, "I no longer have a contract with the Demon King."
Safir’s gaze fell on Lin Lin’s neck.
Lin Lin noticed that he paused for a moment.
The young man still stood tall; even though he was in darkness, he had a kind of dignity that no mud could stain.
Lin Lin felt that she could not fully trust Safir’s words. For example, Safir had said that dragons had excellent vision and could easily see details that she herself had not noticed.
But now, after a moment of silence in the face of such a clear change, Safir quietly confirmed with her.
"Is it true?"
–
Saying goodbye is a troublesome thing, but luckily, there aren’t many people Lin Lin needs to deal with.
Lenidien openly expressed his confusion about Lin Lin’s choice.
Lin Lin even felt a bit envious of Battle Angel’s straightforwardness; he truly did not overthink things and handed all complicated problems to others.
"How should I say this?" Lin Lin blinked, "Humans are creatures with complicated thoughts."
Compared to Lenidien, Norman was much easier to deal with.
Thanks to the gentle care of the Knight Commander, Lin Lin did not feel uncomfortable; he even prepared a small gift for her.
"What is this?" Lin Lin looked at the key in her palm.
"I have a property near the demon realm," Norman said, "You can go there to rest."
Lin Lin’s head was buzzing; she felt she didn’t rob Norman mainly because of her kindness and his strength.
"No, thank you." Lin Lin firmly refused.
"Sharon might go out later," Norman whispered, "I hope that if she gets close to the demon realm, you can help take care of her and find a place to rest."
Because the other person’s attitude was so sincere and righteous, Lin Lin found it hard to refuse again.
"I will do my best," Lin Lin said softly, feeling that she had received an important task.
Finally, it was time to say goodbye to the sanctuary.
Although Lin Lin had wandered around the sanctuary for many days without being stopped, it was clear that all of this was allowed by the great Bishop.
When Lin Lin told the great Bishop she was leaving, the old man, who was still coughing very badly, just waved his hand.
"What can I do?" the great Bishop asked, "If I stop you, you won’t be happy and you might secretly tell the God of Light on me and get me taken away."
Lin Lin promised, "I have never done such a thing."
The great Bishop said, "Then you are still a kind child, but Sharon’s complaint letter is already three feet high."
Norman! Take care of your sister! I feel like she doesn’t need anyone to look after her!
Lin Lin saw the statue of the God of Light once again.
Looking up, she could see the golden sunlight naturally falling on the pure white statue.
Lin Lin closed her eyes and prayed quietly.
She said goodbye to the gods and promised to pay back the two months she owed later.
And although she did not report the big Bishop’s actions to stop people, she did report other matters.
[The overtime situation at the sanctuary is too serious; please save the workers and save the accountants.]
